Great feature set for great price, Duronic Radio
I have ordered 2 of these radios for walking and as an addition to home "emergency" kit (ie. power blackout etc.). It is a small and light radio, its sound is imo very good for its size though a little tinny, the handle arm on both sets has a good positive action and provides a noticeable improvement in charge time / radio use compared to a previous radio (though I have not measured this), the telescopic antenna is recessed on the back and seems sturdy compared to a previous radio. The included battery is in a small compartment underneath, some NiMh battery which could of been slightly larger size (it is very small) though this is being picky. The flashlight is 3 LED type with a flood type diffusion, and is bright enough to light a room or provide very short distance illumination outside. I have not used the solar panel ontop but the LED indicates charging when in sunlight and I think it is a great addition. The volume and frequency knobs are recessed and well protected, and the whole design appears very durable for knocks and blows, though I doubt it is waterproof it appears very well constructed. It came with a few accessories which I used to charge up to full from a 5V USB port, it also comes with a female usb adaptor which I used for a short test to charge my HTC Desire smartphone, winding the handle indicated charging on the phones screen, I do not know how long it would take to fully charge a phone in this manner but it is a great addition. I compared this model to many other models of more expensive wind up radios online and out of many compared I think this one has the best price / feature set out of basically all others, plus its construction is v good, I am very happy with it and decided to leave this review! (Duronic Apex Digital Display Wind-Up Solar Powered AM/FM Radio Alarm Clock Torch)(I think there is another one from Duronic with similar name and look but without what I felt was the best feature set)

Excellent little thing :-)
So, the delivery man arrived & I got this out of the packet. I pulled it out of the box, didn't look at the instructions & wound it up (not very energetically, but the little red light went on so it counted) for ooooh, must be all of 1 minute then I tried to turn the radio on. It didn't work!! Another minute winding, no result. That's when I noticed there is a little switch on the underside you have to turn on. As long as that is off, nothing will work (including the clock) It doesn't seem to keep the time if that switch is turned off, but it may be that it would have with more charging. I'll have to see at some point in the future. So, now I'd set the on switch, the clock turned on, the radio worked & the torch worked too. The sound quality isn't as good as on my more expensive radios, but it's fine. The volume goes up far too loud for me to listen to if I'm sat near it. The dial on the left hand turns the radio on & then the volume up (or down & off if you turn it the other way) The dial on the right hand tunes the radio in. When the radio is on, you can't see the time, just the radio station. It's easy to set the time, you just hold the time button then press the hour & minute ones to get to the right time. Alarm the same, which means that long after I've lost the instructions I'll be able to reset it with no problems. The alarm turns the radio on when it goes off At night the torch is bright enough to read a book by if you had to, so if the power went you could use it to get down the stairs & see what's going on with no problem. On day 1 I probably spent a total of 10 minutes winding it, mostly for the novelty value. The winder doesn't care if you wind it clockwise or anticlockwise so this would be just as easy to use for a left handed or right handed person. When not in use, it tucks away in a recess shaped for it in the back. My toddler is currently obsessed with turning every electrical item in the house on, so this radio ran for at least 5 hours on day one, with the torch on intermittently - it may have been charging from the sunlight though as he kept putting it on the windowsill. Setting the 12hr clock & the alarm is simple, you just hold the time set (or alarm set) button then use the hour & minute buttons to get the time right. If you go past the hour you want, you'll have to cycle back through the whole day as it doesn't go backwards. The radio goes on when the alarm goes off at about half the maximum volume. You don't need the instructions to work it out, unlike some other clocks I've had. It's been on for hours already today, but I haven't wound it up yet, so it must be running off sunlight. So far, I'm delighted with this, enough that if it's still performing this well after the summer, I expect I'll be gifting these as Christmas presents - they are handy for home, taking to the beach or in the garden but I think every car owner should have something like this in their car too. The only things I don't like about this (but I can live with them) are that the clock is not backlit & if you press the little light button it only stays lit up for 10 seconds, so you wouldn't be able to find it easily in the dark (but perhaps there is a way to have it stay backlit, I'll have to read the whole manual -it's only a page long- & see) & I find it hard to hold it comfortably to wind the charging handle without pressing all the buttons on the top, turning the torch on & off while doing so. I also wish it displayed the time while the radio was on. I haven't tried charging a mobile with it yet, but it came with 2 cables so I'll give that a go some time soon. I plan to update this review in 3 months to see how it's performed after the summer.

Great little work-a-day radio
I wanted a little radio for when I'm pottering about the greenhouse / garden and this fits the bill perfectly. It's very sturdy with a rubberised finish that has so far withstood various knocks / drizzle / crumbs of compost. I've had the radio for about 6 months now and have used it regularly outside for about 3 months. Plus points: - stays charged from the sun most of the time if left in a sunny spot (the greenhouse in my case) - red indicator light tells you if the radio is charging - when the charge runs low (after some hours of use), a 1-minute wind-up keeps it going for another half-hour or so - good reception for both FM and AM - capacity for nice loud volume if needed - torch is surprisingly powerful (but a narrow beam) Minus points: - sound quality is not great but you wouldn't buy this radio for the sound quality - a bit fiddly to tune it using the rotary switch and I also find the tuning drifts slightly after a while - volume seems to vary spontaneously at times - top buttons are a bit small and fiddly - instructions are not overly useful I charged it up using the USB connection when I first got it but it hasn't been necessary since then. I've used it many times when I've been out in the garden the entire day and it's kept going all day if sunny, with a few windings to keep it going later in the day. I mostly listen to sport on it so the tinny tones don't trouble me. I've now started using it indoors doing some decorating because it's so handy to perch on a window-sill. I've never used the alarm so can't comment on that but I've been absolutely delighted with this radio so far. I can see it being handy for days out / camping as well. I've actually grown so fond of it that I've even given it a name!

This Is The Best Little Radio!
I was shopping around for a replacement shower radio as I was tired of spending so much money on replacing six (6) "C" batteries every few months! And although wireless speakers are popular right now, I did not want another electronic gadget I did not specifically need or have to have. Specifically, I just needed a simple radio to listen to in the bathroom. And most importantly, I needed something that was affordable, reliable, sturdy (with a toddler running around this is very important!), compact size, and more energy friendly. So when I found this on Amazon I was intrigued because of the stellar reviews and the interesting energy-friendly features. So based on the strength of the reviews here, I ordered this. And I'm happy to report that this ticks off ALL the boxes for me! And the bonus torch light and solar panel as well as additional wind-up mechanism to recharge are GREAT features. I really wish I had discovered this fun and kid-friendly radio sooner, I would have saved a lot of money on having to buy all those wasteful batteries over the years! I could have (should have) purchased a few of these instead. This is easily one of the best purchases I've made on Amazon ever. Dispatch and shipping was quick, delivery was prompt, and satisfaction 100%. I wish I could give this a 10 stars rating. Highly recommended!

A little gem - every home should have one!
For the price this is an excellent little radio. I bought it mainly for two purposes: First, as an emergency radio for use in power cuts, which sadly are a fact of life in the remote valley where I live. Second, I wanted a small portable radio I could use occasionally in the bathroom and not have to bother with buying or separately charging, batteries. This is excellent for both purposes. Don't expect HiFi and you won't be disappointed. The sound is adequate - better for speech than music and the volume is good enough if you sit reasonably close to the set or are in a smallish room. It can be charged by cranking it - a minute or so will give you half an hour of sound. It sits on my window sill (which faces West) and seems to solar charge even on a dull day. Finally, there is a USB lead which will charge it from a laptop or from the mains via an adaptor. The led torch is a bonus (for power cuts or camping) as is the ability to charge your mobile phone in a power cut. It is a neat, reasonably stylish little radio ideal for power cuts, the bathroom, by your bed or in the garden. Even in these days of DAB radio and radio via your TV and the internet, almost every home would benefit from this little gem. The blurb with it (which you should read) says it should last for up to five years - that will do me - and it works out at £3 per year - what's not to like?

Very compact and easy to use
This is a great product - as soon as you take it out the box you know it's good quality. The rubberised finish is a delight to hold as it is soft and slightly silky and just feels good in the hand - especially as you need a decent grip to wind it up. The winding takes a certain amount of effort, but it charges quickly - and I'm assuming that it will mostly be charged via the solar panel, so no effort required at all! Or, if you're feeling particularly lazy, you can charge it from your PC/notebook using the USB cable. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the instructions are not that easy to read, being quite small, but to be honest most of the main functions are very simple to work out and use. The digital tuning makes it very easy to find the right channel and the reception with the aerial extended seems very good. Based on a few of the other comments I was slightly concerned about the sound quality, but I have to say it's exactly what I would expect from a radio (battery or otherwise) of this size. In fact, the volume goes quite loud, although it does distort somewhat at high volume. So, all in all, I'd highly recommend this product if you want a light and compact portable radio - and also don't want to keep spending out on batteries!

Great Service Great Product
Ordered on a Thursday Dispatched on Saturday arrived on Monday standard delivery so ★★★★★ for that. To get the one bad thing out of the way for me is you dont know when the battery is fully charged you just know it is charging by the red light on the top. This product is worth way more than £15 the sound is ok for a very small radio and I only listen to BBC Radio4. The rado is very lightweight and can fit in your pocket it has the great light which is very bright LEDs. It has a built in alarm and the time/alarm/radio channel display on the front panel has a light which will remain on for 10 seconds when the button on the top is pressed. It also has a headphone jack and a mains charging jack but it does not come with a mains charger but you can charge it by USB you get a cable you can also use the radio to charge your phone or tablet. And of course you can charge the radio battery by sunlight or by winding with the built in handle on the back of the radio. ★★★★ For the product would be 5 if it told you when fully charged but that is a very minor factor.

a great wee radio!
This is my 4th purchase of a wind up radio over the years, the 2nd Duronic model and although it's early days, I think I've found the best! All my other radios fell apart in one way or another - and I only use them in the bathroom - but I'm delighted to have finally found a sturdy radio that has already survived being knocked into the bath. It also has added extras such as a torch, woohoo, but I haven't used this yet! I've been using a usb cable to charge it up as there's a distinct lack of sunshine at the moment and it seems to hold a charge for a while. I haven't let it run down yet so I can't really say how long the full charge lasts but the sound has remained clear and distinct - which was another problem with my other radios. I'd think this would also be ideal for use in the garden as it is well made and sturdy. UPDATE September 2017 Now on my 5th Duronic Wind-up Solar radio as the 4th one also fell foul of being knocked into the bath when showering ...but bought another one as I have every confidence in the actual radio. Keeps a charge during the summer just by being left on the windowsill and the occasional winding-up or charge using the USB cable during the winter months.

Duronic digital radio
After thorough review several radios I selected this and daily carrying during morning walking hearing music. The sound clarity is sharp. The LED light is super bright. The battery power remains for a week with outdoor solar charging alone. I find no frequency for hand cranking and USB charging. Above all what I specialize is the design! It is flat on both sides. No troubling projections. Both tuning and volume knobs are erected in hallow portion of the body which will get no physical damage. Control buttons are arranged on the top in body level. The alarm is capable of waking deep sleep persons. Tried my best to charge iPhone 4s and Samsung by hand crank. Charging icons function but percentage of battery level did not increase for myself. Many more aspects positive. I highly recommend this to all beyond doubt and hesitation.
