Superstar writer Mark Waid's run on THE FLASH is now re-collected in a new series of graphic novels, continuing in THE FLASH BY MARK WAID BOOK TWO! Once Wally West was just Kid Flash, sidekick to his mentor and friend the Flash, a.k.a. Barry Allen. The death of Barry left Wally the fastest man alive--and the new Flash. Now, somehow, Barry has returned--as a violent and paranoid speedster determined to eliminate what he's created! Is Barry really back? THE FLASH BY MARK WAID BOOK TWO looks back at Wally's earliest days as the Kid Flash and explores the gamut of his emotions and experiences from his first day as a child hero to his succession of Barry Allen as the new Flash. A journey full of humor and drama, this story shows just how much Wally West loves being the fastest man alive. Collects GREEN LANTERN #30-31 & 40, THE FLASH #69-79, THE FLASH ANNUAL #6, JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL QUARTERLY #10. Review: Greatest Era of Flash Comics, and Includes the Greatest Flash Story Ever: The Return of Barry Allen - The Mark Waid books so far have been interesting, because they are very complete, so you get some seemingly rando stories and crossovers and whatnot. But they're all great, and from a great era of comics in general (I collected all these issues when they originally came out, but like to re-read in digital format). This one is a stand out however, because it includes the complete Return of Barry Allen storyline, which is probably, for my money, the best Flash story ever told. Review: Fast Read - What a great improvement over the first Waid volume. I loved it. Coming off a read through of Geoff Johns Green Lantern this was the perfect change of pace. Given Hal Jordan's inclusion in this volume it was a great segue way. If I knew nothing about Wally West as the Flash this would be a great starting point. Hopefully these keep improving. I heard Waid's run on The Flash was classic and I am starting to see why.

Second time the charm
The first collection was disjointed at best, but Waid finally comes into his own. And while Gerard Jones's crossover issues and lame annuals still plague this run, Waid's main story this time is simply sublime. This is Waid finally running full-speed, and he will only get better.

Worth reading
I think this was an excellent book to read, If you like to know more about the older flashes or charcters like Max Mercury and Johnny Quick, this would be something you should read. It starts with a Green Lantern crossover story which is pretty interesting especially with how they right the story and you learn more about gorilla city.

A lot of Flashes in one book!
Mark Waid did a lot with the Flash, but this collection will probably best be remembered for the "Return of Barry Allen" storyline. This was well after the Crisis on Infinite Earths, and the sudden return of Barry gave Wally's story a happy ending at last...or so it seemed. The truth about this Barry Allen gave the series its best story to date, and pushed Wally to his limits. I won't give away the ending to it, but definitely don't miss this collection. It's a little weird though, as they break up the continuity of the story to throw in a Flash Annual "Bloodlines" issue that introduces a new character (as all the "Bloodlines" stories did in all the other comic titles), and then takes us to the resolution of the Barry Allen story. The collection also includes several great appearances by Jay Garrick and Max Mercury, along with a few other familiar faces early on. But the beauty of this collection is the final few issues, where Wally faces one of the greatest Flash villains of all time long before they diluted him and overused him in later series. Looking forward to the next volume.

Amazing
This collection encapsulates the rise of Wally West perfectly. Not only that, but if you look at the legacy and future runs of Wally west, the pure fan demand to have him back and everything that has followed. They succeded in their goal of making Wally West match and succeed Barry's legacy.

A must read for any fan of Wally West
With the return of Barry Allen storyline Mark Waid achieved what seemed impossible he made people accept that Wally West was deserving of replacing Barry and that he is the Flash and he's here to stay. Even if we leave aside that fact it's a fantastic read with surprising twists and turns, appearances from just about every active speedster at the time(and I'm always happy to see my favourite Flash Jay Garrick) and it even manages to fit in some character development. Mark Waid is one of the best writers in comics pick up this and volume one and see how his career began.
