Holy Flashbacks, Batman! Featuring the voices of Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin (reprising their roles from the hit live-action TV series), these animated adventures of the Caped Crusader and Boy Wonder originally produced by animation powerhouse Filmation in 1977, are revered by generations of cartoon fans. With heroine Batgirl and zany sidekick Batmite, these brave Bat-heroes match wits with clever criminals like the Joker, the Penguin, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze and the cosmic uber-villain Zarbor! This is a lot of nostalgia to simpler times. Watch one at lunch or by the pool. A fun show for a great price. Vintage batman style!

Not the greatest Batman, but worth having
As I've been building my Batman video collection for years, I was very interested in this one when it was released. I had fond memories of the show when it was on, so I made sure to get this one. It's not quite as good as I remembered but am still glad to have it. This particular series ran on Saturday mornings from 1977 to 1978. Batman, as usual, fights crime against such masterminds as Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Clayface, Chameleon, and... Professor Bubbles (ugh). In his fight, he's assisted by Robin, Batgirl and... Bat-mite (again, ugh). As a Saturday Morning Kids' show, this was fun to watch. It was also great being a kid at that time because you could get a double dose of Batman on Saturday. In addition to this show, you could also catch Batman & Robin as members of the Super Friends on another network (recently got the Blu-Ray package on that show. See my review). This show was bright and fun and super kid friendly. The villains were fun too as the regulars were brought in and a few were created specifically for this show. Electro and the Chameleon were fun but could have done without Sweet Tooth and Professor Bubbles. Finally, the real draw was that they got Adam West and Burt Ward, the original Live Action Batman & Robin, to provide voices for the show. The show was also beautifully drawn and well animated. Now for the Cons. This was a Filmation production and as Filmation was one of the last animation studios to keep all work onshore with no overseas outsourcing, it meant that a lot of corners had to be cut. The animation, while good, was constantly recycled and reused. Same goes for the musical cues as Filmation had their own library of music scores and used these across almost every show they produced in the 70's. Watch this show against Filmation animated Star Trek, Tarzan, and Live-Action Shazam! & Isis and you will see what I mean. The music library was shallow too, so you would get some hip 70's disco track playing that didn't really match the scene you're watching. They also had a very short list of voice-actors. Aside from West and Ward (who only voiced Batman and Robin), they had two men and one woman provide all of the other voices. As a result, most everybody sounds alike. Then there is Bat-mite. One of the things that Filmation did with a lot of their productions was add some comic relief in the form of a bungling, over-achiever who was an almost constant thorn in the side of the heroes. Bat-mite did come from the comics. However, while he was an almost omnipotent imp in the comics (and also on the later Batman: Brave & the Bold. Check it out), he was reduced to a bumbling goof who could do little more than pop in and out in a puff of yellow smoke. But, bumbling sidekicks were the norm in Saturday Morning cartoons, so we didn't think much of it. Bat-mite, in my opinion, was definitely a precursor to Orko on the Filmation produced He-Man & the Masters of the Universe which came out a few years later. Same voice and mannerisms for sure. Another drawback to having Bat-mite was that the Batcave was getting crowded, so they took out the character of Alfred the Butler entirely (sorry Batman purists). Love it or hate it, it is what it is. The Blu-Ray package is fine. 16 episodes on one disc. The restoration on these episodes is really great. The colors are bright and flawless, and the sound is really good too. One odd choice is that when the main menu is on display, there is this strange dub-step modern music playing that has nothing to do with the series. I guess since this show really didn't have its own unique music score, they couldn't select anything from the show to play in the main menu, so they made something up. There is one special feature "Dark Knight Revisited" which is a short documentary produced in standard definition. All cons aside, this is a fun show to watch. While the adults can watch with nostalgia, kids and grandkids can also enjoy. This show was definitely made for kids and because of certain standards that had been introduced to kids' programming in the 70's, there was no violence or fighting allowed. So, Batman and Robin aren't throwing their "Pow!" and "Zap!" punches like they were in the 60's. If you don't want your small kids watching violent shows, you can't go wrong here. Again, the Batman fans can find a lot of better shows out there. However, it's still recommended for any Batman fan who want to add more to their collection.

Wanted to Like it More
The great would be the animation and voice acting. The bad is the stories are a lil to campy for my liking that it doesn’t leave a lasting impression on the plot.

Ahhh... 1977!
Excellent picture & sound quality. Cool animated series. BAT-MITE is even more annoying than I remembered, though. If you do not know who BAT-MITE is, skip this series! Beleive me. It's like being stuck with JAR JAR BINKS, but in Gotham!

La imagen es en alta definición, los colores y el audio formidable, una compra super recomendable para todos los amantes del género, el único detalle es que viene en inglés, pero esta ok si quieres aprovechar y practicar el idioma.
