Little Red Riding Hood (Usborne Picture Books)

Great Book!! My kid loves reading this one and flipping open and close the flap is so much fun when developing the reading habit !

Perfect little book

The book is great for kids it doesn't really follow the original tale that everyone grew up with.

This has been slightly updated which seems ok I guess in this PC world, grandchildren love it, oldest reads it to younger sibling

Not did only the books come in excellent condition. But a all time favourite. A lovely read

...indeed, this is quite a twist on the original ~ a theme that is currently 'on trend' ~ so I was surprised to see that it is a 2012 publication! The tale strays quite far, IMO, and it worries me that folks searching simply on ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ will not realise that from the product title ~ the devil is in the detail fairly low down 'the blurb' (at the time of writing). Speaking of the word ‘realise’…the spelling is ‘realizing’, here. From the back cover: 🐺~ ‘Oh Granny, what big ears you have! says Little Red Riding Hood. "All the better to hear you with." snaps back the wolf. Enjoy finding out how Little Red Riding Hood outwits the wolf, in this 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐤𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 of the classic fairy tale.’ 🐺 ooOoo Measuring roughly 25 cm square, the card cover opens to 24 shiny-finish pages; this version of the tale running over 22 in double-page spread format. I am not a lover of fancy fonts in books aimed at 'little ones', and this one is quite irritating to my eye + hard to read on the darker backgrounds, starting with the first couple of sentences. I am relieved that it was bought for research purposes rather than for our reading corner (and was ‘on sale’ at the time of my order)! Having said that, the oldies around here get the intended humour (Brussels sprout soup, anyone?) and the illustrations, by Mike Gordon ~ although on the sketchier side ~ offer scope for further discussion. The text, which includes speech, is sometimes 𝗕𝗢𝗟𝗗𝗘𝗥, for effect, e.g.: ~ ‘𝐎𝐰!’ ~ ’𝐀𝐫𝐠𝐡’ ~ ‘𝐎𝐨𝐟!’ ~ '𝐓𝐀𝐏!','𝐓𝐀𝐏!','𝐓𝐀𝐏!' ~ ‘𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐄' [SPOILER: Grandmother + LRRH both get gobbled up, only to be released with a 'snippety-snip', as the wolf, after a bit of a stitch-up, carries on in life as a vegetarian!]

Brought for my nephew, he loved it
