The cats love it for the light warmth but I'm disappointed with the loss of fiber on the bed where the label was affixed
SEE UPDATE AT END - I changed my ranking from 4 to 5 stars I have three cats and wanted to add another electric heating pad so they each have their own heated bed. This mat is small and looks like a typical pet bed. By small, I mean that it will fit a cat no larger than 20 pounds or a toy dog. (NOTE: I attached a photo of my largest cat Ricky in this bed; he is 16 pounds. Although he looks like he is spilling over the bed in this photo, he is not.) The heating element is located between the layers of the bed with the cord extending out the back. My cats love it as it warms them without making them hot. I keep it plugged in all the time in the winter. The fabric on the bed is gorgeous, plush, and has a nice marbling to it. Therefore, I was disappointed when one area of the bed got damaged as a result of removing the packaging labels. What I mean by this is that the manufacturer attaches a highly sticky label to the bed that says "Test your new bed." When this label is pulled off, a tremendous amount of fiber comes off with it leaving the area it was removed from slightly bald. The beautiful marbling is just destroyed in one section by this adhesive. In my opinion, this label is unnecessary because a cardboard label is also attached with one of those plastic punch ties. What is interesting is that the cardboard label contradicts what is said on the adhesive label anyway. The cardboard label says to wait one hour before placing a pillow on the bed for 20-30 minutes and then testing the warmth. The adhesive label says to plug the bed in, put a pillow on the bed, and wait 20 minutes before testing the warmth of the pillow. I've attached pictures so that you can see what I mean. I called K&H and spoke to gentlemen who said I could return the bed to Amazon for another one. I told him this would result in receiving another bed with another label, so what's the point. He provided an email address and I sent pictures to the manufacturer. They said they would look into this. I hope they resolve this issue. I actually would not purchase another one until I'm sure they fixed this issue. It only affects the aesthetics of the bed and is an eyesore to me. In summary, the removal of the fibers does not take away from the functionality of the bed nor does it diminish its use in any way. However, I personally do not like the look of a patchy spot on the bed that does not match the quality and beautiful marbling of the fibers throughout the rest of the cat pad. For this reason, I rate this 4 stars. My cats, on the other hand, give it 5 stars. UPDATE Nov. 24, 2015 - Attached are two pictures of my 9-pound cat Jake on this bed. UPDATE Sep. 18, 2017 - My cats loved this bed so much that I purchased two more so that each of my three cats has one. Also, I'm happy to report that the vendor finally listened to my suggestion and is no longer sticking their tag to the bed. Instead they attach information on a cardboard tag the same way as clothes are tagged in a department store. Therefore, the bed remains in pristine condition. I raised my review from 4 to 5 stars as now both I and my cats love these beds.

My cat and I both love it - safe, well made, wonderful comfort for older pet
This worked great for my cat, he loves it. It took 3 days for him to try it, at first he just walked around it. But once he discovered it was heated, all was good. The construction of this is very safe. The heating pad zips in underneath the unit and is seated between two foam pads. The bed is warm but never feels too hot. I did the test recommended when it arrived which is to Place a pillow in the bed for 20 minutes. The Bottom of the pillow becomes warm and the inside of the bed is also warm to the touch. It does not have an on off switch, once you plug it in it remains on. However, I am able to safely leave it plugged 24/7. My cat fits in the bed with plenty of room. He weighs 8 pounds at the moment. He likes to rest his head on the edge like a pillow. The style of the bed allows him to do this. He also likes to curl up in a ball in the center of the bed. This was so much better in quality and design than I ever expected. I will be ordering a second for another room. Update 1/19/2015: Updating review to reflect second purchase of this item. The first one of these I bought was excellent. And my cat still uses it every day. I bought a second one to put in another room, and that one did not work. It would not warm up at all. I returned it to Amazon for a refund with no problem. So I removed one star from my original review, to reflect possible inconsistent quality. The first one was great and I will never give it up. The second one I had to send back because it would not warm. Update: 01/18/2016: I brought my rating back up to five stars after purchasing a third unit. Here's what happened in my case: The heat level of this bed helped my elderly cat's joints so much that he no longer needs special diet joint food and no longer displays any symptoms of stiffness. I therefore decided to take another try at acquiring a spare bed. He prefers this bed to any other accomodation including 'people beds', and it has really helped him out. In summary, the first and 3rd purchase resulted in acquiring perfect heated beds. I rotate them through washing each month so my cat always has one that is nice and fresh. Removing the heating unit for washing and putting the bed back together once it is dry is easy. It would be nice if the fabric that your pet Lays on inside the bed was more. Resilient. It starts out looking great, but once the nap flattens stays that way. It doesn't seem to affect the comfort of the bed, as my little guy loves these things. This product is highly recommended. If you get one and it doesn't seem to heat, exchanging it is recommended. Apparently, when you get a good unit the heat feature is a great quailty of life benefit for your pet, and the bed design holds up well to repeated Gentle cycle machine washing.

great cat bed
I just got this cat bed today and two of my cats are already enjoying it! I got the package, opened it, set it on the couch and plugged it in. I left the house for a couple of hours and when I got home my 1 year old cat and the 3 month old kitten were curled up in the bed, enjoying its warmth! I tried to introduce this bed to my older (8 year old) cat, but she looked like she stepped on something icky and hopped away. This bed is very soft and plush. It is slightly on the small side, but definitely enough room for one medium sized cat and even a little left over for a kitten. I think that a large cat should fit, but they would probably fill the whole bed. I suspect that two full grown cats probably wouldn't fit too well, but I don't think that was how this cat bed was designed. When there are no cats in the bed, it is slightly warm to the touch. When there is a cat in the bed and I put my hand underneith their body, it is definitely very warm but not hot. I think that this bed would be a good addition of heat for a cat to enjoy inside an already heated house, that might be a little chilly since it is winter outside. But this is definitely not designed for garage, shed, or outdoor use since it wouldn't put off enough heat to cut the larger amount of cold in those areas. There is a small rounded lip that goes around the bed. It is enough to help keep the cats head either tucked inside of the bed where the heat is, or if they prefer, they can prop their chin up and away from the heat. I have seen my 1 year old cat do both. Over all, this is a great cat bed intended for single cat use and for inside the home use only to keep your cat a little warmer when you want to drop the thermostate down a couple of degrees. If you have multiple cats, buy multiple cat beds. If you are wanting to put the bed in an area that does not have its own heat source, then find a cat bed designed for outdoor use.

Great for Older Cats! Young kitties enjoy it, too
After researching, I determined K&H Manufacturing was the better company from which to buy heated pet beds/pads. I have purchased three K&H heated pads and they are working well, after more than a year. Northern Illinois is cold in winter, but the house thermostat can be kept at a lower temp without worrying, since older kitties have heated beds/pads to keep them warm. The products are warm but _not_ hot. The heated pads are slightly less expensive, but you do need to put a cover on them (I use a zippered pillow case) and add cushioning of some sort (great if you already have a nice bed and just want to add heat). I decided to get a bed this time, since it can be plugged in and used anywhere, without the fuss. Note that according to the manufacturer *khmfg.com*, the product "warms to your pet's normal body temperature when in use." When a cat is on it (or even another object on top it) and you place your hand underneath the bed, you can feel the extra warmth - nice and toasty! First, I purchased this heated bed for a friend's 21 year-old cat, Pixie. Pixie LOVES her bed. It is the added warmth and comfort she needs on a chilly California day (and even on warmer days!). I also bought one for my three cats (who live in N. IL) so can comment from personal experience - they also love this bed, especially the 13 & 17 year old cats, who are often curled up on it. My younger cat enjoys it, too. The fabric is soft and fuzzy, a kitty favorite. Padding is enough to make it soft, although not too soft, which can be good for cats who need the bed on a firmer/hard surface for support (if they have weak rear ends). If you want added cushioning, just place on top a chair cushion/pillow. Great product, well made, durable, easy to use - worth every penny for my happy cats. Probably would work well for very small dogs, too. 4/2/2014 Update: The heating pad in this bed continues to work well. The bedding fabric has held up over time. The cats still love it. I will also note that all of the K&H heating pads I've purchased are still working and some are older than this bed, leaving me impressed with the quality of the products.

Heated Bed Has Stood the Test of Time... They Love it and I Love it!
It's been 4 years and this thing is STILL going strong! They love the heat and comfort it provides. It's also that microfiber fabric that they can't resist. Sometimes I worried that they'd knead on it and it's an electronic device but there's padding inside that the heating pad sits in. Everything came new with tags, nice and fresh for them to fuzz up with all their fur. It's really easy to clean too. I take the heating pad out, brush it with a rubber brush and then hand wash it in the tub and let it hang dry. It's really well made and UL certified so I feel safe having it plugged in all the time. You can feel the strong warmth on your hand and they love the heat on their bodies. I usually unplug it during the summer time, but the rest of the year, the heating bed is open for business! :D Whenever it's quiet in the house I just look in this little bed and sure enough one of the girls is in it snoozing away. They love it, and I love it too. I loved these so much I had purchased a second one in brown so there would be no fighting or jealousy over the one bed. They made a really gross mess in that one so I decided to toss the bed. By no fault of its own, the outer shell died and I kept the inner heating pad just in case this one goes out or if I buy a new bed to put it in. The pads can only be placed in beds designed with the foam to house the heating pad safely (aka won't burn kitties and no electricity problems).

My cats like it so much I need a second.
I had to buy another. My cats kept giving one another the stink eye when they wanted it and it was in use (which is nearly consistently since it was bought and plugged in). The cord is decently long, so they're not tethered to within two feet of a wall. It's warm enough that the cats can feel it (and apparently love it), but not so hot that I need to worry about it burning my bed or any other surface. It's been in my laundry basket for over 24 hours and not melted anything, and on my bed it leaves a warm spot when you move it about as warm as a laptop does. We keep our house at about 73 degrees, cooler at night, and my cats love this during the day and the night. Even the cat who doesn't much like the extra heat likes this bed. They'll be much happier when the second arrives. Update: 1/13/15, the second arrived and now as expected each bed has a cat in it. The cat who I did NOT buy it for was chasing it all over the house. It was on the bed, so was he. It fell to the floor, he slept on it while it was upside down on the floor (the underside warms as well). I moved it to the basement, he disappeared into the basement. So no more stink eyes, each cat has their own. Others have said these don't warm up a whole lot. They warm up to probably about a low on a heating pad. Warm, but not hot. Perfectly comfortable for a furred animal to use without overheating, and something that can stay on your bed without worry that you'll set anything on fire. I have two on my bed now. Update: 3/20/16 A year plus later, they're still remarkably well loved. We've moved, and these now live on my desk. Very often one or both cats are dozing in them. I wish one was made for humans. My guys are not teeny tiny, they're about 13.5 pounds and 12 pounds, ad while they're not completely contained, they are completely comfortable.

Very good product, esp. if you have older or arthritic cats
I have two of these beds, and my two cats with arthritis practically live in them! They are the most popular sleeping spots among all our cats (ironic considering the very warm climate we live in). The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that one bed stopped heating after several months (good news, you can remove the heating part and just keep it as a regular cat bed, at least). But I liked the product enough that I replaced it. (I'm not sure if it was warrantied -- I forgot to check). My cats continue to love these beds. I will also note that it's very easy to remove the foam padding and the heating pad so you can machine-wash the beds -- I am VERY grateful for that. They're a little difficult to get back in smoothly, but not so bad. Overall I consider these a great investment for my cats. These heated beds seem to help them more than their weekly injections for arthritis and more than their special "mobility" food for cats with arthritis.

My cats insist that I give it a five
I have four cats. Three of them are twenty years old, and the baby is ten. Two of my twenty year-olds are from the same litter. I had their mother and grandmother from birth, and took their great grandmother in as a very young kitten. Their mom lived to be twenty-four. All of my cats are healthy, except that one of the twins has a bit of arthritis. It is pretty much reversed with Cosequin but she seems a little uncomfortable in cold weather, which can hardly be avoided here in Maine. The cats live inside but, with the cost of heating oil, we keep the thermostat on the low side, somewhere below comfortable and above freezing. They had never had a heated cat bed before but I ordered one of these a couple of months ago for her. Knowing full well that there would be three others waiting their turns, the one with arthritis is the alpha female, and is more likely than the others to get what she wants, so I figured she'd get more than her share of time in the heated bed, and I have several other warm beds for them, although not electrically heated. The other twin doesn't seem to like the electric bed much, but then she generally takes longer getting used to anything new. She seems afraid of the heating. If you've never used one of these, it only heats up after the cat lies down in it, and roughly matches their body temperatures. When it starts heating up, the other twin will immediately get up as if something had gone terribly wrong, then maybe try it one or two times before deciding on one of the non-electric beds, although I have gotten up in the morning to find her lying in it. (added later: she has since gotten used to the bed, and now prefers it, especially in cool weather) The other three cats love it, especially the one that I bought it for and the younger one. Frequently, the one in the bed will opt to remain in the bed rather than getting up for meals, probably afraid she'll lose her place. I've just ordered a second one. They are attractive beds, and they are easy enough to keep clean. I haven't had to wash the one that I have yet, but I wouldn't anticipate any problems with it if it should become necessary; a quick pass with a hand vacuum once every couple of weeks has sufficed so far. The cats love it, so much so that I have witnessed a few brief spats over the use of the bed. The one that I bought it for generally wins these arguments but I still don't like to leave the others out in the cold. I don't know if it would be the best choice for someone who is looking for a bed for an outdoor cat, or for one who is living in an unheated environment, such as a garage. It has very low sides, so it wouldn't do as good of a job of retaining the heat as might one of the ones with higher sides, or with a top over it. From my experience, three out of four cats give it an enthusiastic thumbs up, and the fourth hasn't decided yet. It took her six months to decide that the cat tree was safe, so I wouldn't count her hesitation against the product. You may or may not notice that the price of the bed depends on the color. Since my cats haven't expressed their favorite colors to me, I went with the mocha, which is the least expensive choice. Added nearly a year later: In preparation for another Maine winter, I have just ordered a third one of these beds. Over the summer, I unplugged the beds and the cats still preferred these to the our other kinds of cat beds that they have available to them. In cold weather, we keep the thermostat low, because of the rising costs of heating oil, so I plug the beds in. Cats, as you know, like to be warm, and these beds work very well for them. Three of my cats are now twenty-one, while the fourth is twelve, so I at least want to have one of these for each of the older cats, although before the winter is over I may give in and buy a fourth bed. As it is, they fight over them. These beds have held up very well, and are very easy to clean when necessary. Also, they do not make a discernible bump in our electricity rates. If I could give them six stars, I would. Added on December 31, 2011: I have just ordered a fourth of these cat beds, so that each of my cats will have one of these. When I first bought one of these, the mocha color was far cheaper than the others. Today, I see that the blue bed is the cheapest. The color doesn't matter to my cats, so I bought the blue one this time. It's been nearly a year since I bought the first one of these beds, this being the second winter with them, and my cats absolutely love them. Two of my cats turned 22 this month, and a third will be 22 next month, and they were fighting over these beds. While it is nice to know that there are still things worth fighting over at their age, it seemed only fair that they each have one of these. Now that I've ordered a blue one, I suppose I'll see if color matters to them. If you are buying one of these for the first time, don't despair if your cat doesn't take to it right away. Cats are cautious, and some cats are more cautious than others. One of my older cats couldn't be forced into one of these beds for the first couple of weeks, but now she loves it. They all do. August 10, 2012: I now have four of these, one for each cat. Some of them have been washed several times, yet they are all doing well, including the first one that I bought. I have other cat beds which are sometimes used, but these are the preferences for all four of my cats. In the summer, I unplug them, and when the temperatures cool, I plug them in. Either way, they love them. April 21, 2013: All four of these beds are still in constant use, including the very first one that I bought, and they have gone through many washings.

My kitty loves it
This is a nice bed that has a removable cover. At 4watts it doesn't get too warm and is perfect for the in-between seasons.

Comfy and Perfect For My Sick Cat
i bought this bed for my cat who has a heart problem and struggles to stay warm especially in the autumn and winter. He is a picky bugger at the best of times but he adores this bed, so much so my mum bought this bed again for when she stays with him. The only thing that i think could be improved slightly is the length of the cable, it could do with being slightly longer but I understand hat a longer cable might attract unwanted attention from the cat itself so I get why it isn't hugely long! To the human touch it doesn't actually feel hugely warm but when they sit on it then it becomes obvious that there is warmth there when you put your hand between the bed and under your cat. I would be careful put tiny kittens on this bed because they don't have the capability to move if they're getting to hot and could overheat. I have washed the outer cover of the cat bed and it has come up just and lovely as it was when I first opened it. I cannot speak more highly of this bed and the reassurance it has given me and my family.

Outstanding Pressure-Sensitive Heated Pet Bed
My cat has had her Thermo Kitty heated bed for a few weeks. Since I have electric heat, and hyrdo is expensive, I never turn the baseboard heaters on, instead I use a heated throw/blanket and portable oil heaters all Winter to just heat where I am (the first Winter I did this, I saved $500. on my heating bill for my small apartment). When I'm home, my cat hangs out with me in the local warmth. Originally I had thought to plug in her Thermo Kitty bed just when I go out. But the cat bed really is pressure sensitive and only warms up when she is in it. With liberal sprinkles of catnip, it has become her go-to bed. She loves it! She now sleeps in her warm little nest most of the night, and on and off all day during her cat naps. That this little soft velour-covered cat bed is pressure sensitive and doesn't heat up too much, only enough to make for a happily cosy cat, is outstanding. I sure hope it continues to work as it does now for years.

My cat is one with the bed.
It is pur- fect warm and cozy. Arrived as expected zero problems. Everything great. Very happy with it. It is expensive but my cat loves it and was interested in it almost right away.

Fantastic!
These are wonderful, high quality heated beds - we have three now! As you can see from the photo, our fur babies love them! They take very little power (less than an LED bulb), and we don't need to worry about leaving them plugged in when we are away. Super awesome! :D
