The steel core of the messenger cable molded onto my overhead Cat-5 cable is too small to be gripped by the smallest available hanger, so I had to leave the coating on the messenger cable in order for the hanger to grip it. I was skeptical that this would last long, but the line has been up for about a year, and has slipped only once on one end (fortunately, without dropping the cable). Other than that (which really isn't the fault of the hanger), I was entirely pleased with the device: It was very easy to install (even on my "mis-matched" cable). I don't have a suitable release tool for it, so I can't comment on how well that works. (One time, I needed to release a cable, so I had to cut the cable at the snout of the hanger, and pull the cut end through. Fortunately, there was enough slack to allow me to re-hang the cable... but, you may want to get a release tool if you have need to release and re-hang a cable *without* cutting it). Bottom line: This hanger works great. I only wish it came in a size small enough to use *correctly* on my tiny messenger cable.
