#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER โ A shimmering, joyful novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry. A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK OF 2024 Named a Must-Read Book of 2024 by TIME โ NPR โ ELLE โ Parade โ Womanโs World and more! Daphne always loved the way her fiancรฉ Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling itโฆright up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a childrenโs librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petraโs ex, Miles Nowak. Scruffy and chaoticโwith a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love balladsโMiles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that sheโs either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them? But itโs all just for show, of course, because thereโs no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancรฉโs new fiancรฉeโs ex . . . right? Review: When Your Ex Running Off with Their Ex Is a Win! ๐๐พ - My very first read by Emily Henry and the storyline was so fun that I could not put this book down! While I definitely do not advocate for exes running off with each other in real life, in this case, it set up a hilarious dynamic that kept me laughing throughout! The cozy library setting was wonderful, allowing for the community to genuinely serve as its own distinct character; the visuals completely stood out to me. I loved the intimate apartment scenes; the entire setup felt comforting yet deeply engaging. . The Aftermath ๐ท This was a FIVE-STAR read for me and an absolute favorite! The romance gave all the feels and immediately sent me on the hunt for more books by this author. It remains my top Emily Henry read to-date! Review: Masterful - Don't start this book unless you have the time to finish it, because once you get a few chapters in, you're not going to want to stop. Emily Henry is an auto buy for me and this books proves why. I was completely swept away by sweet Miles and Daphne, the most unexpected, unlikely couple that are totally perfect for each other. There are so many things I loved about this book, but here's just a few: - The banter is *chef's kiss*. Daphne and Miles are both so witty and cute, especially together. - The back stories shape them and impact the story, but not so overwhelmingly that they become the story. We know enough to understand the characters fears and hangups, but I didn't feel like I was reading a self-help book, and that can be a fine line. Also, the back stories aren't so terrible that I feel very distracted by them. I have a tender heart, even for fictional characters, and I find that romance novels with super heavy back stories take away from the escapism of the novel for me. - Miles is not your stereotypical romance novel MMC and I loved it. I'm here for it. I loved him. - The third act breakup is believable, true to the characters, but not so heartbreaking that you just can't fathom them getting back together There was very little that I didn't like, and honestly, it's not even worth mentioning because I still wholeheartedly recommend this book. I really hope this gets turned into a movie, because it would be so, so cute.

I'm mad at myself for not reading it earlier. Yet, I'm sad it is over!
Funny Story by Emily Henry 5 stars Spice: ๐ฅ๐ฅ/5 Iโm so mad at myself for not reading this earlier. Yet, Iโm sad it is over. Emily Henry knows how to make the reader love the book so much that I wish I could just re-read this book over for the first time to relive the magic. I felt deeply for the main character, Daphne. She is a people pleaser and did anything she could to make herself lovable to the people around her, despite what she liked or felt comfortable with. I saw myself in her, not regarding love, but in terms of friendships. There have been plenty of times I fit myself into a box as much as I could so I could maintain friendships throughout my life. I just wanted to be loved as a friend, as much as most people would, that I felt like Daphne a lot of the time. Iโve had to let go of friends in my life because I couldnโt keep giving myself to them without feeling like a priority in their life โ much like Daphne had to learn herself. Iโm still learning it myself, so I loved to read about her character. She was sassy, despite being awkward, and full of witty liners that I wish I came up with. Miles and Daphneโs circumstances were unique but full of banter, slow burn, sexual tension, and friendship. I craved to see Miles name on the page. Emily Henry knows how to make the reader want more and more. It was sweet and spicy. Slow and full of emotion. The back and forth created the perfect slow burn that I cannot get enough of. Their connection was palpable. The angst even more so. Miles, of course, was a great book boyfriend. Emily Henry knows how to write them so well. Of course, I loved to read about how books and reading shaped her. The love of the library. Any bookworm loves a good book themed read. Binged this book
I genuinely did not expect to love Funny Story as much as I did, but wowโthis book completely swept me away. I binge-read it in one sitting, and I regret nothing. At first glance, it seemed like it would be your typical rom-com, but it turned out to be a surprisingly heartbreakingly sweet story that hit me in the feels in all the right ways. Emily Henry has this incredible ability to write characters that feel so real, so raw, and so deeply human. The FMC, with her sharp wit and deeply rooted cynicism, resonated with me on a personal level. Sheโs messy and guarded and painfully relatable. And then thereโs MilesโMiles! The kind of cinnamon roll MMC who quietly steals your heart and makes you root for him from the very first page he appears on. Their chemistry is slow-burn perfection, and the way their relationship evolves feels honest and earned. I absolutely adored the second-chance romance aspect and the cozy, chaotic found family they build around themselves. It gave the story so much warmth and depth, balancing out the heartbreak with moments of joy, connection, and hope. Funny, tender, and full of emotional nuance, Funny Story isn't just another love storyโitโs the kind of book that lingers with you long after the last page. Five stars, hands down.

Okay.
This has an interesting premise that I felt was going somewhere but kind of quickly driveled off for me and became very predictable and boring. I would like to see a romance that's not all about the chase but what comes afterwards. I would like to read a romance that doesn't hinge on overcoming the invisible obstacles of a difficult childhood, which seems to be a universal problem. I would like to read a romance that doesn't fixate on the angst of how these invisible scars prevent people from accepting something good in their life when it's on offer becoming some weird psychology lesson. I would like to read a romance there the characters are older and more mature. I prefer to find things out through dialogue. We're having everything handed over to me with overly detailed monologues and internal revelations. I read it all in one sitting as I typically do. It's not awful, just not very worthwhile for the $15 I paid. More drama with the ex's would have been fun.. but it was kept to a minimum in my opinion. Petra and Peter are definitely creeps but I enjoyed hating them because you know the exact kind of people they represent. I wanted Miles to be more interesting; he became kind of soft. Oh well.

Sweet, hilarious romcom with depth and spice. Highly recommend!
I had to take a few days and gather my thoughts after reading this book. This was my 2nd Emily Henry book and I really loved it. From the very first chapter I was completely enthralled in her characters and storytelling. Being told solely from the FMC Daphneโs perspective made me feel like I was her and her struggles were so relatable to me. The insecurities she felt, and the difficulty she had feeling like she โfit inโ, her buttoned up persona that desired to be more spontaneous but found it hard to make that leap, her relationship troubles with her family and her โalmostโ in laws, and of course her love of libraries and books. The ache she felt for a place to belong and to feel wanted and chosen was so beautifully written and made it even more special to watch her โfound familyโ come together. Ok mushy deep feelings asideโฆ this book was so funny. The snarky internal monologue she had about the terrible situation she found herself in by no fault of her own was so perfect. And then thereโs Milesโฆ oh my goodness. This guy is her polar opposite and exactly what she didnโt know she needed. He SEES her in a way that no man ever has and the chemistry between them is so undeniable that it never felt like a rebound and you couldnโt help but cheer them on! Heโs the eternal optimist to her pessimistic self and the guy that can make a friend anytime anywhere without even trying while she is the girl that watches with awe from the sidelines. I absolutely love couples like this who are opposite but bring out the best in each other. The setting was perfect for a spring or summer read with the adorable small town full of sweet side characters. Scenes at the beach, library, wine bar, and farm stand. Delicious food and wineโฆIt made the story so cozy. This book was one that I did not want to put down. I laughed. I cried. I was smiling at the very last line which wrapped the whole book up so perfectly and brought everything full circle. I highlighted so much of this bookโฆ here are a few favorites: โFor someone with the innate social charm of a mounted fish (me), watching Miles befriend this stranger felt like seeing Michelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel: impressive, but also dizzying. Like any second, he might fall off his ladder and splatter on the marble below.โ โI remember loving a story. Feeling like I was living it. Being, even as a child, bowled over by how something imaginary could become real, could wring every emotion from me or make me homesick for places Iโd never been.โ โThings were allowed to be complicated. They were allowed to be messy. We were allowed to disagree and argue and even hurt each other, on occasion, and it didnโt mean it was time to let the revolving door of life carry us away from each other. Sometimes things are hard. They just are.โ ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. CW: F words, multiple open door scenes, recreational drug use

great book
While reading Funny Story, I kept thinking, โokayyy, this is a SLOW burn.โ ๐ But honestly, I think thatโs what made the story so meaningful. Itโs such a good reminder of how easy it is to lose little pieces of ourselves when weโre in a relationship something I think we can all relate to in some way. I really enjoyed watching the two main characters slowly find their way to each other and fall in love. ๐ค Their story was sweet, messy, and so easy to get invested in. And now Iโm just over here patiently waiting for this to become a movie because I NEED to see it on the big screen!

My favourite Emily Henry book so far!!
As an already exisiting fan girl of Emily Henry's, I can confidently say that Funny Story is my favourite book from her so far. Daphne & Mileโs story had me laughing, tearing up, and nodding along in recognition with her journeys and struggles the entire way. Never before have I resonated with a story on such a deep level. The main character's experiences mirrored my own in many ways, making it feel like I was reading about a close friend rather than a fictional character. Emily Henry has once again captured my heart with her captivating storytelling and relatable characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good laugh, a beautiful romance and a touching story of self-discovery!!

Heartwarming and perfect !
Happy place was my favorite romance book from last year so my expectations for Funny Story were high ! They were so high that I was scared of not liking this one. But, Emily Henry did it again ! At first, I had trouble liking Daphne. She was always complaining and playing the victim. Sure her ex was an idiot but girl, just punch him in the face and get your life back on track (ok, Iโm a bit heartless there). But, if Emily Henry is good at one thing itโs how she writes relationship. And Daphne and Milesโ was perfect. Nearly strangers to friends to lovers. The evolution was slow and so well done. It could have been a friendship story and it would still have been perfect. I was in love with Miles and his imperfections from the start. Come on, the guy wears Crocs and Emily makes you love him in a second ! If thatโs not great writing, I donโt know what it is ! The other thing I like about Emilyโs story is how the supporting characters are great and the found family trope is heartwarming and beautiful. As always for Emily Henry itโs a 5/5 read !

I finally picked up my first Emily Henry book, and I shouldโve done it way sooner. This was the sweetest thing! The setting and people gave me this nostalgia for a place Iโve never been. Every little moment, every outing, every cozy shared silence or interaction, touched my heart. The conversations and banter were just so amazing -- funny, real, wholesome. I adored the chemistry, not just between the main characters but with the entire cast. "๐ฐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐'๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐, ๐๐๐ ๐ฐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ." And Miles... Heโs impossible not to love. Charming, effortlessly funny, kind, selfless, adventurous, and just full of light. Like Daphne says, he is a beam of sunshine in the dark, blessing everyone around him. And what I appreciated most is how real both he and Daphne were. They were mature, layered, and beautifully human. "๐๐๐'๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐. ๐ฐ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐'๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐." โจ Daphne ends up moving in with her ex-fianceโs new fianceeโs ex-boyfriend (yes, itโs wild, and they know it). After getting left behind by their partners, Miles opens his home to her, and the story unfolds from there. โจ๏ธI was so curious to see how this kind of romance could be handled well, and the author did not dissapoint. Everything felt natural: the connection, the pull, the hesitation, the shared grief and slow healing. Nothing was rushed. Just two people finding comfort and something more, step by step.
