Water Management
This is a Kohler branded piece from Pyhn. This is a nice piece including the app that comes with it and will give you peace of mind as well as a small discount from your home insurance. I will be adding local leak detection throughout the house but this is the way you minimize any water issues especially while you are away.

Terrible functionality
I bought and installed one in July 2024. No, this product is no good. This is the scenario that happened to me - On a nice day I put a blow up pool in the backyard. Kids are having fun in the water that runs constantly. Then POW, the water turns off. So now 8 kids in the pool are mad and inside the house 9 adults are unable to wash hands, dishes or everything else you use water for and in the middle of all this turmoil, I am on the Kohler app frantically trying to get to the place where you might turn the water back on. Can't find it! Can't find it! Did I say I Can't find it? Horrible situation. Every one mad at me. Phooey on this application. You may be sorry if you get one.

Impressive product
Having the ability to monitor and shut off water to your home remotely is valuable. It also entitles you to a discount on your home insurance ( check your policy to be certain). Easy to install if you have pex or pvc pipes. I used a plumber. Kohler does not include fittings and this is an extra expense as the fittings are brass.

Great Concept, Room for Improvement on Controls and Support
We bought this product for a non-primary residence so that we can turn the water off and on remotely if needed. We had it installed a week ago, and it has served that fundamental purpose just fine. It also provides some interesting and suprisingly accurate data about the sources of our water use. That said, one major reason that we chose this device over others is that it supposedly has the ability to control the device using Amazon Alexa. So far, that function has never worked at all, and we always get an error message. I spent quite a bit of time with Kohler's customer service folks about that, but because Kohler doesn't actually manufacture the product (Phyn does), they didn't know much about it and couldn't provide any help. They supposedly "created a ticket," but it's been several days, and I've never heard back from anyone. So, I'm relegated to using the app, which is ultimately fine although suboptimal. With respect to the IOS app, the water on/off button on the screen is dangerously close to the bottom of the screen where you "swipe up" to close the app. I'm always afraid that I'll accidentally turn the water on or off when I close the app. They should really move that button on the IOS app. With respect to the installation, it was beyond my skillset and comfort level, so I paid a plumber, who took care of it in maybe 30 minutes. Thanks to you folks who provided information about which "meter couplings" to buy, as that helped to expedite the installation. With respect to installation, our residence is on a well water system, so I called Kohler to ask whether that warrants a different approach to installing the valve. I was told that it would be advisable to install the valve after any sediment filter and water softening / conditioning mechanism. That installation information is not readily available online, so I thought that I'd pass that along. UPDATE: The Alexa connectivity now works. But what’s weird is that when you ask Alexa “Ask Kohler to turn on / off the water,” the response isn’t simply “OK” or “Water turned on / off.” Rather, the response is something like, “SOV state is published for the device.” I have no idea what that means, so I check the app to ensure that the water has actually been turned on or off, which kind of defeats the purpose of the voice activation. Update 2: We’ve now had this for 14 months and it’s still functioning fine. Somewhat surprisingly, they still haven’t updated / improved the Amazon Echo integration (particularly the voice commands and responses). As a practical matter, this just means that we’re relegated to using the app, which is basically fine.

Buy the Mueller Meter Coupling!!!
No plumbing supply house in my city had the proper couplings, as my very good plumber found out. Kohler ought to supply these specialized fittings, Mueller Meter Coupling, 3/4", Lead Free - GIDDS-289400. Note that they add about 5 inches to the length of the unit. WiFi setup was not, shall we say, up to modern standards. Got it to work, but took longer than it should.

Works great!
I purchased this unit to monitor my water usage and also detect leaks. It's still in the learning process. But it's doing great automatically picking up what it thinks is using water. It's not hard to install with the right tools. I contacted 3 licensed plumbers. None of them wanted to touch it, since they had never heard of it. So I thought I would contact a handyman. Still no luck. But I wanted this unit. My next option was to install it myself. I'm pretty handy around the house. But I'm no expert. I went by my local home improvement store for the parts. The instructions stated I needed a 3/4" meter coupling. So I got that. I have pvc pipes. So I also purchased a female adapter. I also wanted to put a shutoff valve before the unit. So I installed that first. I reused parts of the pipes I cut off for this. It was not hard to install at all. Just make sure you have 2 sets of pliers and plumber's tape. This is handy when installing the adapter to the coupling. Install the app, and watch it learn. The only thing I would change in the app is the ability to name the different unit. All sinks are "sink". All toilets are "toilet". So I wouldn't know if it's the kitchen sink or master bath toilet. But other than that, I'm loving it so far.

impossible to get adaptor
The 1" fitting is npt and I have been to 4 different stores to get an adapter to out it to PEX b. The manufacturer (made for Kohler) emailed me suggestions. I ordered them and they don't fit!!! Good luck, I've owned it 2 months and I have a $350 paperweight at this point. I'm past the return window and I'll have to keep trying.
