โข Go beyond the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to discover the quirky culture of The City of Angels โข Part of the international 111 Places/111 Shops series with over 150 titles and 1 million copies in print worldwide "In Los Angeles, everyone is a star." - Denzel Washington Adventures beckon! For more than a century, seekers of sun and celebrity from around the world have flocked to this sprawling metropolis on the Pacific, which Dorothy Parker once described as "72 suburbs in search of a city." But beyond the red-carpet reputation and Tinseltown trappings is a west coast wonderland teeming with unexpected cultural experiences, iconic architecture, gorgeous open spaces, quirky museums, hidden vistas, unconventional art, and obscure stories about the starlets, moguls, personalities, and players who have made Los Angeles their playground. This unusual guidebook explores 111 of the city's most interesting and unknown places and experiences: wander a serpentine path in a spiritual quest of your own making; channel your inner cowboy at a tried and true honky tonk bar; pay homage to the Dude at the bungalow where the big Lebowski lived; turn your car tires into musical instruments on the country's only musical road; sleep with the ghosts of Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin; view a constellation of stars more vivid than anything Hollywood has to offer. From the San Gabriel Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, Angelenos and visitors will fall in love with the real Los Angeles. Surprises await. Just imagine how much more scintillating your dinner-party storytelling will be. Review: This book took me on a sweet journey through many unique - I visit LA frequently for business. This book took me on a sweet journey through many unique, unexpected and delightful cultural and historical places that I wouldn't have thought to have explored. My local friends weren't aware of many of the places showcased in the book. One of my favorite new haunts is the little chocolate shop in Beverly Hills that Lucille Ball featured in I Love Lucy. This book is a simple and inexpensive guide to the goodness of LA. Review: Not the Obvious Tourist Traps - I've lived in LA for 32 years and fancy myself well-versed in its many mysteries. This guidebook captures most of the ones I like to share and turned me onto many that were completely unfamiliar - no small feat. Kudos to the authors and to a city of unheralded depth, humor and beauty.

Worth the read of going to LA
Read the entire book in two days. Dog-eared the places we want to visit. Super for day trips and a new adventure. I wish they would write more of these for different destinations. Found the book first at Urban Outfitters, then snagged it off Amazon for way cheaper - ordered it while standing right there in Urban Outfitters in Pacific Beach. Lol!

A great read, a perfect hostess gift or stocking stuffer
This skillfully-written, charming book reveals many well-kept secrets in our unique city. Despite living here for over nine years and being married to a location scout, the gems in here are new to me and have me inspired to explore. A great read, a perfect hostess gift or stocking stuffer!

Good and bad
111 Places in Los Angeles That You Must Not Miss (111 Places in .... That You Must Not Miss) is both a good guide and a bad guide. The Good part is that these are mostly fairly unique, not on every list. Sure, there are a few, like Clifton's Cafeteria, but by and large, most of these are different and unusual. The Bad- too much stuff like "the place where they filmed The Big Lebowski" - where there really isn't anything to see, and encouraging tourists to bother the people who live there is just wrong.

Cool - new ideas even if you lived here forever
My husband and I are working our way through these sites. The majority of them are free to visit. I noticed a version of this book for several cities; ours is Los Angeles. We've been here approximately 20+ years and still not visited the majority of the places in the book. A fun date idea is to visit one to two pages per month; don't bemoan not being able to travel when your hometown has so many undiscovered treasures to find together!

Great!
As a Los Angeles native I feel like I already know a lot. However, this book showed me places that I've never even heard about and I hope to check them out soon. Also, the preview is nothing like the actual book. The actual book is formatted well.

NOT A REAL TRAVEL GUIDE TO LA
I was supremely disappointed by this book - it didn't contain ANY of the important or popular sights in LA. This is NOT a book for someone who wants to see LA or get to know LA because all it contains are obscure sights, most of which can be fully appreciated in a minute or less. Like the front side of a house that was photographed for the Brady Bunch television show fifty years ago. It is really worth a half hour or hour drive just to see the front of a pretty normal house? When all you can do is look at it from the front curb? The title of the book is completely misleading. Instead of calling this 111 Places in Los Angeles That You Must Not Miss, it should have been called 111 Ways to Waste Your Time If You Have Already Seen Everything that is Culturally or Historically Important in LA. It is NOT a book for tourists. I just ordered a real travel book about LA.
