Tilled a 3x12 plot, dug out the clay, and replaced with potting soil 50%, sand 30%, and peat humus 20%. Planted on a Saturday morning. Rained several times during the week. All 10 plants were at least 6" high by the next Saturday. After two weeks, the whole patch is full of asparagus still coming up, and some that is already branching out to grab sun for next springs crop. Highly recommend. Update: 03/01/2018 - New spears growing and already 12" high. Per place of purchase, was advised I could begin cutting them, since this is the third year on two year roots. Was worried the monsoon last month with 10 inches of rain might have flooded them out, but they are growing greatl Update 4/2021 - Still growing and giving me LOTS of thumb thick spears for weeks. Going to expand the patch Review: Great purchase - These are by far the best looking roots I've ever bought. Roots are thick and straight, not tangled, and easy to plant. Clusters even already have a pretty healthy baby sprout well started. In the bottom right of the photo you can see a dried out scraggly root bought at a majorly known chain store for comparison.

Seller quickly repolaced the first shipment which has problems. The second shipment has sprouted very quickly and all 10 plants are very healthy! an update... I received 2 males.. and 8 females. sigh... they are growing lovely.. but what do I do with ferns.. I do not need seeds.. I ordered these as it said ... dominate males.. 8 female and 2 male... sigh.. don't think so.... while the first shipment only had 8 crowns that were moldy.. the second shipment which was quick with healthy crowns.. was female.. I am not sure if the seller understands the difference between healthy and moldy and male or female... sigh... but will not purchase fro this person again.. I have a small set space made for my asparagus.. I do not want female In there.. I want to eat asparagus now develop seeds.. sigh right now.. all I am doing is developing seed. so will pull up throw away and find a more knowledgeable seller...

Nice little plants
Bought these artichokes and asparagus for my spring plantings. I tore my old artichokes out because they weren't productive so hopefully these will be. I ordered 5 globes and 5 Imperial stars and the package that arrived a few days later had 6 globes and 12 Imperial stars. They were taped nicely into their small plastic containers and all were alive. I planted 3 of the plants in my garden and potted 7 more. They all survived the transplant and are growing nicely which is a sign there were healthy sprouts when they were shipped. So far so goo. I hate to throw the other plants aways but I ran out of pots. The asparagus was in a 1-gallon plastic bag and had about 10 root balls with mature 12-inch long roots. I just planted them so we'll see how they produce.

Awesomeness!
I received my triple order in great shape - soaked the crowns in warm water for at least an hour, as instructed, and got them into the trenches. While there were only a couple tips showing on the crowns when I planted them, within 3 days, there were delicate spears on all but 2 crowns. I'm very pleased with the crowns and can only hope I continue to pamper them correctly into a permanent bed for many years of enjoyment. The planting instructions were straightforward, plus I did a little extra research since I'd never made an asparagus bed before, so am very very pleased with the results. Now, on the 13th of August, there are 110 stalks of asparagus ferning. I would definitely recommend this product. Looking forward to next year! UPDATE: May 6, 2016 So far in spite of warm weather being slow in coming, I can already confirm that 20 crowns have survived the winter and have spears sprouting from them. Again, very pleased! The spears are nice sized ones in diameter, so looking forward to good eating!

So far so good!
I live in zone 8b in Oregon and ordered these with the idea that if I put them in the ground in summer, they will get established and hopefully I can harvest this coming spring. The roots arrived on time. I left the package on my kitchen counter for a few days and I'm not sure if it was that or the packing material they used (mix of sawdust/dirt?) that caused mold/fungus, but there was some mold/fungus stuff in the bag. But, the mold was not on the roots themselves, just around them in the packing material. The roots themselves were big and healthy looking. I planted them on July 23rd and more than half have already sent up spears/sprouts. (clearly the mold/fungus in the bag didn't impact them negatively) So far I'm very happy with how things are going, especially considering the price point for these. I'll try to remember to update this review in spring of 2017, but so far so good!

So far so good!!! I think :-)
This is a question more so than a review. Couldn't see a place to post a question. Hi. I ordered these 10 roots and got them in the ground on 4-18. I prepared a nice deep bed using miracle grow soil and they all are coming up! Question, most are only as thick as a toothpick and fern once they are only about 6 inches high. Is this normal? I knew I wouldn't start harvesting for a few years but are they supposed to be this skinny and fern so quickly?? Currently have about 15 skinny ones up!! Thank you. Looking forward to watching them grow :-) Gary
