Janis JOPLIN Pearl CD Review: The great Janis' finest. - Janis Joplin at her finest, superb album, rough gritty blues with soul, sang frim the heart ,essntial listening. Review: Janis Joplin classic - This was Janis at her best. I bought the album years ago when it first came out. Her version of Me and Bobby McGee was always my favourite. Janis had a rawness to her voice that hid no emotion and made her vulnerable. Other tracks like Cry Baby are now familiar thanks to adverts although I’m not sure she would have appreciated that! Mercedes Benz continues to make me smile each time I hear it. Like many others I sold my album collection when CDs came out. I think this is a timeless album that resonates with old and young although it lacks the polished sound of today’s music and as such, may not be appreciated by some.

Undoubtedly Janis Joplin's strongest album
Although this is a posthumous release, this for me has the strongest set of songs that really showcase Janis's fantastic vocal range. From the emotional Me and Bobby McGee to the upbeat Move Over and the humorous Mercedes Benz - it all shows the variety and talent she had in her singing. There are a few different reissues of this album and it can be confusing as to which you're getting on some seller's listings. I purchased the 1999 Sony version (bar code 5099749286528 / Columbia COL 492865 2) which contains the original 10 tracks, plus four previously unreleased live ones: Tell Mama, Little Girl Blue, Try (Just a Little Bit Harder) and Cry Baby.

It still sounds as good (to my aged ears) almost 50 years on
I recently returned to vinyl having (at last) managed to get my Transcriptors Hydraulic Reference turntable refurbished. Regrettably I sold most of my vinyl collection around 35 years go (what a mug!). So, I'm slowly (and expensively) re-building the collection (starting with my favourites). Listening to 'Pearl' on vinyl (as it was meant to be heard) was a revelation anew. I'd forgotten just how wonderful this album is. The re-mastered disc (180 gsm plastic) has been produced to a high standard. Polythene lined inner sleeve (rather than the dusty paper of the original) and neat outside wrapper to protect the cover are included. Great album content and superb quality. Just another 100 replacement albums to buy now!

great singer last album released after her death
first off amazon -Condition: Used - Very Good - Item may come repackaged. Small cosmetic damage on the item case. an understatement as cd jewel case in bits literally held together by the cellophane but cd worked so I've changed the case the music is raw blues/rock fabulous vocals - this is how you deliver feeling through a microphone dear Janice deeply missed

Janis On Vinyl
Listening to Janis Joplin on vinyl is an experience never to be missed. Just wonderful to listen to on the Columbia label and a 180 gm pressed vinyl.
