27026 Three Jaw Chuck for The Lathe DB 250

This is a great little chuck. It is well made, accurate and holds the work securely. I was a little confused as to why two of the jaws had two sets of numbers on them before I realised that they can be taken out and fitted in backwards, in a different slot! Overall a great addition to my lathe.

A must if you are considering the Proxxon DB250 well made and very handy, the little levers for tightening or loosening the jaws a a pain sometimes but you do get used to them. very happy with it

The main thing I don't like is something another reviewer also mentioned: the Proxxon DB250 lathe starts at a speed which makes this very heavy chuck jerk the whole machine. I don't know if this will effect the longevity of the machine, but I think continued use might do. Only time will tell. Obviously starting at a much slower speed would solve this problem. The chuck works fine with soft woods like basswood etc. You can get away with a light grip and not mark the wood at all. But with hardwood, I have tighten it much more (I'm using beech), otherwise the piece will fly off. This will leave dents so you'll have to work with extra clearance. The jaws are only about 1cm deep, fine with small diameters as you can use the hole that extends into the length of the machine. But if working over say 20mm+, 1cm is the grip depth. I actually find the face plate much more secure than the chuck. Which is a shame as the chuck is more convenient. One other issue I have are the jaws. They protrude out when turning larger diameters 15mm+, and there's nothing to protect you, these are pretty sharp and dangerous if you get caught. The jaws also have a tendency to jam on occasion, I have to push them along when securing a piece. For the reasons above I don't use the chuck as much as I want to. I'll probably reserve it for end work only. This hasn't turned out to be as user friendly as I thought, so unfortunately it's 3 stars.

Solid and well made. Robustly holds the piece of wood in the jaws.

Enables mini lathe to be more flexible.

Works in the mini lathe fine but with a ring mandrel protruding 50mm from the chuck, the end of the rod is off centre by 1mm resulting in a 2mm wobble making it useless for ring making. Checked on other rods just in case it was the mandrel but no, it was the chuck.

does what it is supposed to do , very happy with it. Mine worked well right out of the box no adjustments needed
