Application tricky but once nailed it’s beautiful
This product has a slightly tricky application method but once you use it correctly, it’s beautiful. Because it’s a serum and pigment hybrid encapsulated in pellets, the pellets must burst before applying it to the face/skin. So don’t apply directly to the skin. On the back of the hand or in your palm, use your CLEAN finger or a brush to burst the pellets completely. Then you can dot onto face or pick up with a brush and THEN apply to the skin. The luxury version works exactly the same way. You must do this first. If the pellets are broken up on the face, the application will be patchy. I LOVE this product. It’s amazing on my very mature skin. It does have coverage, more than you might expect because it is buildable. I do find the shade range runs quite light but the shade “light” does have a neutral undertone which is good but also surprising because so many drugstore complexion products run very warm (either very yellow or quite orangey). I find this product identical to the Chanel Water Fresh Tint but it has better coverage. The luxury version is very sheer but the principle of application is the same. I also like that this drugstore version is unscented or at least has no scent I can detect. The luxury product is highly fragranced and that’s off putting for me. As for wear time, it’s hard to say. I live in Florida and in the summertime I sweat like crazy so I have to use a waterproof setting spray. I don’t use powder because I don’t want to dim the radiance I get with this product. You could definitely do a light layer of powder wherever the shine is too much. It also doesn’t sink into fine lines and it minimizes texture too. All in all this was a great purchase. I no longer see the Perfecting Essence on drugstore shelves but found here on Amazon, yay! This isn’t my first purchase of this product. I first bought the shade fair but it was far too pale. Then I forgot about it until I almost bought the Chanel Water Fresh Tint and remembered this dupe was actually better. I highly recommend this product and this review comes from a retired professional makeup artist. I would keep this in my kit if I were still a working artist.

One of the Best Skin Tints at the Drugstore
I’m impressed every time I wear this skin tint. It lasts all day on me, gives a beautiful glow(but not too much for my combo normal-oily skin type), doesn’t settle in lines, and just gives a beautiful overall veil of coverage. You have to break up the pigment beads before applying. I’ve found it best to apply with your fingers then press it in with a brush to blend. You really only need 1-2 pumps. I’m usually a light-medium neutral-olive skin tone in foundations. I got shade Light Neutral and it’s a touch too light for me, but I can make it work with bronzer. I like it enough to get a darker shade (medium olive) to mix. It has become my favorite everyday base!

Shades run very light, but it is a skin perfector for sure.
I like this as a primer. It doesn't work as a foundation for me because it's too light. I ordered a shade darker than I normally wear, based on other reviews that said it was too light. It was STILL too light in color. I love the finish it provides. It perfects my skin and allows me to use my foundation with less concealer. It goes on easy. You only need one pump as a primer, so it will last a while. It's a bit pricey for a Covergirl product, but I really think it's a good value if you want a primer with perfecting coverage. I apply with a damp beauty sponge, let it dry for a couple of minutes, then apply my foundation. Picture 1 is nothing on my face, picture 2 is just this product on my face, picture 3 is all of my make up applied on top of it. It doesn't have a fragrance that I can tell, which i prefer. It is hydrating but it is not greasy. I have dry skin and prefer to use the lightest layer of setting powder in the center of my face only. This product doesn't require any additional setting powder, which i really appreciate. I don't know if I will buy it again or not. I will admit to being influenced by Nikki La Rose in purchasing this. If I had blemishes to cover (rare for me), I might consider wearing it all the time. Time will tell. Hope this helps with your purchases. Go up two shades if you plan to wear as foundation, or swap it in store somewhere.

The best foundation for aging skin
I looove this foundation. It’s so hydrating and being in my 40s, hydration is needed. It was a perfect shade for summer, but I’ll need a lighter shade for the colder months. It’s not cakey or oily. I love it

Better than I thought
I’ve been struggling for so long to find something similar-ish to a BB cream that has some coverage without making me look dried out and aged. It almost looks like a filter. It’s not perfect, but far better than anything I’ve tried so far. Just be sure to get a shade darker than you think you are

Really Nice Product
I hope Covergirl looks at our reviews. I first want to say that this product really is one of the best products to use for no makeup makeup days. If all I wanted to do was make my skin look better, I could just use this and call it a day. All dimension is not lost and I'm able to get away not using blush, bronzer, contour, highlight and some type of colored lippie. The prices found on Amazon is the only reason I even tried it out. The finish looks like my skin and doesn't transfer everywhere. I'm an oily girl taking spironolactone, and I don't even see tons of oil seeping through as I would with a traditional foundation. So here are the cons, but they really aren't that bad. The model pictures will have you picking the wrong color. I can look in the mirror and hold up the image of the model to look at both of us at the same time. My skin tones looks to be color 50 and maybe 40. Looking at the perfector essence in the bottle would have me picking color 50. 50 looks like white paste on my skin. However, I match color 60 perfectly. This leads me to say that these colors are not very flexible. I can't get away with grabbing a slightly lighter shade. Also, the application applies better with the designated brush better than with fingers. If I swirl the product with the brush, it automatically bursts and blends the perfector essence perfectly. Applying it with my hands requires more effort and blending. This is great because I can just use a brush, but using my hands turns out to be harder. Lastly, the price is too high for a drugstore product. On Amazon, the price is great, but in stores it costs too much without coupons and discounts. This is a Covergirl product and we expect Covergirl prices Overall, I am happy with this product. Influencers that I'd match are Monica Ravii, Artee Kumar and in most cases Adityamadiraju, but he is a hair darker and is less olive. I'm not Indian, but I seem to match many online who consider themselves dusky. O

Pretty good, but I don't reach for it a lot..
I like this product ok as far as the final look, but it seems like it takes longer to put on than other foundations, because you have to really rub it in because of those little microbeads of serum or color or whatever that's all about.

Great Sheer Coverage
I love the sheer, semi-matte coverage, and the watery consistency once the makeup has been blended (doing it on my hand, as instructed). However, I really hate the beads. I wish the makeup was already blended coming out of the bottle. I don’t know if it’s a gimmick, or if there is some sort of scientific reason Cover Girl made the makeup this way. I feel like the mixing wastes a lot of product. I tried applying both with my fingers and with brushes, and found a dense brush works best for smoothing out the foundation on my skin. It doesn’t pull and blends well with the denser brush. My skin feels very soft after application, and it doesn’t feel at all like I’m wearing traditional foundation. I’ve used Maybelline 4-in-1 Glow (not the foundation, but the actual glow formula), but it’s been discontinued. The consistency and coverage of this makeup are a good equivalent. The color match is great for me. I usually wear light in foundations, and got the 20-light shade in this makeup. I am 52 and have dry, aging skin, with extremely rare blemishes. I’ll continue to buy it, as it’s the closest formula I’ve found to the discontinued Maybelline formula. The price is great at $8, and it lasts through the day on my dry skin. There is no scent that I can detect, and it washes off well with my drugstore face wash. I’d give it five stars if I didn’t have to pop the little capsules!

Lovely serum like base that gives skin an airbrushed healthy finish
Saw this being used by an American make up artist and saw that I could get it on Amazon in the UK . Brilliant for a natural look, even on mature skin. It is light as air ,with the feel of a serum ,yet it gives enough coverage ,is moisturising and leaves a natural healthy glow. I work it into my skin so the little bubbles of pigment disperse and it sinks into the skin, doesn't sit on top of it like foundations and even most skin tints. Anywhere I may need extra coverage like on stubborn pigmentation, I use a bit of a lightweight concealer . I love it and now use it everyday...even when I have a long day in an office. It also wears well so it's a winner for me!

Broken seal
The product arrived already open, seal had been broken. Otherwise it’s a good foundation.
