Hope he likes it! It looks really interesting and has some fun recipes to try.

I have tried a few recipes from this over Christmas and all seemed to work well although the recipes have understandably been tweaked a little from the old English facing pages. Whilst the book is beautifully presented, for practical use as a cookery book a few pictures of the food would be handy though. When you are making a dish you are unfamiliar with, it’s difficult to know if something has worked or not without a few pictures or descriptions. However, I made the grete pye, the golden onions and leeks and some medieval white bread and my family enjoyed it all!

Very interesting recipes, beautifully illustrated. Not tried any yet.

Nice book, but somehow the recipes seemed to have been modernised a bit too much. I would have preferred if the recipes had been translated and then a modern version of the recipe presented.

A Christmas present very well received

Interesting way to combine delicious and distinct flavors with an appreciation of the limited food options but access to exotic spices in the 13th-15th century period.

The book has been excellently composed to include old English as well as modern quantities and directions. The illustrations add to the read of the book as well as the short historical synopsis at the beginning of each main chapter. Great addition to the library.

Maravilloso. Me encanta. Pocas recetas pero contenido invaluable. Sobre todo por la bibliografía. Papel e imágenes de calidad. Maquetación correcta. Hubiera sido fantástico que hicieran fotos de los platos pero no lo hicieron. Ni modo. Además es el único libro que me ha llegado sin ni un rasguño así que a destacar.

Love this. There are quotes and instructions from Old English that I believe was sourced from actual Medieval manuscripts but then gets adopted for modern recipe instructions. So it was easy to understand. I have made a few recipes and turned out great. I wish they had categorized the recipes into groups such as meat and vegetarian. Did not realize that reoccurring spice for several recipes had saffron which is quite expensive today. If you're interested in medieval history, this would be a great book to read, learn, and cook.
