Device works great, but the description of โwhatโs in the boxโ is inaccurate
I have enjoyed LaCrosse products for years, and this advanced wireless weather station is no exception. It works well, easy to set up, and the display is crisp. However, the description of โwhatโs in the boxโ is inaccurate. It states that a power adapter is included. There is no power adapter, and this device runs on batteries only. This should be corrected..

A very practical indoor/outdoor weather station
La Cross 308-1417 We've had a battery powered LCD indoor/outdoor weather station for nearly 20 years. Wanting an upgraded station, we moved the original to the back room. To stay with battery power, the La Cross 308-1417 was perfect a perfect fit. It displays, very clearly, barometric pressure, indoor/outdoor temperature, relative humidity and forecast icons. Setup was simple and quick. Acquisition of outdoor sensor and atomic clock signals took 5 minutes. It is very easy to read all the information from 10 feet away. With simple styling, it looks good on the coffee table. While we haven't had this long enough to evaluate battery life, something to remember (for those who complain about that): Keep the outdoor sensor close by without electronic equipment or metal components between the two. Keep away from a router or other electronic emitting devices. These overwork the transmitter/reciever. Hunting for the sensor and time signals drain the batteries very quickly. Our original station batteries would last for 5 years in the same location. No reason to think this will be less. If you want outlet power (with adapter and cord), a color display or wind and rain gauge, you will pay five to ten times more. But for $35, this is a very practical tradeoff. We've had this for just over 5 years and it still functions. But, it no longer updates for daylight savings time (it's very accurate otherwise). And, the outdoor sensor has started going a little crazy, reporting 10 - 20โฐ high in the daytime (not in the direct sun) but is very accurate at night.

Read the fine print UPDATED
Update 2 - I've put it thru its paces and I am now satisfied. When placed next to each other, the inside and outside units agree exactly on temperature and within 4% on humidity. I checked the temperature against a Fisher Scientific thermometer that I know to be accurate and they agree within 1 degree F. Both the temperature and humidity agree well with Weather Underground stations within a mile of me. My comparisons were done with temperatures 60 F +/- and humidity in the 28 to 38% range. I can't speak to conditions outside of that general range. Read the fine print. The instructions that come in the box says that the temperature range is fronm 32 - 99 F. Really? The temp accuracy is +/- 2 C which is about 3.5 F. I can guess the temperature within that range. I'm sending it back. UPDATE - My bad. The Inside unit is 32-99. The Outside unit is -40 to +140. Specified accuracy is still a bit iffy. I'll try it and review again.

Now that my anger about the packaging has subsided, it is a pretty good clock.
The 5 stars are for the clock itself. My rating for the sadist who glued the screws in that held it in the packaging wouldn't get any stars, except the ones he/she would see after I kicked the stuffing out of him/her. BUT, back to the clock ... + It is a good size for reading. + I view it at an angle, but the data is still fuly readable. + It takes three AA batteries instead of AAA, so they will last longer. + I love that it indicates the humidity inside as well as ouside. + it was easy to initially set up. I am in a location that radio signals barely reach, so I cannot depend on the atomic clock to set it. - I hope that the way the packaging screws were embedded into this one was an anomaly, and that yours unscrews easily. It took me 55 minutes to get it them out, and I have just about every hand tool made. I finally ended up nibbling away the bizarre plastic washer so that I could grip the screw head with a pair of wire cutters and break the bond to the plastic housing. Had I been able to get teh multiple layers of cardboard out from under them, I would have just left them in. I was NOT happy, but now that I am using the clock, I have calmed down.

Accuracy is appreciated
I purchased and returned a previous weather station due to inaccuracy. This product however, has been very accurate for both inside and outside. It is very close to the readings on my house HVAC system.

Easy to set up; displays a lot of info.
This unit was easy to set up. I highly recommend purchasing the separate sensor shield if the location for your sensor sometimes is visited by squirrels or chipmunks. The largest numbers on the display report outside temperature, with indoor temps in a smaller font. Some may find that counterintuitive. The info. displays are clear and unambiguous. This unit replaced another LaCrosse unit whose sending unit stopped working. (The main unit was working fine, and I was surprised LaCrosse didn't stock replacement sensor units for "retired" models, at least for a year or so.) My only disappointment is that unlike that previous unit, this one doesn't retain the highest and lowest temperatures until you reset them. (It was interesting on New Years Day to see what the minimum and maximum temperatures had been during the past year.)

โฆbut itโs accurateโฆ
I really like this now that Iโve got it figured out. The time, temp, and humidity are accurate. It is small but very bold and legible. It is not backlit so you cannot see it in the dark. Now the problem is the barometer which is completely ill designed, though accurate. You must read it from right to left. The pressure is displayed in intervals. The furthest right position is 0 hours - the current time and measurement. You are able to tell if the pressure is increasing or decreasing by reading the curve as a whole with each bar representing the past starting at the right. There is no other plus or minus indication. Poorly conceived and difficult to understand. But accurate.

A great buy
The best feature of this station is it works on rechargeable batteries since Dec 8 2024. Still running June 9 2025. The black colour layout is very easy to read from almost any angle and 12' or more. Weather predictions are accurate too.

Quality has fallen
I owned a La Crosse for 15+ Years until it failed this summer. Very disappointed with the quality and functionality of the replacement- not a patch on my old La Crosse. They appear to be cutting corners properly to save on costs.

Love this product. Has the features I look for, and works great.
I had a previous LaCrosse model I had purchased 15 years ago. It worked well and from my experience with it I knew which features I liked. In addition to the basic indoor/outdoor temp and humidity, I like that it shows barometric pressure, both current and a graph showing the trend, and it has the automatic time signal that keeps the clock sync'ed with the atomic clock at NOA in Colarado. I live in Toronto and the time signal works reliably, over night each night. This new model has those features and I found it is much easier to set up. The sync with the outside transmitter was simple. This unit does not have a colour display, but that means it can operate effectively on batteries, and does not require an AC adapter. That works very well for where I have it placed. My one (very minor) complaint is the clock does not display the seconds.
