Excellent quality, one of the best
Im an experienced watercolorist. I studied art in college, but after years of not painting, I picked it up again. I have tried a large variety of paints from cheap to expensive, from liquid to pans to tubes etc. So far these paints are my favorite. I’ll admit that I stayed away from them because the name is a bit cheesy and I felt like they may be poor quality. I mean who buys paints names after a ridiculously famous artist? It’s like buying a frozen entree named after your favorite chef. You know it’s not going to compare to the real thing. Anyways, after reawakening my love for watercolor I started off with some paints and was not getting good results. I honestly thought it was because I was so out of practice. But I just wasn’t happy with my pieces. The colors seemed too fake, too bright and I couldn’t get a lot of texture and detail. I was having a lot of trouble manipulating the color so I decided to change my paints. I went through 6 other brands of paints and none gave me the results I was looking for until I tried these. To me, the most important thing about WC paints are three things. Transparency, workability (I’ll get more into that later), and color tones. Transparency is a given. Chalky watercolor is just the worst. You’ll never get good results if you cannot easily layer your colors. Workability: now this is where things get tricky. I really like the ability to be able to lift my color off the paper if it does something I don’t like, or to create highlights. I also like the ability for colors to bleed a bit and form natural textures as that’s what makes watercolor unique as a medium. This paint does just that. You can always go back in and rework areas etc. I will warn that the reds do tend to bleed more than the other shades so keep that in mind. Some people don’t like this. Some prefer for the paint to stay put where they left it and like to be able to do washes right over painted areas. With the van gohs, this is difficult. As the paint will react to any moisture it’s introduced to, even once dry. But I like that you can rework areas multiple times. If you like something more stable, try the Windsor newtons. They tend to stay put more; or you can try India inks which are waterproof once dry. The last thing is color shades. I like natural looking colors. Shades that are too bright or almost fluorescent are very off putting to me as your work can end up looking like it was done with crayolas. The shades in this set are great. They are bright, don’t get me wrong, but they are natural looking. The only flaw with this set is a lack of a true violet shade and a good magenta. I do a lot of florals and find that you can’t mix a good purple with the red and blues provided in this set. Nor can you get a good magenta. So you may need to buy a couple of extra tubes in those shades. Other than that, these paints are excellent. Very good quality, fantastic workability and gorgeous, true-to-life colors.

well made and affordable little palette.
I got the 12+3 half pan set and it is a killer value. I recently bought a 12 half pan set of student grade watercolors by W&N at my local art supply store for the exact same price as this Van Gogh set. The Van Gogh Comes with 3 bonus pans a superior pallet and the pigments are just as good if not better. seems like a no brainer to me. I love the way the half pans lock into the pallet and the form factor is attractive and fairly compact and I really like that there are 6 separations in the mixing area so that your mixed colors do not contaminate each other. This is the kind of Pallet I would take on a trip or out to do Plein Air painting where working space is limited, so keeping a tidy palette is a plus for me. Lastly, This Palette is a win for me because I typically hate plastic palettes because they are either too bulky or cheaply made. I also dislike tins because the hinges or lids sometimes warp and wont stay closed or they start to rust after the finish wears off. This palette is plastic but it appears to be a very good quality plastic it has a RIC 7 (the little recycling code on most plastics) which indicates "other" so even though I have no idea what kind of plastic it is an RIC 7 is usually used by Nylons Polycarbonate, or even PLA (bioplastics popular in 3d printing). So the good news its made of durable stuff, the bad news is if/when it breaks it cannot be recycled and I am not sure if that is a problem for most people but for me it isn't because I plan to take good care of it and have it last a lifetime of use. I would rather have one good nearly indestructible plastic palette with a good design and favorable ergonomics than a dozen dented and rusted tins that won't stay closed.

A Watercolor Masterpiece in a Pocketbox
As an aspiring watercolor artist, I recently had the pleasure of working with the Van Gogh Watercolor Paint Set in the Plastic Pocketbox, specifically the 24-Half Pan General Selection. To say that I was impressed would be an understatement. This set is a pocket-sized treasure trove for artists, offering a blend of quality, convenience, and creativity that has the potential to inspire both beginners and seasoned artists. The quality of Van Gogh watercolors is unquestionable. Each half-pan of paint in this set boasts vibrant, highly pigmented colors that glide smoothly onto paper. The consistency and intensity of the hues are simply stunning. Even diluting the paints with water retains the color's brilliance, making it easy to achieve the desired transparency or opacity. This set is a testament to the superior craftsmanship that Van Gogh is renowned for. One of the standout features of this set is its portability. Housed in a sturdy, pocket-sized plastic box, it's the perfect companion for artists on the go. The half-pans can be easily removed and placed on a palette, and the lid can be used as a mixing surface, which is a thoughtful touch for those who prefer to mix their colors. The compact size makes it ideal for outdoor painting, urban sketching, or simply carrying your creative tools wherever you go.

Nice palette for travel
This is a nice palette for travelling. It's compact and I like the ample mixing space that the palette has and the brush is a size 6 and is a nice brush, though the handle is plastic. The colors are vibrant and easily activated. They are creamy and go on nicely. I've only used them for swatching, and haven't used them to paint anything yet. The reasons for only 4 stars: 1) The paints are covered with a plastic cover that lists the name of the pigment and the pigment number, but nothing on lightfastness, if that's something you want to know. However, the plastic is very sticky and hard to remove. Some of the paints came out of the pan and stuck to the plastic. 2) The swatch card that comes with the set is not watercolor paper so the colors appeared streaky. I swatched on watercolor paper, and the colors laid down nicely. (see photo) 3) I wanted to re-arrange the pans according to the way I use my colors and found them difficult to remove with the brush handle which bent (fortunately, it didn't snap off). Only a couple of pans came out easily, and for the others I used a palette knife, which bent, then I used a stylus with the smallest point. That worked, but again, it was ruined because the ends bent. Also, the pans don't have the colors on them, so I had to use a Sharpie to write them on the pan. Overall, these are nice paints and I would recommend for travel or plenn air painting.

Best paints at a great price
This is my favorite of all of my watercolor palettes. The paints are high quality and so is the included brush. There is ample space for mixing and blending colors. It’s great for traveling and has a nice variety of colors in a compact amount of space.

Great paint - many are single pigment!
I searched long and hard before deciding to ask for this set of paints for Christmas. I’m so glad I did! These are high quality paints. I did a lot of research, and what’s important in any watercolor paint you buy is the Pigment Name. It’s listed on the back of the tube in tiny print. A single-pigment paint will mix better with your other colors and produce vibrant colors - not mud. And most of these paints are, indeed, single pigment. A search online will help you from there. The colors (with my personal exception of the Chinese White) all can work along side professional watercolor paints and hold their own when mixing with or glazing over pricier professional tubes paints. They are almost all rated lightfast (many student quality paints fade noticeably over time). I find the paint on paper to be transparent and quite beautiful. These are also larger tubes of paint, which makes the Amazon price even more appealing. Most artists I consulted told me while researching that you only need a small selection of paints in watercoloring as their transparent quality makes them ideal for mixing your own unlimited amount of colors. With a couple of videos you can learn how to use a color wheel for making your own shades that you like. And these paints do a good job on that. I copied this picture from a coloring book I bought off Amazon and then used graphite paper to trace the image onto my paper. Then I made my own purples using the paints found in this set (notice... it doesn’t come with a purple!) and colored it in. Even an old dog like me who has never used wstercolor paint before made this look very interesting. Lastly, this set is made by Talens, who are also the people who manufacture the highly-thought-of Rembrandt watercolor paints. So the quality of the product is there. These paints are popular in Europe as it is manufactured there, but it’s relatively unknown in the US.

Absolutely Gorgeous!!!!’
I don’t usually write product reviews, but y’all this palette is absolutely fabulous!!!! 😍 The color choices are unique, and the consistency and quality of the paints are phenomenal!!! Plus, the palette itself is lightweight, has a removable section for extra mixing space, and looks and feels of good quality materials. Even the little travel brush that is included is decent! If I could change one thing about the palette design, I would use the space between the top two colors where they have placed the name, to be indented (like the mixing wells, to hold a sponge or a bit of water. Some of the colors are a bit opaque and a couple seem to granulate slightly, both of which I love! They blend beautifully and lay down with ease. I have A LOT of different watercolor brands (pro and student grade) and palettes, and this little guy is one of my absolute favs!!! 🤩😍 Buy this palette!!! You will NOT be disappointed!! 👍🏻

Really Good Paints
I have two sets of these Van Gogh paints and if I hadn't already bought another large set of paints from another brand, I might have bought a larger set of these, I like them that much. I think they are just as good as some of the more expensive paints ... and I use them A LOT!

Me da buenos resultados. Es una buena opción de calidad intermedia. Al ser en tubo se pueden conseguir mas colores y tonos mezclando. Volvere a comprar.
