Can you charge the pen with the case on?

The short answer is NO. However, it doesn't matter as the PEN does not need to be charged (according to Kindle's own information in the Scribe's listing). An aside, I really like this case. It's much cheaper than Amazon's offering and opens like a book as opposed to a primary school notepad.

Lighter than official Amazon Scribe cover?

No it is heavier than the Amazon cover but definitely more functional for reading

How to clean the black cover surface -- especially removing fingerprints?

I have been successful just using a moist paper towel, not too wet, just damp! For food or fingerprints I have also used a warm damp paper towel with a touch of dish soap! Do not use alcohol or it will remove the image!

Does it give off an odor?

No, mine does not give off any type of odor whatsoever.
