This CLOCK IS MINT!
I do a lot of research before I buy anything, too much in fact ha ha. I've just got back off Holiday with this clock, it is superb. It has hard plastic cover to protect it in your suitcase while travelling. Really small & light. Night light is great, that is so annoying when not got a bedside clock on holiday, to constantly press your phone light to see the time when u should be kipping. You can see the clock time so easy in the night with a quick glance. The light don't eat the batteries, 2 weeks later I'm trialing mine & batteries still going strong with night light on. It has a really bright flash light on which u have to press to keep on, & I used this brilliantly when I had to alter the air con in the night as missus moaning it was too hot, so I took the clock to the air-con controls, works like a good torch without putting the apartment lights on blaring in your eyes. Only very slight negative, alarm isn't really noisy, it will wake you up, but if you have earplugs in, you may not hear it, but a lot of us have our phone alarms we can use the odd time, for when we are away. The best travel alarm clock I could find that had the very important night light on, perfect size, weight everything.

Clear but
I have brought two of these now and both of them the back, the clear plastic that you use to stand it up with has broken which is annoying because I like the clock. It was useful with the torch function as it is a bright light. The clock is light weight and doesn't take up much room in the suitcases. The screen is clear and easy to read on the dark but to be honest the fact the two have broken and my phone does the same job I won't be replacing them.

Very good alarm clock
I had one of these excellent Acctim alarm clocks before - the bad news was that after many years and many trips overseas the stand broke but the good news is that the same model is still available so no hesitation in ordering another. Plus points are it's very clear and easily readable screen, the loud crescendo alarm, it's easy to set up the time & alarm and with the alarm set the display will have a low level backlight permanently on meaning not having to reach out for buttons to find out what time it is. It has a torch facility too, albeit low light level but still very useful

Efficient travel alarm, good value for money
This is a straightforward alarm clock, easy to set time and alarm, the backlight is on when you set the alarm for the morning and goes off when you turn the alarm off. It is easy to see the time with the backlight on but if the alarm is not set you have to press in the button on the face of the clock which can be a bit fiddly. The stand doubles up as a cover flapping over the controls at the front which is very clever but this stand does seem a little flimsy but time will tell!! i have had this clock over a month but not long enough yet to be sure about the stand surviving. So far I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to a friend looking for a value for money alarm that can be used for travel and daily use.

Battery clock with permanent night light
I wanted a small battery powered clock that was permanently visible at night. I was intrigued how this would be achieved with battery power - possibly some special low power glow in the dark LCD technology? Nope! It appears to have just a bog standard LED, which as well as illuminating the front LCD can also be shone out of the rear of the clock (via a sliding aperture) dimly or brightly, allowing it to be used as a nightlight or flashlight respectively. My first thought was, 'What about battery life?'. The instructions leaflet says that with 8 hrs use per day the batteries (3xAAA) should last 18 months. (Seems optimistic to me, so I've decided to use rechargeables). In fact, the permanent light is employed by setting the clock to Alarm ON. So under 'normal' use you switch it on when you go to bed and off when it wakes you in the morning. So yes, the light would typically be used approx 8 hrs per day. The clock is conveniently travel sized and also has 12/24 hr setting, a Snooze/Light button (which can be used to manually illuminate the LCD if Alarm ON is not set) and has a transparent cover which doubles as a stand. There don't seem to be many battery alarm clocks with the permanent light feature - this is the only one I could find. I'm very satisfied with my purchase. Update: Having now used the clock for over 2 years, I can say that the battery life is not an issue at all. I have only needed to swap my (rechargeable) batteries once or maybe twice. However, there's a very minor problem in that the labels next to the function switch have worn away somewhat due to daily finger contact when enabling/disabling the alarm. Otherwise, excellent product.

Perfect travel clock
Needed a travel clock that has a lit up face so I don't have to keep pushing a light to read the time. This was perfect- it is back lit and the numbers are large enough that it can be easily read if yuo wake during the night. YES as some have pointed out, it is only back lit if you have the alarm switched on- that was no problem- I set the Alarm for Midday as I was on holiday - and turn it off when I awoke. As this turns the light off, and saves the battery. It just needed to slide the switch back on before bed every night and it was back lit again. Very light and has a protective cover when travelling that doubles as the stand. Perfect.

Great concept but has its limitations
First let me point out that the product description is incorrect. It refers to a "Smartlite®" sensor that automatically turns the backlight off and on according to the ambient light level. This feature is in fact only found on other Acctim backlit alarm clock models, NOT the 13253. The backlight on the 13253 is controlled manually (and in a cumbersome way, unfortunately). While I love the central concept of this piece, the 'permanent' backlight, there are two major issues. One is that the light can only be active when the alarm is switched on (as others here have noted). So if you don't want the alarm set but do want the backlight, you're stuffed, unless you fiddle it by setting a 'dummy' alarm for a mid-afternoon time, say (and then hope to remember to switch it off once you've woken up!). All this faff when all that's really needed is a separate backlight on/off switch - which would also suit those who want to set the alarm but who *don't* want the backlight on for whatever reason. (Are you listening Acctim?!) The second problem is build quality. I guess for the price I wasn't expecting massive durability, but alas the clock lasted just one trip abroad in the luggage hold of an aircraft. The main switch, which protudes from the unit slightly hence isn't protected in transit, wasn't working properly after my return, rendering the product unusable. But if your need is for a backlit clock that isn't expected to be thrown around inside a plane, the 13253 could still be worthwhile. The crescendoing alarm sound and the snooze feature work very well in practice. The clear display - uncluttered by superfluous info such as temperature - is easily viewable from most angles. In fact, I like it to the extent I immediately bought a replacement for the one that got damaged.

Would be great - if the light worked!
Things didn't start out too well - the instructions for this Made in China clock were very poor. The first instruction was: "remove the battery cover" but the leaflet, which clearly numbered every other feature, failed to show where that might be and how, once found, one should go about opening it. Incidentally, batteries aren't included so, once you've figured out how to get into it, have 3 x AAA handy. I ordered this alarm clock because, unlike most of those on the market, it offered more or less everything I needed - reasonably small, a folding travel case, a clear digital display that lights up all night... rewind: a display that SHOULD light up all night! Alas, the light didn't work - I could make it flash occasionally but, despite every effort, it wouldn't stay on. If something doesn't work first time, the manufacturer's quality control is obviously poor and a replacement was therefore unlikely to be any better; I returned it for refund.

Love this clock
I like this clock because it is the right illumination to see in the dark.

Great stay on light at night
Great stay on light at night. No need to fumble for button to turn light on, just open your eyelids and you can see the time.

Réveil portable
réveil bien concu mais j'ai un peur peur que le plastique -servant à le protéger lors du transport- soit un peu fragile par contre, je m'attendais à des chiffres plus gros...j ai été un peu déçue sur ce point

Poor light design
I bought it for the Smartlight which another version of the same clock is visible all the time. This one is only visible when you have the alarm set and only good for eight hours. Really a poor design
