Can I attach a cell phone to this?

You probably could if you had the proper cell phone attachment that allows you to screw into the base plate of the rig. I wouldn't see why it couldn't work

How do you keep your camera rig to the side when assembled to this. Our rig keeps falling side to side

I’ve only used with an iPhone so wonder if the weight of your camera is the difference. Make sure everything is tightened up and in a pinch you may need to stabilize the rod with your hand. The company itself has great customer service and you can call them for help even if you purchased it on Amazon.
