Can the ear defenders be put on the stowed position (at back of helmet) while the visor is in down position for use?

Yes, the ear defenders and visor operate independently. You can have the visor down, the ear defenders down, or both.

Will this work for climbing trees ?

No!.. its a grounds helmet. You will need a arborist helmet if your doing trees.

how does the neck protector fit? I can't get the clips to attach to anything.

They go through the actual visor mesh at the bottom
