Is Mallow Extract and Marshmallow Root Extract the same thing?

No they are not the same thing. Mallow extract comes from the Malva sylvestris plant while marshmallow root comes from the root of the Althaea officinalis. I hope this helps :)

Can this be used for homemade skin care products?

I would imagine it could, yes. But keep in mind it is an extract made from alcohol and may not be the consistency you may want. I use it for internal supplementation. It is very good quality.
