Befits its reputation
It's one of the most-cited books in social sciences for a reason: It's extremely good. Profound for its length, you'll come out of this with a new appreciation for how much room there is to grow in the teaching world. Good to read over a cup of coffee.

Politics, passion and pedagogy
I have been meaning to read this for years, and am glad I did, although I found it so difficult to understand. There are gems of wisdom that are really worth discovering in the morass of challenging text. I canโt imagine someone reading this book if they are not in tune with the politics, the passion and the reasoning. For me, the coherent arguments against capitalism, the insistence on genuine revolution and on equity, and the value placed on pedagogy, are spot on. Every time I see it, I smile at the cover design on my Penguin copy, which features the barrel of a gun replaced with a short, stubby, knife-sharpened pencil, tied on with twine. I love the symbolism of this. It made me put the book in my โto readโ list long before I knew who Paulo Freire was and what he stands firmly for. Next I will read Pedagogy of Hopeโฆ

Very relevant to our present intercultural dynamic with the racial tendencies that permeate our diversities

A must read.
A classic emancipatory text. Useful to the powerless and the (genuinely well intentioned) powerful - to form a critical consciousness in pursuit of a more humanist reality. Requires a basic understanding of Hegel and Marx (dialectic history).

Invaluable for educators and people who care about education.
As someone who tries to be a good teacher, I've found a lot of goodness and solid practice in Pedagogy of the Oppressed. I was exposed to it through Augusto Boal's Theater of the Oppressed, which builds off of the frameworks that Freire lays out. The theory about radicalization and oppression at the beginning can be incredibly dense, to the point of feeling impenitrable. But, once I was able to get past that, I felt like I had a new perspective on my work in a classroom.

School Is A Micro-State
The book greatly critiques the bourgeois education system whose entire duty is to 'train' and not to 'teach'.
