can you remove tile insert portion ?

Ships with no tile insert, just an empty tray. You are supposed to add your own tile (to match the other tile in your shower). If installed correctly, the tile will not be removable once installed.

Does this come with everything needed to install? The frequently bought together has a rubber seal and drain base

Yes, it had everything thing you need for either new or existing construction.

Does this work with the Kerdi membrane system? I see Kerdi has membrane bonded to the drain, but other than that, they look the same.

This can work with a Kerdi membrane BUT ... Do NOT use silicone to adhere/seal to Kerdi as someone else suggested. Use the special and expensive Schluter adhesive sealant. This drain design is significantly different than Kerdi System. It will void your Kerdi warranty. This drain is designed for use with standard clamping drain.

I have to buy the drain base... the black thing in te picture or is ready for install with everything ?

You need to buy the black gasket (2) pieces amazon suggest. I have installed 20+ and they are great.
