Simple plug n play
This works brilliantly. It easily attaches to the back of the tv making it discreet with no messy cables on view. It’s also so quiet, you can’t hear the disc spinning. As it is already formatted for TV, it literally is plug and play. As soon as I plugged it in, it installed itself and was good to go in seconds. Even though my LG tv has dual tuners (Freeview and Freesat), it’s not possible to record one channel whilst watching another. Or, I haven’t figured out how to do this yet! The hard drive works well with both Freeview Play and Freesat. It’s great value for money, offering a cost effective alternative to a set top box. I recommend this highly!

For pause live TV and rewind etc great works well
WD 500GB Passport AV-TV Using with Panasonic 900 series top end 4K TV. For pause live TV and rewind etc great works well. For recording can record 2 programmes at once (cannot watch a third channel but this is a limitation of the TV not this unit). Cannot record a program and pause live TV at the same time but again, a limitaion of the TV not this unit. Overall, very happy with this device primarily bought for pausing live TV as I have alternate recording facilities. I should add no noticable diffences from the origanal picture to the recorded one and the same when TV has been paused. I would recommend this product but check your TV capability before purchase especiaslly if you need it for recording and pausing live TV at the same time. A good price and as always agreat service and free delivery service with Amazon Prime

Connecting to a 2018/19 SONY AF9 OLED TV with WD My Passport TV-AV 1TB HDD
HDD arrived yesterday and was connected to the correct socket on the new Sony TV (USB 3.0 HDD RECORD. TV said HDD not recognised!! After some research our solution was to use a Windows PC to reformat the WD HDD. It was factory formatted by WD using a FAT 32 file system, a system which does work for many TVs. However, despite what the Sony AF9 literature implied, the 1TB drive formatted under FAT32 was not being recognised. As we had access to a windows PC rather than returning the HDD to Amazon our solution was: 1. Use the PC to reformat the whole 1TB HDD to an NTFS file system using the windows default formatting settings. 2. MOST IMPORTANT - Before reconnecting the HDD to the TV, turn on the TV to DISABLE the YOUVIEW application. This is found in [HOME -> SETTINGS -> CHANNEL SETUP -> YOUVIEW SETUP]. Turn off the TV. 3. Connect the reformatted HDD drive to the correct USB 3.0 "HDD recording" socket on the TV. Turn the TV on and wait around 1 minute for the HDD to fully start up and stabilise. Success......our 1TB HDD drive was recognised and the appropriate simple TV setup menu was displayed!. But read on Sony AF9 owners ...….. 4. Whenever you want to use the HDD drive to record programmes, the YOUVIEW application must be DISABLED. It seems forward programme recording has to be set up using the underlying Freeview Programme Guide. The Sony YOUVIEW app is about easy access to the main catch up services such as iplayer and the ITV hub. As other SONY AF9 owners have found, if enabled, the YOUVIEW application disables a number of the TV functions and facilities, most notably the ability to store Satellite Channels! It also causes issues when the TV finds new terrestrial channels and prompts you to confirm the region settings! It seems you have to disable YOUVIEW to do it! Good luck.....! We have a number of WDD drives connected to our home network which have worked well. Now we have got the My Passport TV-AV drive to work with the TV, that WD quality will continue. Note to anyone with a Sony AF9 TV which runs the YOUVIEW application. In our experience th 1. Do not connect the HDD drive to the Sony TV before DISABLING the YOUVIEW application. Then Turn off the TV. 2. Check that you have connected the WD HDD with their supplied lead to the correct port on the TV. 3. Turn on the TV and see if the HDD is recognised. My WD HDD drive wasn't but if yours is, just follow the on screen instructions. I received the usual error messages you might expect, and none were helpful. 4. Manuals and Web support for both the TV and WD HDD were at best unhelpful! WD Europe Support Toll Free number in the literature was unobtainable! 5. Connected the WD HDD drive to our Windows 10 PC and checked the formatting of the HDD. It was set up by WD using the FAT 32 system. Sony literature said this was one of the 4 recognised file systems for their AF90 TV. 4. Use the wReformat I

Great Recording Device for new Samsung TV (2021)
Hi! I already had a 'standard' WD Passport Hard Drive which I used on my old Samsung 8000 Series TV. When the TV died, I purchased a new Samsung QE50Q60A (2021). When I plugged my 'standard' Passport into the new TV it wasn't recognised so I couldn't watch any of my recordings or record anything new. I read online that my old Passport would need to be formatted differently to work with the new TV, but I didn't want to delete all my recordings. So, I purchased this new WD Passport AV-TV for use on my new Samsung TV. I read somewhere online that this would not work on Samsung TV's but decided to give it a go as the price was relatively cheap. Happily it did work! I plugged it into the new Samsung TV and it recognised it immediately. I was prompted to complete a 'speed test' and format, after which it worked perfectly. No need for a separate power supply as it powers direct from the TV USB Port. I've recorded two films off the TV in HD and my good lady has recorded around ten episodes of Corrie in HD, and the Passport still has 97% capacity available. The AV-TV also comes with a little Bracket and Bolts to mount it onto the back of the TV using the recessed 'wall mount' fixings. I found that the 8mm Bolt supplied for my TV wasn't quite long enough to reach the recessed thread on my TV, but being a Heating Engineer I soon found a suitable replacement rattling round in my Van! It's a brilliant little Drive which I would highly recommend! I hope this review helps answer any questions or reservations you may have. Andy

Just what I wanted!
Bought this for the TV in my bedroom (LG 32 inch), I looked at several external hardrives and decided on this one. The first reason is that it is designed specifically for using with TV's, the second reason was that it has good reviews, the third reason was that it has a bracket that fits to the back of the TV so you can't even see it when watching the TV, (see pictures), the fourth reason was the plug and play, so easy to set up, and last, don't need a mains socket as it plugs directly into a USB socket on your TV for power. Would I recommend this hard drive, absolutely,

Excellent for TV recording!
I've had three other 1TB HDD's for us with a bedroom TV (Sony 32) and they have been gobbled up by the near constant running of the drive, 'ordinary' HDD's don't seem to be able to come up with the goods in the TV / AV environment? I've used Samsung and WD before but they have all failed well before the warrant expired and were very noisy in operation, not good in the bedroom at silly o'clock in the morning. You can tell this AV specific drive is the real deal, it makes hardly any noise (1% of the others) and never misses a beat, it work well with the TV and I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Fast and useful
Works OK with SAMSUNG UE32J5600 TV. The manual suggests any USB drive with minimum 5400rpm, but I read some forums which advised getting a drive designed specifically for streaming / recording. I read the reviews on Amazon and liked that this drive is not noisy. I have read that ATA-7 AV devices are not suitable for use with PCs, but I have not had a problem swapping between TV and PC, and it is formatted NTFS, and very fast.

Does not work for Panasonic TV
I saw a review saying it was perfect for Panasonic TV's. It isn't. It certainly doesn't work properly on my new top of the range 65 inch Panasonic 902 4k TV. It pauses live TV, etc. but when you are actually recording a TV programme, it creates other problems. 1. You cannot use live pause/rewind functions on another channel when recording. 2. While recording a Freeview channel, and going to a Freesat channel, there is just a blank screen. The only way to get the channel back, is to go up a channel, and come back down to the channel you want. Hardly convenient. 3. Could not get it to record two channels at once either. Tried plugging it into a usb 2 socket, and it said it was recording 2 channels, but it was actually recording none. Caused my TV to freeze completely. Not compatible at all. Most disappointing, and it's going back.
