What does the scent on the original version smell like?

Doesn’t smell synthetic but doesn’t smell particularly great either. Not that is smells bad, it’s just a very unique smell. Could be entirely up to one’s opinion. It doesn’t have familiar scents though so it’s hard to describe

Great question Funky Fella! Cetyl Alcohol is a nourishing fatty alcohol which would fall under the 'good alcohols' category. Typically, fatty alcohols are used as emollients and thickeners in personal care products. Fatty alcohols are not irritating and, in fact, can be beneficial for dry hair and scalp. Some good fatty alcohols are cetyl, stearyl, and cetearyl alcohol.

The bad alcohols to look out for in personal care products are SD alcohol, ethanol, denatured, isopropyl, methanol or ethyl alcohol.
