Metallica is back with their first album in almost a decade! With James Hetfield at the helm, Metallica went from being thrash pioneers to heavy metal gods. He overcame adolescent upheaval and personal demons—including his parents’ divorce, his mother’s untimely death and severe alcoholism—to become metal’s biggest star. So Let It Be Written does justice to the many hats Hetfield has worn, with his strong leadership, signature vocal style, powerful guitar-playing and masterful songwriting. Author Mark Eglinton uses exclusive, firsthand interviews—with prominent rock stars and key figures in Hetfield’s life—to construct the definitive account of Hetfield. Hopefully this book will rekindle certain special memories about one of metal’s most charismatic and important individuals.” —Chuck Billy of Testament Mark Eglinton is the co-writer of Official Truth, 101 Proof by Pantera’s Rex Brown and Confessions of a Heretic by Behemoth’s Adam Nergal Darski. I grew up on his music and love Metallica. It was fun to read about his journey so far and his success. I still love their music and I truly hope James will go out on his own someday and be just as successful with country music as he was with thrash and heavy metal. He seems to be doing his best as a spouse, father, friend and christian gentleman. He also has gracefully aged and handled all the things life throws at you quite well. You go James!! Review: A gift well given - I got this book as a gift for my hubby, who is a huge Metallica fan. He thoroughly enjoyed it; said it was well-written and had lots of info. He would definitely recommend for a fan.

Four Stars
It was a fast, enjoyable read, but not as much depth as I was hoping for

Nothing new, nothing groundbreaking. A good Metallica intro for the newer fan.
I've read quite a few books on Metallica over the years and found this to be the most lacking; especially with it being positioned as a biography of James Hetfield. Much of the information presented has been told in much more informative and detailed explanations by Joel McIver and Mick Wall. This volume should almost be considered the "starter" book for newer fans of Metallica or a good introductory for those that haven't read any other Metallica books. The first few chapters tell a bit about James' childhood and moving around SoCal but that would really be the extent of a biography as many chapters focus more around the band, individual members of the band, the death of Cliff, the hazing of Jason, the departure of Jason and James' rehab, the introduction of Robert and the band and James making amends with former friends and colleagues. Nothing new or groundbreaking in my opinion.

Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down! The author almost made me believe I was there hanging out the band while all this was happening!

Borning
Meh, Pretty boring book. There are better books out there that are less boring. Look for another James book

Brilliant
I'm a Metallica freak, so you could write any old rubbish, and sadly I'd probably buy it. However this book is good, and it is one to own

Don't waste your time and money
This is not a good book. James is the reason I got serious about guitar back in the late 80s. I was hoping this book would offer some real insight into James' upbringing, his influences, and his life in general. What you get is a book about Metallica, with a few extra lines about James thrown in. I feel that a biography is supposed to really delve into it's subject. This one barely scratches the surface. For example, shouldn't a biography look at all aspects of the subject's life? This one inexplicably leaves all of that out. Everything written about his relationships, marriage, kids, etc; all could be condensed into one page, maybe two. This book is sad. If you have ever read anything about Metallica before, this book will offer nothing new. You would be better served to go find and read: Back To The Front by Matt Taylor, Metallica: Enter Night by Mick Wall, So What! The Good, The Mad, & The Ugly by Steffan Chirazi. Those three books will give you a much bigger and better insight into James and Metallica.
