Has anyone tried baking this using egg substitute?

We substituted 1/4 applesauce per egg, and baked them as cupcakes. They came out beautifully, so moist and chocolatey, almost like a brownie. We don't usually use mixes but my mom recently visited for her birthday and she can't eat gluten, so we gave this mix a try. It made the best chocolate cupcakes I've ever had, with or without gluten. It's the next day, 9 in the morning and I've had three more. I can't believe how amazing this cake mix is.

Can I use butter instead of oil when making this cake?
