I highly recommend this sharpening jig. Especially if you want to keep a consistent edge on you tools. I love my sharpening station.

My neighbor is a world renowned wood turner. He got me interested in turning. He has a very similar system that he swears by, this one works just as well and is far less expensive. This is basically a well built imitation of an overpriced system, they mount and function identically, with similar weight materials. I would recommend this to anyone!

Overall, this is a good product and the price is very reasonable for what you get. Instructions were very clear and well written, so initial set-up was pretty painless. The system is designed for an 8" grinder, but they have the adjustments you will need to make in order to use with a 6" grinder. Only minor thing is that measurements are all listed in metric, so you will need to have a metric ruler or do the conversion. Not really that big of a deal. I've mostly used the vari-grind attachment sharpening bowl gouges and it gives fast, repeatable results. Extremely happy with that aspect of the system. I've also made good use of the platform and it is substantial and solid. Why four stars instead of five? The knob on the vari-grind came off the first couple times I tried to unscrew it. A little loc-tite solved that, but should have been done at the factory. Bigger complaint from me is that the skew attachment is basically unusable. It attaches solidly and you can certainly sharpen a skew chisel with it, but the resulting skew angle is far too steep, IMO. I'm just using the platform for skews. like I did before purchasing the system. Overall, the biggest reason I purchased this product was for bowl gouge sharpening and that works great, so would definitely recommend and buy again just for that use. The platform is larger and more solid than what came with the grinder, so that has also been a big plus.

I gave it 5 stars because I'm pretty sure it will do everything I'll need it to do, but frankly I have to learn how to use it. New at this.

This is simply a SLICK system for sharpening. I wish I had taken the plunge long ago. And the price was lower than other, essentially identical, products too.

We bought these attachments to go with a Bucktool 8” low speed bench grinder with LED. My husband mounted them on a 3/4” plywood board along with the grinder. He put chest handles on the side for easy moving. He’s been able to sharpen his lathe tools beautifully.

I have a lot of wood turning tool sharpening systems. The expensive but tried and true Wolverine from OneWay manufacturing. The ProGrind from PeachTree here on Amazon. Some from WoodCut in Australia. Etc... Some I knew would have no compatibility, the ones from Australia. Some I expected would. For instance the ProGrind works with the wolverine and vice versa even though they look a bit different on the bases. This looked visually identical. There were comments online about it working and "being the same". However in use the tubes that go into the base were the wrong size. They were substantially larger. Thus the bases were larger as well. Which means the Wolverine parts would slide into these but would not lock down. The tubes from this system would not slide in. Next the fingernail jig that is a part of this kit is entirely different dimensions as well. So now none of the wooden setup jigs I have constructed would work. In addition to this lack of compatibility there is another issue. All of these pieces are painted black. It seems to be normal paint and not a more durable powder coated type. Because of all of these differences I decided to return this system. It was unused so to be honest I don't know how it would hold up. Now as for ease of use of this sort of thing I love this general setup. It is flexible and very versatile. I was sure hopeful that this one would be good. So if you are new to this and not looking for compatibility with existing equipment then this is a very cost effective option. You would just go thru the setup and get things into your desired setup and would go. If you are in this mode then give it a try.

This a great alternative to the very similar way over priced lathe tool sharpening jigs. Very well made, robust & accurate. Does everything you need at like 1/2 the price. I use it regularly & converted my favorite bowl gouges to an English grind with it. Now I can easily touch up the edges in about 10 seconds and get right back to turning. Also saves tons of steel lost doing it free hand.
