Nice firepit for the price
This is a very nice firepit for the price. We looked at a few others that were over double the price, but were not sure how much we would really use it so were unwilling to spend a huge amount of money on it. This one looks good, and works quite well. Its also a nice size table for sitting around. The slate tile is pretty much like in the photos, with brownish colored slate. The frame is a very dark bronze color, almost, but not quite black. The firepit is delivered by truck freight, in a single 170 lb box. We had to arrange delivery times with the freight company, but they were nice enough to deliver it into our back yard for us. The unit is very well packed, with multiple separate boxes inside, and foam padding where appropriate. Expect to recycle a lot of cardboard and foam! The boxes are labeled by part number. The firepit is mostly made from stamped steel sheet metal. The instructions are pretty good, but you need to be careful to assemble the side walls so that they are oriented properly on the top. The top is a bit different on the edge where the doors are, and this is not super clear in the instructions. As with anything made from sheet metal, it can be a bit challenging to get all the holes to line up! It helps to have 2 people, and you do need a bit of dexterity to reach around pieces as you are assembling it. They say it should take an hour, but expect it to be somewhat longer. Two tricks that helped: 1) when assembling 2 parts with screws, do not tighten any screws until you have all of them started and 2) when the holes didn't want to line up exactly, I used an allen wrench that would fit into the holes to pry them into alignment, then clamped the parts together with a small C clamp while I got the screw started. There were only a few screws that were hard to do. I do like how the gas tank is easily accessible on its slide out tray, but its also pretty well hidden if you use the supplied cover over the tank. The electric start and control valve are easy to reach behind the other door, and both work well. The gas valve is the type like on a water heater where you have to hold it in for a few seconds while the fire heats up. This is a nice safety feature because it will shut off the gas flow if the fire blows out in wind. Of course, one of the nice things about gas is that when you are done with it, you can turn off the valve, and its off. No worrying about hot embers burning for the next few hours. The firepit, without the gas cylinder is about 150 pounds. It is pretty easy for two people to lift up and move around, aside from the weight. The unit is steel, and while it is well painted, I think that eventually it will rust. That is not a big problem where I live, but I think it could be a big issue if you are near the ocean. The only real complaint was that Amazon suggested a "add both to cart" type bundle with a cover, but the suggested cover turned out to be too small to fit.

More than I ever imagined.
i got one of these in 2012 in California. it was a little time-consuming to put together, and seemed a little flimsy while doing so. However all that melted away (pun intended) when I set it upright and turned on the gas. What an amazing outdoor table and fire. Its beautiful, very sturdy, very warm and completely relaxing. We spent many nights in California using this - till we moved and left the very heavy item at our house. Now we just bought our second one. Exactly the same item. We are in fall in North Carolina and the exact same ambiance, beauty and relaxation. Every advertised word about htis is true - maybe even understated. Turn it on and it takes a little while to heat the "area" - but within 15 minutes everyone around the huge table is comfy and cozy. We have had very comfortably 8 chairs around this - and even squeezed in 10. Roasting marshmallows is fun and a must. Dont leave your wine on the table if you don't want it warm - put your feet there instead. Since coming to thanksgiving and sitting around this 3 nights with us, i have 2 brothers, a brother in law and a son who are all going to purchase the same. What a bargain! you will love this and wish for cold weather more through the year.

Fulfills all of our needs!
The fire pit is gorgeous, we ate hot dogs and s'mores on it the first night we had it! It threw a high flame and had a good amount of heat. No need for wood, instant-on, no campfire smell on your clothes - there is nothing better or more convenient! The quality is better than expected. Really pretty slate top, but my base looked more black vs the picture, Assembly instructions are awful - no guidance or help pointing out there is a front to the slate top and fire bowl. Thanks to everyone for the tips that aren't covered in the instructions. A cordless drill is a must! It sped up the process and helped to get the metal pieces together more easily. Definitely a 2 person job I am a petite woman and needed the help of my 12 yr old son to stabilize the pieces while attaching the screws. Some things to note: The first picture in the instructions is the slate top, there is a front to the fire bowl, I figured that out too late and had to take it apart and turn it, the metal tank guard has to screw into 2 places which will help you line it up. Leave the slate top upside down in the box after you attach the fire bowl. It kept it protected - I cut the sides of the box off when it was time to flip it over. Make sure you pay close attention to the types of corner pieces. They are critical when you attach the base. Attaching the base was the most difficult part and took some hammering to get the holes to line up. I crammed one of the long skinny boxes between the top and base to hold the base up and in place while attaching the screws.. To make sure you get maximum flame height back off the attachment to the tank to release the pressure then screw it back down. I've had to do this on my grill as well. I hope this helps and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do.

Great Value But MUCH Better After Changing Burner And Adding Fire Glass
I won't go into detail about all the pros of this fire pit table since there are literally hundreds of reviews already giving you that info. This review is to show you that it's possible to turn a decent flame into an awesome fire that's actually capable of producing heat on a cold night. The video also shows you how to improve the flame should you choose to keep the existing equipment. You do need to be a little handy in order to do this but it's very doable. This is a great fire table, especially considering the price. The fire element, however, left much to be desired, for me personally. The air mixture is not properly set from the factory which results in TONS of soot and black smoke. The flame itself also doesn't give much heat since it doesn't get all that large. What I did was completely redo the burner system and bypass the included burner system. Please watch the video if you'd like to get an idea of how to do this and please feel free to ask any questions. I'll get back to you within a day at most. Parts used: bbq factory® Stainless Steel Fire Pit Burner Ring, 12-Inch dia, SS #304 Dreffco 150,000 BTU LP Air Mixture Valve for Liquid Propane Fire Pits Gas One High Pressure Propane 0-20 PSI Adjustable Regulator with Hose - Works with newer U.S. propane tanks You will also need: Yellow gas tape, adapter for regulator to piping, and 20-50lbs of fire glass. 20 lbs should do you fine if you use the meshing. You'll need around 50 lbs if you want to fill up the entire bowl. My system is built with 1/2" piping. Check out your local hardware store to get an adapter for the regulator to connect with the piping. Fire glass can be purchased at a multitude of retailers. Edit 1: I noticed the noise in the video when the flame is turned up high was due to the fact that one of my connections did not have enough thread tape and was leaking under high pressure. I thought it was another noise that I've heard periodically with usage. Definitely make sure your connections are tight with sufficient tape in order to prevent leaking. Edit 2: I made another video for those wondering exactly how I did this. Just google "Blue Rhino GAD860SP LP Fire Pit Table Fire Glass Conversion" and it should be the first link you see. You can also search it in YT.

Good value, only so-so quality (updated August 2013)
Overall this fire table is a great value -- when you look around, similar products are $1000-$3000. It's easy to light, produces an attractive fire and even gives off a bit of warmth once the logs & lava rocks warm up. Plusses: table top is large and attractively tiled; you could easily eat a casual meal around this table. Slide out gas tank drawer is more usable than I'd expected -- it's not flimsy or hard to use (it was part of the pre-assembled base unit). Room for improvement: Because the finished item is heavy (over 150 pounds), they should have included casters instead of feet. The mesh panels are attractive, but the mesh is large and coarse and see-through; a denser mesh or even solid panels would be more attractive. The front gas drawer and controls are behind doors; doors on the opposite side would be nice, as there is a lot of empty space inside that could be used for storing accessories. Minuses: Tedious assembly of about a dozen stamped sheet metal parts using cheap, soft fasteners in sometimes awkward locations. At the latter stages of assembly there were 3-4 locations where had no choice but to cross-thread the screws into place using a screw gun because they were far out of alignment and there was no way to align the parts. Despite this, the finished product is surprisingly sturdy for being a bunch of sheet metal screwed together. Update August 2013: Electronic ignition failed in the first year we owned it. We just use an Aim-n-flame type lighter. Gas regulator failed (according to another manufacturer web site, Chant AZF regulators had a defective parts run, mine has the defective run datecode) and is on backorder. Relatively worthless as a heat source, the included logs & lava rocks get hot but not hot enough to do more than melt the ice in your drinks in the summer, for looks I'd rather just have glass. Will not keep you comfy in any cold weather.

Beautiful product! Will need a new cover, though….
After reading the various reviews, in which reviewers either loved or hated this fire pit, I bit the bullet and ordered it. It was amazingly packaged -- everything was perfectly protected. It went together fairly quickly, but, as other reviewers noted, you need to be careful to study the pictures to make sure you have the right part going in the right place and in the right direction. I was working on my own, and it took me around 3.5 hours. Would have gone quicker if I had a helper. Also, take note of the warnings to hand tighten the screws until you have a section together, and then go back and fully tighten. Out of the many screw holes on this, there were only three which did not line up correctly, which I consider pretty darn good for a product of this complexity and price.... Once you have it together, you are going to be quite pleased with it! I thought I would want to replace the lava and logs with fire glass, but the effect 'as-is' is great! The propane tank rides on drawer glides, and so is quite easy to get in and out (this may have been a design change, as other reviewers said the tank was hard to get in.. The igniter works flawlessly. The one criticism is the cover is pretty light. You need to take care when putting it on, and I expect that I will need to replace it soon. However, there is room to store it inside the fire pit while you are using it, which I think is a plus. Overall, a great value for the price!

Nice fire pit. Extremely poor customer care, missing parts and cracked logs!!!!!!!!
We purchased this unit because of the great reviews. When our unit arrived it came with the wrong nuts and bolts package to put it together. I called the manufacture who placed a work ticket for the wrong hardware provided. I explained to them that we needed the hardware ASAP as we had a family get together scheduled for the next week. They said that the hardware was backordered but would get it to us ASAP. I went ahead and purchased the hardware at my local Ace hardware store and boy am I glad I did as we have NEVER HEARD FROM THE COMPANY AGAIN!!!!!! The unit looks really nice but has another catastrophic problem detailed in other posts. The air mixture of the unit is set so rich that the unit soots up and then pieces of black soot break off in the wind and land on our deck creating dirty soot stains which do not wipe off. They just smudge and make a mess. I was able to adjust this air mixture by purchasing some additional parts and the flame now burns bright and clear of black soot. If you are not a handy man I would not recommend this unit for your purchase you will not be satisfied. PS I told the manufacture representative that I spoke with that I would not be happy if my hardware did not arrive in a timely manner and I would be posting this one star review. (If I could have I would have posted a NO stare review). Obviously it makes no difference to this company how unhappy I am as I have never received my hardware or any other response. One more thing. There artificial logs that came with the unit are already cracking. The main log is broken off in 2 pieces. It really is 2 bad that this company cares so little for its customers. By providing my missing hardware promptly, replacing the cracked log and adjusting the air flow mixture this unit would have received a 5 star review for function and customer service. BEWARE DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!

Very Challenging to Assemble
I'm giving this product two stars because of difficulty with assembly. The instructions provided are completely mystifying. I consider myself a reasonable assembler. Give me an Ikea product and I'm totally fine. But I'm also the kind of person who owns exactly one power tool - an electric screwdriver. I rely on the manufacturer to provide a product with reasonably clear instructions and that comes together reasonably seamlessly with simple tools. This is definitely not that product. The only way I got it assembled at all was by finding a Youtube video with instructions. The Youtube video, done by someone clearly very good at this kind of thing, was half an hour long, and that didn't even include the bulk of the assembly. It took me approximately two hours. Apart from terrible instructions, the pieces didn't line up well. I would move along reasonably well for awhile, and then hit yet another spot where a screw hole wasn't quite lining up or wasn't quite big enough. Also, because of the design, it is very unwieldy accessing the screw holes (and there are dozens of them). That would be okay if the screws went in smoothly, but they often didn't. There are about 20 different pieces to put together and it was an ongoing struggle to get everything to line up. In the end, I did put it all together, but the front doors won't open and close properly because something isn't aligned. Super frustrating. I'm giving it two stars instead of one though because it did light right up once I got it assembled. I chose this partly because of the one button ignition and it worked flawlessly the first time. So if you're a person who feels very confident in your ability to put things together, this could be a good product for you.
