Wampler Pedals Plexi-Drive Deluxe V2 Distortion/Overdrive Effects Pedal

I have no issue with the Plexi side of this pedal, other than the annoying low level rustle like hiss which sounds exactly like EXH pedals. I previously tried the Tone City Golden Plexi and that thing was a total fizz machine. The Wampler, as you'd expect does a much better job but the biggest let down is the Pre Amp boost which is supposed give something along the lines of a tube screamer to drive the Plexi side harder. A Tube Screamer has a gain knob, as well as level and tone. All of this is combined in to one knob on this pedal and if I do say so myself not very well. Its not uncommon to use a TS in the off position to just get some light breakup, if you switch the preamp gain to this low a setting the signal practically disappears. Also as you increase the preamp gain the level of distortion increases along with some quite unpleasant treble. If you want a Plexi pedal then the non deluxe version would be my advice and save some space on your pedal board. Or, use the spare coin from buying the regular version to add a TS mini.
