Is the rack large enough to hold a shoe box? I had the plastic version and it would hold boxes.

It would be tough it isn’t very deep. I have small feet size 6.5 and some of my chunky shoes fall out when I move the door. If you put the boxes in sideways it might work.

Can you install this directly to the door without using the over the door pieces?

Possibly, you'd need some Cafe rod brackets to hold it up by the 1st rod...not sure how sturdy this would be though. You could cut off the part of the over the door brackets that go over the door, there are screw holes on the part that attaches to the shelves that you could screw into your door.

How much space In between each shelf?

Not much and it is very hard to load the shoes on

Will the over the door hooks work for a front door ? (A thicker width)
