This is the second one I’ve bought , great umbrella, strong with stands wind can fit in your bag . Not to big to carry .Recommend

Well built brolly that is sturdy, not like those cheap, rubbish ones that break easily.You get what you pay for.

When holding the umbrella, don’t have handle pointing toward you. It retracts and has just fired into my tummy, ouch.This looks like a well made umbrella, not used in the weather as yet.

Always buy my umbrellas from those that specialise in making them.Number 4 in my umbrella collection - each serving a different purpose in addition to keeping off the rain.This one is compact enough to carry in a small day sack when out walking - just in case.Fulton - quality at an affordable price point.Recommended.

I recently bought my second Fulton Open & Close umbrella, after my first one finally gave up the ghost. But it had an exceedingly good run of at least 15 years (I bought it in either 1998 or 1999, when the handle was a medium grey colour).By the time I realised it needed replacing, the open and close mechanism still worked reasonably well (albeit not as smoothly as when it was brand new). However, the aluminium ribs had corroded and, where the rib joints touched, the polyester canopy had completely worn away (partly my fault, as I lost the protective sleeve a few years prior).So, with some trepidation, I ordered a new one, fearing that the quality had severely dropped (if various reviews, over the internet, are anything to go by). Although I've only had the new one for a couple of weeks, I'm delighted to report that both the quality and build are almost the same - they even feel identical.Upon receiving the new umbrella, I compared it with the older one. After spending some time inspecting them, I could only detect two significant differences:1) The handle - it's now rubber instead of plastic, which is a great enhancement. I'm also glad that the colour is now black, instead of medium grey, as that's the colour I originally would have preferred when I purchased the first one.2) The upper ribs - like the lower ribs (i.e. the ones closer to the runner or centre), the upper ribs used to be all aluminium - now they're partly made from fibreglass. According to Fulton, this change is supposed to "enhance wind resistance", so only time will tell. However, one thing's for sure - there should now be less corrosion in the long-term.With regards to all the complaints about how it performs against strong winds, this umbrella never claimed to be that sturdy (it even states this on the accompanying tag, if you take a closer look). However, I feel that many people fail to hold their umbrellas at a certain angle, to avoid possible wind damage. It's well worth remembering, if you want your umbrella to last that little bit longer.Anyway, for now, I'm going to give it four stars and see how things go (and I also have to agree with others that it's a little pricey these days - I'm sure it cost around £8, back in the late '90s).Hopefully, I should be able to get a good ten years out of it before needing yet another replacement.UPDATE 1 (December 2020):Six years on and I still have the same umbrella, which is still functioning fine. However, I've decided to keep my rating at four due to an annoying handle flaw.A year or two after buying the umbrella, I noticed black stains on my hands after using it. I soon discovered that this was due to the handle, which isn't made from rubber but plastic (like my first one), with a thin coating of some rubber-type material. I eventually ended up removing the sticky coating with the help of some rubbing alcohol.I suppose Fulton thought it would be a good idea to provide the handle with better grip quality, but neglected to realise that persistent body heat will melt the coating over time!UPDATE 2 (November 2023):Remember when I mentioned that the upper ribs are now made from fibreglass? Well, I’ve just discovered that one of them partially snapped after being briefly flexed the wrong way.The umbrella is still useable but, when compared to the other sections, that section of the canopy is now noticeably deformed. Just to be safe, I’ve wrapped the affected rib with some duct tape to protect it from further damage.While the use of fibreglass may have been beneficial in one respect, it clearly lacks the durability of aluminium. As a result, I’ve now deducted one star from my rating. Still, nine years is pretty good going.UPDATE 3 (December 2023):Since my last update, I‘ve used it a couple of times and now the damaged rib has completely snapped off. Some duct tape has been re-applied, but over a wider area to ensure that the damaged rib remains intact and functional. Personally, I would like to persist with this umbrella for at least another year before disposing of it. However, that largely depends on the repaired rib behaving itself.UPDATE 4 (October 2024):So, just after reaching its ten year anniversary, the umbrella completely fell apart! Firstly, one of the metal hooks inexplicably dislodged itself, from the parent rib, and its u-shaped hook tore into the canopy. As a result, roughly one-third of the umbrella was deformed.With the affected part of the canopy now slightly torn, unlatching the hook was a real challenge but my persistence eventually paid off… until the runner suddenly stopped locking, exposing two thin, white cords above it! With the rain pelting down and being unable to keep the umbrella fully opened, I hastily threw it into the nearest public bin.Would I buy another Fulton? No. Back when I bought my first one, open and close umbrellas were a rarity. Now, such umbrellas are commonplace. Also, this model is now THREE TIMES what my first one originally cost! Coupled with the inferior fibreglass ‘upgrade’, this umbrella can no longer be considered good value for money.

What can one say it’s a Fulton the name says it all performance is excellent in any storm automatically opens and close with a press of a button lightweight not heavy ease of use and wind resistance fits in one’s bag without bulk.

Sound umbrella - compact but wide enough to cover you. Easy to put up and down with the automatic button.

Lo compré porque había leído comentarios positivos de la marca y, la verdad, es que es el paraguas plegable que más me está durando. Acostumbrado a que con otros paraguas se atascara el mecanismo de apertura o a que se rompieran o doblaran las varillas al poco tiempo de comprarlo, en este caso estamos ante un paraguas duradero y resistente. No es barato en comparación con otros (de esos con mensajitos o que se compran en tiendas de regalos low-cost) pero es muy recomendable si lo que quieres es un paraguas sobrio, resistente y duradero.
