"Inspirational. Amazing. The ultimate prize, these books are worth multiple reads." ~Coach Tom "Full of illuminating soccer insights and practical coaching tips." ~Travis Norsen A wonderful Christmas present or stocking stuffer for the soccer coach in your life! In this installment of the bestselling Soccer iQ series, college soccer coach and author, Dan Blank, educates coaches and players on the most effective ways to implement a high-pressure style of team defending. Nearly 80% of goals scored are the result of three or fewer passes, and more than half of all goals scored begin when a team wins possession of the ball in its attacking half of the field. The numbers clearly indicate a statistical advantage to winning the ball in the opponent’s end of the field, and that’s exactly what high pressure is designed to do. High pressure is perhaps the most misunderstood term in soccer’s vocabulary. There are countless coaches who want their teams to play high pressure, but many of them aren’t always quite so sure about what that means. They tend to translate ‘high pressure’ into ‘run around like you stole something until we score.’ They only extract the urgency of which the term implies without much understanding of the nuance that makes high pressure a formidable system of team defense. Those coaches understand that high pressure requires a high work rate, but they don’t understand the tactical savvy that can maximize the output of that work. As a result, their teams feature only the madness but not the method behind successful high pressure. High Pressure provides an easy-to-follow blueprint for coaches and players so they know not only what to do, but why they are doing it. In this book, Dan Blank clarifies the differences between high and low pressure and explains the big picture of high pressure defending. You will learn the roles of each position, the importance of restraining lines, and how to set up pressure funnels to win the ball in the attacking half. Coach Blank also details the telltale cues that signal a team to step up or back off its pressure, and much, much more. High pressure defending requires more than just hard work. It requires organization, communication and an indefatigable team spirit. This book will show you how to create and implement these elements to get a maximum return on your team’s effort. "10/10 Highly Recommend! Incredible read! I cannot wait for our season next month to incorporate various strategies and drills from this book. ~Dan O'Sullivan "Wow! Another great book. As a high school soccer coach, I’m always looking for new ways to improve my team - and myself. Dans books always do it." ~Alison Stein "Inspiring stuff! Looking forward to putting a lot of this into action with my team!" ~Matthew D Bryant Review: Inspirational. Amazing. - Dan did it again! Hooked, start to finish. This one took me a little longer because the season started for all 3 of my teams, but it gave me breaks to absorb the material and even use a bit of it. I noted previously on "Possession" that I'm not much for reading books about coaching because let's face it, like Dan said, everyone has their own philosophy. I respect that. However, Dan seems to walk a very similar path to nine, and he's definitely a coach I can relate to. His books are well thought out, structured ingeniously, and highly informative. My problem? I started with "Possession". Lucky me, I went back and ordered Vol. 1 and 2. Time to go back and see what I missed. If they're anything like this and Possession, it won't take me long to get through them. The ultimate prize, these books are worth multiple reads. Thanks Dan, you really do inspire. Review: Yet another book full of illuminating soccer insights and practical coaching tips - I've literally lost count of how many of Dan Blank's "Soccer IQ" books I've read at this point. He keeps writing them and I keep reading them... because every one is great. People who have read his earlier books (and people who haven't ought to correct that immediately) should know what to expect here: clearly-explained nuggets of practical wisdom. The theme of this particular book is the high press, i.e., the application of whole-team defensive pressure when the other team wins the ball in your offensive end, so your team can win the ball back before the other team has even the remotest opportunity to score. Blank covers everything from the big-picture theory to concrete suggestions for how to train the concepts at practices, and he does so in his characteristically straightforward and casual, but simultaneously penetrating and illuminating, style. If you are a coach who wants to add the high press to your team's arsenal (or a player who wants to better understand what your coach is trying to get your team to do) this book is a must-read.

Best book for teaching this style of play!
Fantastic book! For new coaches it serves as a how-to that will transform your thinking and allow you to play in a different system/style. For experienced coaches, it organizes thoughts you might already have and affirms things you might already be doing. On top of that, it gives MORE information and conceptual thoughts that any soccer addict will love. Oh...AND there are several exercises in there to teach a team how to play in a high pressure system. I can’t say enough about this book.

Good, but not as good as his other books
Soccer IQ parts 1 and 2 were priceless... this one is geared towards a niche crowd and definitely towards coaches / existing teams. The reason Im not giving a 5 is because I wouldnt recommend this to anybody, its good but read the preview before buying.

Great coaching material
Excellent Reed on playing a high-pressure defense. So many books are just a lot of fluff, but this one is concise as well as informative.

Improving your defensive approach
This is a continuation of his great approach to defense in soccer. It gets the midfielders and forwards involved in immediately putting pressure when the ball gets reversed. There are some practices suggested to help implement this. It helps to correct the mentality of the offense that defense is there to get the ball to me so I can score a goal.

Very practical, I like his philosophy.
As he said at the end of the book, high pressure game needs right players who can play as a team. As a coach you'll need to build your players and team first before taking them on the high pressure game. Great book for youth football coaches.

Good compliment to Shutout Pizza
While Shutout Pizza was a good book for explaining how to work with defenders in the defending half, this book provides a good understanding of how to defend and pressure in the attacking half immediately after giving up possession.

A great read
This book is a must read for any coach who wishes to implement a pressing system with his or her team. I particularly appreciated reference to the personal characteristics required to play this style of football (something that has had little focus in previous books I have read).

Simple to read, concepts are great
Great content, simple to read and visualize. I recommend this book to all soccer coaches wanting to teach high pressing concepts.

Practical and down to earth
I love Dan Blank's books. He takes trending and often over complicated ideas and whittles them down to clear, practical strategies and tactics. In addition, the small comments and asides about what you might experience in applying the exercises are priceless. They ring with the truth of someone who has been there. I've been coaching competitive soccer for 23 years and Dan's voice is a refreshing change Recommend without hesitation.

Press ! Press ! Press !
Le livre couvre plusieurs aspects de la pression. Il propose plusieurs exercices. Quelques graphiques supplémentaires auraient été appréciés. J’ai hâte de l’appliquer sur le terrain.
