Kimble 73660-16 KIM-KAP Natural Polypropylene Autoclavable Closure for 16mm Culture Tube (Case of 1000)

These are the OG: love these vented test tube caps. Solid, reliable product which is our go-to in the labs. Kimble's got these down: never any variation, milling/manufacturing errors, or defects. With budget crunches these days, these test tube caps also take well to being autoclaved, washed in soapy water, soaked in 10% bleach, rinsed, and re-used. #Winning. We'll continue to use the heck out of these.

Supply of both the caps that I normally use and the alternative that I sometimes resort to has become unreliable, so I gave these a try. My application is plant tissue culture in 25 x 150mm tubes. I'm happy to say that these are a good fit. My first choice is a short cap (30mm tall) with a very clear top. I like that style of cap because it admits more light and it is easier to see what is going on just under the cap when the plantlets get tall. My normal alternative is a less transparent, slightly taller (36mm), textured cap. Due to the texturing, it is more of a translucent than transparent cap and I don't prefer that. These Kim Kaps are an even larger cap at 38mm tall, with a slightly belled bottom. They are still a tight fit when fully seated and that have stops to ensure air exchange. The main problem with the belled bottom is that these make for a very tight fit in a 25mm wire tube rack. You have to use some force to get them all in, which is not ideal. The plastic is reasonably clear. These are also not great for use with 95mm tubes, as tall caps cover a lot more of the tube. For 150mm tubes, they are no problem.

Works well for the 25mm size culture tubes. Autoclaves well.
