Very pleased with this item. It is double walled so it keep the coffee hot. It works fast and I like that it has an on/off switch and then two lights, one telling you it is brewing and the second to say coffee is ready and staying warm. The spicot is easy to work and the right height to put a coffee cup underneath. I got many compliments from the coffee drinkers as to how good it was.

I never intended to use this coffeemaker for coffee, but it would be good for that, too. I make hot spiced cider every fall and serve it at a number of autumn gatherings. The unit is quiet when heating up, quick to heat and very quiet when maintaining temperature. I hosted a Celebration of Life event in my yard in November when it was bitterly cold outside and this unit had no trouble maintaining the spiced cider at perfect hotness even with the frigid outdoor temperature. I was concerned about cloves and allspice berries accidentally getting into and clogging the liquid level gauge or other internal parts, so I used the perforated aluminum filter, but without the rod inserted, so the filter stayed at the bottom of the pot instead of the top. That way, the orange slices, lemon peels, cinnamon sticks and spices could continue to infuse the cider with flavor, even when the levels got low. Worked like a charm and made cleanup so easy! I just pulled the aluminum filter out and dumped the contents into my compost pile, then washed and rinsed the interior of the unit. I've used the unit three times since it was delivered and it has worked flawlessly each time.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: This coffee urn makes the hottest coffee imaginable. That works well for me because I’m constantly on the go, so I put my coffee in a thermos. Hours later the coffee is still hot. It percolates quickly considering how large this urn is. I love that I don’t have to use coffee filters with this model. And the coffee urn is huge! It makes enough coffee to last my family of 5 all day. The downside of this coffee urn is if you fill the water to the full line it splatters coffee in a 2 foot wide mess while percolating. That’s easily fixed by filling the urn couple inches shy of the full line. I purchased the urn in January. By July the spout is leaking. I expected more from a coffee urn that costs over $100. But even though it didn’t last long it’s still my favorite coffee urn I’ve ever owned. I read on the web site they have a lifetime warranty. But I doubt I’ll go through the trouble of contacting them, having a part shipped to me, fixing it myself, or sending them the old one. Most people wouldn’t. Which is why the lifetime warranty is so effective now a days I suspect. It gives people confidence to buy the product that costs a bit more but there’s very little risk of people as busy as we are going through the hassle of replacement.

We run a non-profit coffeehouse that provides free meals and a LOT of coffee throughout the week. I have an issue with using aluminum cooking devices that interact with acids in any way. Coffee is fairly acidic so I opted to relegate the older aluminum model to heating water for hot cocoa and tea only, and purchased this for our coffee. We have regular visitors that consume a lot of coffee here and the comments came back immediately about how much better the coffee tasted in this new urn. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I can't offer comment, but I can pass on what our friends say and they are very satisfied with the change. I'm not sure the cleaning or other functions are that much different than the old urn, but the look is very pleasant and professional. The basket for the grounds is also stainless steel and not plastic which is another plus in my book when in comes to questionable materials interacting with acidic liquids...the health and taste factors do matter to me. I also like the glass column that allows you to see the coffee level as well.

Other customers should know that this company has ignored my emails ( I can send the email thread) regarding their warranty on the Coffee Urn I purchased last August. I had also taken out an Asurion extended warranty plan on this product. I have used this approximately 6-8 times. This past Saturday, I woke up to water leakage all over my kitchen counter....... I am lucky that it hadn't leaked down on my cabinets! I first called Asurion and they advised me that my product was still under warranty with Zulay. I emailed them...heard back....emailed them again to answer their questions....a couple of days later, I heard back from them asking why I didn't respond. I then forwarded the email thread to them to show I did respond. Still did not hear back. Then emailed them AGAIN and in the last 2 days have STILL NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM. My call today was to Amazon. After explaining the whole situation.....Amazon is refunding my purchase price and the $ I spent on the Assurion plan. I would definately not buy anything from Zulay ever again.

good product w/high quality

I bought this items one month apart last year (October and November). Initially, it was just for whenever we have a party at work. But now, whenever the non-profit org I am involved with has an event, this 2 goes with us. Whether it be a meeting or symposium or a picnic. I bought the slender one first then I ordered the two-toned one a month later. I like the two-toned one (black and “stainless”) better because it has a power switch and indicator lights (for heating and keep warm) and the power cord is attached and is short. Though, it takes longer to make coffee, maybe more than 30 minutes. The slender type (on the right, all black) makes coffee quickly, just one indicator light and the power cord is detachable. So you can use a much longer cord if needed. Everyone loves the coffee on both. I use 3.5 gallon water to fill both percolators. I use 2.5 cups of coffee grounds for each. I have tested it with starbucks coffee grounds. But the great tasting one (and as per my guests) is the Pete’s coffee grounds. First try was the Dark roast french roast and today I used the hazelnut mocha flavor. It was again a success! The two-toned one is the is best for me between the 2.

Despite the slightly lower star rating, I selected this product due to the better quality metal and insulation not found on cheaper versions. It worked great on a houseboat trip and provided more than enough daily coffee for 15 adults. Brewing took less time than I expected too, maybe closer to 40 or 45 minutes for a full pot. The lights are bright and obvious to show everyone when it’s ready versus when it’s still brewing. It’s big, but doesn’t take up way more volume than a regular countertop coffee maker. The capacity gauge was hard to read at times, and you do need to tip it forward to get the last of the coffee out. But overall this worked well for the intended purpose.
