In the vast DC Comics Universe of super heroes, the rich mythology of Superman, the planet Krypton and the House of El is perhaps the most famous and instantly recognizable. Enter Supergirl (Melissa Benoist)! Born Kara Zor-El on the doomed planet Krypton, the preteen Kara escaped at the same time as the infant Kal-El, but didn't arrive on Earth until many years later after being lost in the Phantom Zone. Protected and raised by her adopted family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to hide the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin. Years later, at age 24, living in National City and working as an assistant for Catco Worldwide Media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), Kara has spent so many years trying to fit in that she forgot to ever stand out. All that changes when she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero she was always destined to be. With the help of Daily Planet photographer James Olsen, her bioengineer sister Alex, and the research of the super-secret, off-the-grid Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO) and its head Hank Henshaw, who are tasked with keeping the Earth safe from aliens, Kara takes to the skies to protect her world. Her foes include both a sinister extra-terrestrial menace and the high-tech terrestrial threat of clever villains with powerful weaponry. Produced by Berlanti Productions (Arrow, The Flash, Pan), this one-hour drama is an epic action-adventure for the entire family. Combining the heart, humour and spectacle of a super hero series, with the week-to-week intrigue of the DEO's investigations, Kara's childhood memories of her time on Krypton and the sophisticated workplace dramedy of her secret identity at Catco, SUPERGIRL is charged with true epic storytelling -- bringing a strong female hero to television screens at long last. Review: More adventures for the girl of steel! - Got my season 2 Blu-Ray today and as a big fan of the show, I was thrilled to rewatch in lovely high definition Blu Ray. Firstly, as a Blu-Ray release you get a pristine picture and my home cinema system likes the multi channel audio. However as with season 1, it is a pretty disappointing set of extras. The best by far is a commentary by Kevin Smith and Andrew Kreisberg on the episode Supergirl Lives. Smith Is a fan and talks about the show rather than telling us how every shot was done. Other extras: There is a short featurette about the alien fight club in disc 1. A longer, 20 mins or so feature about the aliens and the way they came to the fore this season but doesnt go into the finale with the Daxamites or Lillian Luthor sending them all off in a spaceship in Exodus. There is a half hour or so video of the Comic Con panel from last year - which if you're a fan you probably saw or read about online over a year ago and features the actors talking cagily about the events of the season you just bought! There is a 3 or 4 minute chat with Kevin Smith and Andrew Kreisberg again, that says little more than the episode commentary and a 'did you know?' section with a bunch of 30second interviews that reveal very little of interest and are hardly worth it. No bloopers, no deleted scenes! Would love to have had the producers talk more about some of the bigger arcs of the season - Kara's love life, Alex coming out, the Luthors, the changes involved in moving production to Vancouver, the guest stars like Linda Carter and Teri Hatcher. As for the season as a whole, I liked it a lot. Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers/ Supergirl remains totally delightful. Chyler Leigh as her sister Alex has some very strong stuff as she has huge developments In her character, as Alex comes to terms with her sexuality and begins a relationship with detective Maggie Sawyer. Alex also has some strong storylines dealing with her father, and the Alex and Kara sisterly bond remains at the heart of the show. The move to Vancouver meant Calista Flockhart was no longer a series regular but she does appear In the first 2 and last 2 episodes and it is only when she returns, you realise how much she has been missed, Cat Grant brings a snarky humour no one else does. The addition of Lena and Lillian Luthor is another strong point of the season. Lillian as played by Brenda Strong is a fantastic villain while Lena's growing friendship with Kara is delightful and Katie McGrath is great. Looking forward to Lena being a series regular in season 3. One of the more controversial additions is Chris Wood as Mon El, who starts as an annoying frat boy and surprise, surprise ends up as Kara's boyfriend. For some, the move to The CW meant a cute white boy was unsurprising but a step backwards for a show that had always been progressive. Still, Wood is actually a very funny and charming addition. However, the middle of the season sometimes seemed more like the Mon El show at times. He had more character growth than anyone and probably more screen time than anyone apart from Benoist. Mon El is also someone who constantly seemed to argue and ignore Kara and some questioned whether Supergirl's job is to fix dumb but cute guys! Fortunately, the last 4 or 5 episodes, they seemed to find a better balance, both in how much screen time he got over others and also how he treated Kara. Chris Wood (currently dating Melissa Benoist by the way!) is charming and unsurprisingly has good chemistry with Benoist. I'm not sure if this season ever quite matched the brilliance of season 1's Falling (Kara on red K) but there are a whole bunch of very good episodes, a stack of good ones and a few meh ones. The biggest missteps are probably to do with James Olsen. Having spent all of the first season with Kara mooning over him, it's all over by the end of episode 1 while the addition of the handsome white dude (Mon El) is set up as the new love interest pretty much immediately. James then takes over Cat Grant's job (yes, photographer Jimmy Olsen) but is dissatisfied and decides he wants to be a superhero for no reason apart from baddies breaking his dad's camera. It never really works and the charming Mehcad Brooks is not well served this year at all. Inevitably with no Cat Grant. Kara's work life takes a back seat, her new boss Snapper Carr just grumps and Kara's job just appears to involve interviewing her gal pal Lena! It's also worth pointing out there are 2 crossover events that might puzzle viewers. The episode Medusa ends with Kara jumping into a portal with Barry Allen and an adventure in Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow that obviously are not on this Blu Ray. More confusing, the episode Star Crossed has Darren Criss appear as the Music Meister and ends with Kara breaking up with Mon El. They are whisked off to a musical episode of The Flash (Duet) where they make up, however Supergirl fans watching the discs will be confused to find them happily together at the start of the very next episode. Overall I thought this was a very strong season. There was a bit too much Mon El at times, but we had so many great Alex moments, Tyler Hoechlin charming as Superman, great guest stars, the Luthors, and through it all, the always lovely Melissa Benoist who manages to be sweet and self effacing yet always Sells the drama. When Kara cries, you sniffle with her and her smile brightens any scene. if you liked season 1 you might miss Cat and Kara's work at Catco but this season was one of growth for the show and the characters. I just wish they put a bit more for us fans on the Blu Ray discs, Review: An excellent series - A truly excellent follow up to season 1 with Melissa Benoist outstanding as the main character , ably supported by a very good supporting team of very able actors. It is well written and never boring . I look forward to season 3.

Supergirl does it again - Season 2
I love Supergirl and Season 2 was fun again. The Blu Rays have excellent picture and sound quality. Basically if you liked season one, you'll love season two. As you've probably read in other reviews, the show has romance, lots of action and many characters known from the comic books appear. This complete second season set has all 22 episodes spread out over four Blu Ray discs. The episodes on this set are: 01 The Adventures of Supergirl 02 The Last Children of Krypton 03 Welcome to Earth 04 Survivors 05 Crossfire 06 Changing 07 The Darkest Places 08 Medusa 09 Supergirl Lives 10 We Can Be Heroes 11 The Martian Chronicles 12 Luthors 13 Mr and Mrs Mxyzptlk 14 Homecoming 15 Exodus 16 Star-Crossed 17 Distant Sun 18 Ace Reporter 19 Alex 20 City of Lost Children 21 Resist 22 Nevertheless, She Persisted All 22 episodes will presented in 16x9 widescreen Audio: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 English, Subtitles: English SDH, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, Latin Spanish, French, Finnish, Norwegian. Extras: * Supergirl: 2016 Comic-Con Panel * Supergirl: Alien Fight Night * Aliens Among Us * A Conversation with Andrew Kreisberg and Kevin Smith * Audio Commentary on the episode 'Supergirl Lives' Highly recommend! I've just started watching season 3.

A strong second season
This second season of 'Supergirl' continues to be highly entertaining with a great mix of action and comedy. The main plot of this season is the government allowing aliens to live openly on earth, a change that is opposed by the alien-hating Cadmus while also having its own problems. This season also sees the introduction of numerous characters from the comics, with versions of Metallo, Miss Martian, Snapper Carr, Rhea, Parasite, Roulette, Mon-El, Maggie Sawyer, and the Guardian all turning up at various points. We also finally get too properly Clark Kent and Superman, with Tyler Hoechlin giving a great performance as both. As well as this, Lena and Lillian Luthor, Lex’s sister and mother respectively, both have big roles this season. The episodes are all very entertaining and their wasn’t a single one that I didn’t like, even with a greater focus on romance I places, something I normally don’t like. If I had to choose one episode for the season that was my least favourite though, it would probably be 'Alex' (where Kara’s sister gets kidnapped) but even that wasn’t too bad. As for my favourite episodes, they would probably be the ones that lead up to the finale, and the finale itself, as they have some great humour, reasonable action and some emotion at the end too. The CGI used in the series is a little mixed. Most of it is very good, especially the physical and makeup effects, but some of it (often involving the White Martians) looks a little rough to my eyes. The fight choreography is also a bit mixed, with some fights, particularly at the beginning of the season, being a little awkward and lacklustre. The acting in the series is probably as good as it was in the first series with Calista Flockhart remaining the best as Cat Grant at the beginning and end of the season. The season box set has some interesting special features with my favourites being 'Alien Fight Night' (about the fight club episode Survivors), 'Aliens Among Us' (about aliens coming out into the open this season), and the 'Did You Know?' shorts (that have some interesting behind the scenes information). Overall, I feel that this second season is worth at least four and a half stars.

Aliens among us
Supergirl investigates a crashed spaceship and the arrival of Lex Luther's sister Lena Luther. Picking up where season 1 left off, with the arrival of new characters Mon El, Lena and Lillian Luther, the adopted sister and mother of Lex Luther, a female white Martian, and guest appearances from Superman. Lex Luther is only seen in flashback as a teenager. A huge crossover between all the DC TV universe shows starts though the other episodes aren't avaliable here they'll be in their own show's boxsets or in the DC Invasion DVD and another seperate crossover with The Flash, part 2 of that crossover only on The Flash season 3 DVD boxset. Teri Hatcher, a former Lois Lane guest stars as one of the series main villains, Rhea, towards the end of season 2 in an alien invasion plot, with 90's action TV hero Kevin Sorbo as her husband, Dean Cain, formerly Superman in 90's TV series Lois And Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman which also starred Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane returns as Kara's adopted human father with original Supergirl Helen Slater as her adopted mother and Linda Carter returns as the President Of The United States while Tyler Hoechin is crying out for his own series as Superman with an excellent performance appearing in both the season opener and finale. The series is growing in confidence and improving with it's aliens among us plot making it very different to other DC shows or Marvel shows too come to think of it with Melissa Benoist doing an excellent job as Supergirl.

Season 2 of Supergirl is wonderful
I liked Season 1 of Supergirl but I think that the second is much much better. I like that it's centered in Kara's life as an alien and all the people she has in her life. The best addition, in my opinion, was Mon-El as I find him a very interesting character, and his relationship with Kara so sweet and funny. I definitely want more of him in season 3. Alex and Winn's development are wonderful too. So much fun. I loved the extra with the producers "Aliens around us" and the commentary of episode 9 with his director Kevin Smith as it was one of my favourite episodes and it provided a lot of insight. The DVD provides a link to be able to stream or download all episodes, which is handy to be used during travels or commutes. The only things that would have made this DVD absolutely perfect would be the deleted scenes and the gag reel. I would have paid a lot to get that.

Super
Brilliant second series to a brilliant first series of supergirl. Superman also appears in 4 episodes of this series and to see them both together pure brilliant. Lynda Carter also plays the president. Supergirl and her friends take on an array of villains.

Almost Completes the Collection
The stories are pretty much out of this world. I have seen all of season 1 hence getting more of the series. Special effects are great in each of the episodes - it's good to see that they did not skimp on these.
