How strong us this sword? Could is be used to hit and slice objects?

the blade is quite strong but the handle will snap off. It is a 8 inch piece of 1/4 inch thick rod welded on the end and covered with plastic. Display only. You can not fight with it. and sadly it will not help you bring back the glory of Rome.

Is the blade of the sword smooth enough to be engraved?

You could engrave it, but the middle of the blade already has a pattern etched in it. The outer edges of the blade might work?
