Is the handle hollow?

The handle is metal, so it is hollow. I would not recommend this broom. It is poorly made. My husband had to put in a metal screw where the handle meets the broom to keep it from spinning around(it had a cheap plastic screw that wouldn't tighten.). Also, the straws curled up with a few uses, and straws fall out every time I use it. I tried to send it back for a refund, but the broom came from a third source, so it was next to impossible to return. Amazon didn't want to deal with it.

When using the broom do the bristles continue to fall out?

Yes, the bristles fall out all over the place. The handle also would spin around, so my husband had to put in a real screw to keep it in place. The broom shape changed quickly to the angle. I checked about a refund/return, but the process was so complicated, that I gave up. I use the broom now because of the cost, but I don't like it.
