The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild The Complete Official Guide: -Expanded Edition

I bought this book back in 2020 while playing through BOTW and it is worth its weight in rupees. While I do enjoy the challenge of discovering and working through things on my own, I appreciate having a crutch. Listen, once upon a time I’d never think to reach for the book and scroll through its glossy, illustrative and detailed pages for a hint. However! I’m a grown man with nothing to prove and less and less time on my hands. While working full time + OT and managing a kiddo at home, it’s not even close to my intention to spend a shameful amount of time figuring something out. I particularly appreciated the recipe book and found it very helpful. Well a finished BOTW while my daughter was a wee little one and am thankful to have had the assistance of the book when needed. I’m now finally getting to TOTK as she’s nearing 3. I’ll be damned if I’m not buying Piggyback’s guidebook for that as well. I remember reading several reviews prior to purchase that the text was too small. I cannot deny that the text is smaller than I would call ideal but it’s absolutely legible to an average eye. Only other slight hiccup I can recall is being slightly disappointed when the book arrived with a few dings and a tear on the spine. Probably not the sellers fault at all and a shipping issue, it still reads just fine!! Not only is this book very detailed, contains MANY useful images (even if they are screenshots! Guess what? You’re going to see the same thing on your screen!! It’s as if this book is intended to help guide you through the game. Oh wait….) This book is ART and will always be a wonderful momento.

Words cannot describe how well done this guide is. this is on par with the guides from future press, and that is saying a lot. My favorite guidebook ever was the one for Bloodborne, but the BOTW guide by Piggyback, rivals that masterpiece as well. I cannot stress enough how impressed I was with this guide. Considering the hit or miss quality of most of the prima guides, it's refreshing to see one so comprehensive and exhuastive. The first thing that stands out to me is the index and table of contents. it's hard to find guide books nowadays with a good index or TOC, even books half the size of this struggle to include anything but the barest of content lists. I knew as soon as I opened the book and saw the table of contents that this was going to be a good book. it starts out with a primer and introduction to the basic systems and gameplay mechanics, then goes into the walkthrough for the main story line. the sidequests are organized into a seperate section, along with the shrines and other compendiums. While has maps with subsections of different areas, it also includes a poster that shows the locations of all treasures and Karok seeds. I'm so impressed with the organization of this guide. The strategies are effective and obviously tested. Instead of the vague methods to attack certain enemies listed in other guides, this one gives you step by step instructions about how to beat them. it goes through the enemy move list and how to counter them and offers suggestions as to what weapons and armor you will need to compete. This is definitely a guide that's setup for on demand help. If I'm looking for the resources needed to upgrade a certain armor set, or tips on a tricky part of a shrine, I can quickly find the information without having to read through half a section. This tome has all the information you need to succeed in the game. At over 500 pages, Piggybacks BOTW guide is a massive tome. But the game itself is just as big and it's so refreshing to see a guide that is worthy of the game. If you are looking for a guide book for Breath of the Wild, look no no further. An impressive, comprehensive and complete work, it is something every Breath of the Wild player needs to experience along their journey.

I have both the hardbound Collector's Edition of the original Breath of the Wild Guide and the hardbound expanded guide with additional content. I love them both, think they're beautiful, reference them each for different things, and do not regret their purchase one instant. But. People are human, and the guides are not completely comprehensive. Nintendo is a company of delightfully talented individuals that number in the hundreds (if not thousands) and they are just too good to make it so that anyone can find everything. A fully comprehensive guide may never be written! So don't be afraid to explore further beyond what was detailed, even in the expanded/corrected guide, and try new things that they don't mention. Don't be shy to add post-its to your guide. :) In particular, make sure to look for extra goodies in the Divine Beasts. There are some particularly persnickety chests and they have prizes to match. Sometimes these were caught in the upgraded/expanded guide... sometimes not. You will also find the boss fights to be very different experiences if you take your cues from what you find in the chests in each Divine Beast. I love these guides so much, they are beautiful, full, and rich, and I have permanent bookmarks in both for certain sections that I reference the most. You cannot beat them, they're the perfect companion to Breath of the Wild and are spoiler-free in that you can choose to follow the storyline OR you can just look up the specific quests/shrines/references you want without having the rest spelled out for you. If you want to advance the story, go read that section. If you'd rather have a tour guide, then just open up the shrine section and do them one by one! Want to do mini-games? Then check out the side-quest area! The choices is totally yours!! The index in both guides is particularly nice because if you're stuck on any single quest, you can look up the title from your game's log and then find it in the index to see exactly how to solve that -one- quest. That it shows the entire Hyrule Compendium, every sub-boss, every ingredient and what they do, and (in the expanded edition) has a page-by-page atlas of all Korok seeds (so you don't need to keep unfolding and refolding the beauteous map) is the filling, icing, and topping on the cake. :) Mmm.... hearty fruitcakee... pardon me while I go cook up under a Blood Moon...

I am so happy that I bought this book! A few days after starting BOTW for the first time, I saw this at a store and thought, "wow, that would be great!" but with the $40 price tag I left it on the shelf. Later that day I went on Amazon to look it up... lo and behold it was on sale for $22! I ordered it immediately, and have used it every day since. As a brand new BOTW player this guide has been invaluable. I've heard such wonderful things about this game for years and had a feeling I would love it too, and while that was true from the start, I still found myself very overwhelmed by just how vast this game is. I didn't really know where to start and had a hard time figuring things out on my own since the game offers little in terms of tutorials and whatnot. I was Googling every time I got stuck (which was a lot lol) and while the internet is a great resource, it began to feel like an even grander jigsaw puzzle trying to piece together info from dozens of different articles. Enter this book, and my gaming life has changed. It has just about everything I could need and more. The primer in the beginning was fabulous with all the tips about combat, environmental factors, etc, and all of the other chapters about specifics in the game are amazing. I seriously would have never figured out some of those shrines and side quests without this guide, or anything else for that matter lol. My gameplay has improved ten fold since buying this book and I'm enjoying BOTW more than I would without it, surely. I have the book open on my desk every single time I play now. And the MAP! The map is wonderful. I haven't unlocked the whole map in the game yet, so having a paper copy to refer to is really helpful. It's a little cumbersome to open/fold up every time, but honestly there's something about having a physical copy that's easier to look at than "interactive" maps online sometimes so I'm not bothered by it. As far as the physical aspects of the book go, I'm happy with the copy I got. I saw a lot of reviewers had issues with damage, and the top right corner of mine is a little bent from transit but otherwise the book is in really good shape. I agree that the text could be bigger too, but with the whole book at a whopping 500+ pages I understand why it's so small. I don't see any issues with the pictures either, they're good enough quality for me and show what I need. If there's anything I want to see a little more in depth I still turn to the internet, but overall the book is my first and usually last resource every time. And of course, the cover is beautiful too--it'll be a great display/collector's piece for whenever I'm finished with it. To sum up this long review, I couldn't be more pleased. This guide is worth every penny of the $22 I paid, and after cracking it open and seeing all it has to offer, it's worth the full $40 price tag too. I foresee myself enjoying BOTW for a long, long time to come with this book right by my side. And whenever I get to play TOTK, I'll be buying that guidebook too! I'm officially addicted to the Legend of Zelda franchise and this guidebook is partially to thank for it. :)

Zelda Breath of the Wild Fan here! I play this game a few hours nearly every day, and I was amazed at the content! The books is a 1000 pages of good info. Also, there's a map insert that is perhaps the best part of this, as I now use it to locate shrines. Once i find the shrine, I go to the guide when I get stuck on puzzle and it guides me.

I have been a fan of Zelda since the original NES. My favorites are the N64 Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time. I actually had a walk through book for both games when I was younger. I started playing BOTW without a walk through or help guide and would get stuck on quite a few things. I ended up constantly Googling help. I eventually decided to bite the bullet and get the book and WOW! My game play has really advanced. I have noticed some slight discrepancies as I am playing and will sometimes find easier shortcuts to solving some of the puzzles then what the book describes to do but because BOTW is so open I think that to have a book with ALL the information would be way too much. The book can be slightly difficult to navigate at times especially when you first start using it. Because the game isn't really linear in play you are constantly jumping around in the book. I tend to use bookmarks in sections I am constantly frequenting through the game play. It is also a very heavy book and not something you want sitting on your lap or in your way when playing. I keep mine propped up on some throw pillows next to me that I use as an armrest when playing and can flip through it as needed. I was a little disappointed when the book came as it had a dent in the side. I noticed this was a problem with earlier reviews of the book and was primarily due to shipping. I will say the book was packaged correctly with bubble pack but it still had the indentation and so I figure it's more how they store and pack it that is causing the damage. I however did not buy the book as a collectors item but something to be used and therefore it will experience wear and tear anyways so it isn't a huge deal to me. For those that are collectors or want something in pristine condition I would make sure to do a full inspection when you receive the book. Another thing I noted is some of the print is really small and difficult to read. I have perfect reading vision so I know it isn't me and I sometimes have to put my nose up to it to see things. I suppose larger font would mean more pages and a bigger book but it can really be a pain trying to read some things. My final issue with it is the large map that comes with the book. It is actually very helpful especially early on as you locate shrines etc... however it is so thin and because you have to keep opening and closing it and flipping it over it is already starting to rip slightly at some of the seams. Again I use my map and therefore expect some wear and tear but I do wish they had used a sturdier thicker paper for the map. I am very careful with it but because of the large awkward size it's only a matter of time before it is in pieces. If you are a gamer looking for some help this book is great and packed with tons of information. Because the game is so big there is no way I would have found or figured out half of it without the guide. If you are however someone looking to collect I would definitely be cautious about this purchase and give it a thorough inspection when you get it.

Very detailed, amazing in every way

A must have for anyone who is planning to put alot of time into this game and wants to be able to get a detailed walkthrough when getting stuck on shrines and Devine beasts and so much more. Especially if you are like me and don't have hours to figure things out on my own with work and family time etc. This game is so huge and so much to do that it's worth getting this guide in my opinion. First time in a long time that I bought a strategy guide for a game and its so worth it. Ya you can just google a bunch of this info or use YouTube but it feels much more rewarding to navigate the book and research the info you need on your own. Highly recommended. The book is enormous and heavy and with very tiny writing it definitely packs in a crazy amount of stuff. Definitely some tiny printing is a heads up I would give.

If you are a fan of the Legend of Zelda series, particularly Breath of the Wild, then I highly recommend this book. It is filled with various strategies, artwork, and comprehensive information about the game. It is truly a collector's item that any Zelda enthusiast would appreciate.

Ik ben The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild gaan spelen omdat ik goede herinneringen heb aan A Link to the Past op de SNES. Ik ben geen die-hard Zelda-fan die alles uit de reeks gespeeld heeft, maar zowel A Link to the Past als Breath of the Wild vind ik geweldige games. Via een video op YouTube kwam ik erachter dat deze officiële gids bestond. Op dat moment had ik al meer dan 25 uur in Breath of the Wild zitten, dus ik twijfelde even of zo’n boek dan nog wel veel zou toevoegen. Toch heb ik hem gekocht, en daar heb ik geen moment spijt van gehad. Wat mij vooral positief verraste, is hoeveel informatie erin staat waar ik nog niet of maar half van op de hoogte was. Eigenlijk bevat ieder hoofdstuk wel meerdere tips, details of wetenswaardigheden die het spelen leuker maken. Daardoor voelt het boek niet als een droge gids, maar echt als een aanvulling op de beleving van het spel. De gids is met ongeveer 512 pagina’s in kleur bijzonder uitgebreid. Kaarten, uitleg, achtergrondinformatie, voorwerpen, quests en allerlei details worden overzichtelijk behandeld. Ook fijn om te weten: deze Expanded Edition gaat niet alleen over de basisgame, maar behandelt ook de twee DLC’s. Voor mij is dit boek dus een duidelijke aanrader. Niet alleen voor de fanatieke Zelda-liefhebber, maar ook voor spelers zoals ik, die gewoon meer uit Breath of the Wild willen halen en z'n ervaringwil vergrote. Als ik straks (ooit) aan Tears of the Kingdom begin, is de kans groot dat ik daar ook de officiële gids van dezelfde uitgever van koop.
