I Wanted To Read This In One Sitting- it's That Good

I am a retired educator and a long-time hiker. This book ticked all of the boxes for me. If you have read Wild by Strayed you will most likely enjoy this book. I loved the rich descriptions of the people and places that the author came across on her journey. I also love the authenticity of each entry- they were not overly fussy or rewritten until they were perfected. Some of my takeaways are that the author is a serious badass hiker who inspired me to go out on a quest of my own, and we Americans have a lot more in common then we hear about on the nightly news. I am hoping that the author continues writing as she has a unique perspective of the world.

Inspiring

This young rider was from Derby, Kansas, and just recently was hiking in Yellowstone Park, and was found later, having been killed by a bear and Cubs doing what she loved. I had heard of her book before, but I hadn’t purchased it. I have now, and I look forward to reading the rest of it. She was an amazing, inspiring person Both as a teacher and a traveler. Rest in Peace

Good account

I thought I might dislike this book after listening to the writer vent about her occupation. But after the initial venting I enjoyed her account of extended walking journey. In fact I came to admire her as she continued to walk, document, and explain herself. This is a very honest and straight forward account it seems, and as a bonus it contains some very good living advice . you won't be disappointed.

Weary teachers and wanna be hikers.....A GREAT ESCAPE!

I have read several accounts of hikers walking the Appalachian Trail and the Pacific Coast Trail... this was the first time to read a book about hiking the ADT. These books are always fascinating .... the endurance and logistics involved in attempting such a feat are mind boggling! Yet...what made this book unique was the author's personal reflections ....interspersed throughout her daily journal enties on the challenges of teaching reluctant learners in America's current educational system. Being an educator myself... I felt a camaraderie with the author as I read of her frustrations and her determination to not let the system restrict her quest to set high academic and behavioral standards for all of her students. I highly recommend this book to educators, parents, or anyone who dreams of changing their life direction.... Great read!

Truthful and Often Funny - A Very Good Read

A very good read for anyone (particularly educators) who thought about taking a sabbatical from the academic grind only to discover a whole new world by walking across America. A day by day, often funny, account of a journey like no other.

Walking Out

Very good reading. Not only Amies adventures as a woman exploring the countryside alone, but her reflections of teaching in the public school in today’s world. Would highly recommend to someone thinking about hiking or a teacher that needs comradery with the job of teaching today’s youths.

Walking Out

It’s kind of interesting but just rambles on with no structure. Some interesting tidbits. It didn’t hold my interest but I’ll probably keep plugging away to find the few rare gems.
