Shortlisted for the BBC Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction 2009.Quantum theory is weird. As Niels Bohr said, if you weren't shocked by quantum theory, you didn't really understand it. For most people, quantum theory is a byword for mysterious, impenetrable science. And yet for many years it was equally baffling for scientists themselves. In this tour de force of science history, Manjit Kumar gives a dramatic and superbly-written account of this fundamental scientific revolution. But his centrepiece is the conflict between Einstein and Bohr over the nature of reality and the soul of science. A close look at the golden age of physics, the brilliant young minds at its centre-and how an idea ignited the greatest intellectual debate of the twentieth century.] Review: Quantum explained at its best - Trying to understand, as a non-physicist, the theories of twentieth century physics is a challenging task, even after high school have provided an introduction to the terms and concepts. This book is not only readable but enjoyable. Right from the first word till the end, the author explains the story of the beginning of quantum mechanics to the recent developments. It is written in a simple and layman language. The book beautifully describes the tale of the conflicts between the two great minds of those days; Einstein and Niels Bohr. Encapsulated into this book is the almost complete story of the development of quantum mechanics. I recommend this book to all science lovers. Superb book!!!!! Review: For those who knows a 11 or 12(Indian) standard quantum physics - Great , if you want to the journey of those quantum jiants and history of this part of physics skipping the mathmatics ( may be for leter ) go for this book.

The Memory Map and the best storyteller
This is hell of an epic in itself. After reading this book you'll have all the events, the theories, the concepts and periods in your mind like you've seen it in a movie. It's all so exiting. The journey is like witnessing the historic incidents in a time traveling visit.

Exceptional Read!
"Quantum" describes in both a human experience perspective and delves to a layman level description of the driving scientific discoveries that propelled the subjects toward historical achievements. Hooked on it as I continue to read.
