SunJel Fume-free Firespace Gel Fuel Canister, Pure Gel, 24-Pack

These work great! It even has little chemicals dispersed through the gel that make it go "snap, crackle, pop" just like a real wood. The flame is bright and warm. I use 3 cans in my portable fireplace and it produces 4 hours of heat and a beautiful flame. There is an odd odor as the alcohol gel burns, but you get used to it so you don't notice it after a few times. The odor smells like "super clean" so it's not an offensive odor. If you've ever used an air purifier, it's kinda like that.

This is a wonderful substitute for having to expend money on turniing the heat on those cooler winter mornings here in Florida. Light them up in my fireplace and my place is toasty in about 20 minutes. They do not last as long as they say. 2 hours is the maximum I can get out of them. Still cheaper than FPL heat here in Florida.

Switched from Real Flame to SunJel. We have used Real Flame for a few months and I was not happy with the odor to the point of getting a headache. Opened the SunJel (loved no paper to peel off the cans) with a flat tip screw driver, found a little bit of an alcohol scent. The SunJel is more liquid than solid gel, which made shaking it up a lot easier. I took advise from a previous reviewer and let it sit about 15 minutes prior to lighting it. The odor disappeared within two to three minutes. After lighting, the flames appeared much brighter than the Real Flame flames with the same crackling sound a real fire would produce. I cannot say much about the heat, because our living room is very large. It has been burning steady now for well over two hours. I will absolutely purchase this product again. By the way, standard shipping was insanely fast. Happy with my purchase!

I have no complaints other than the fact that the sternos don’t fully burn all of the fluid. I’ve purchased other brands before and this is a common pattern so I can’t hold it against this brand specifically. You may have a moment where there’s a slight smell but then it goes away and doesn’t come back. I use 1 sterno at a time but usually put up to 3 in my fireplace. Even 1 can let’s off a nice amount of heat and these crackle and pop like a real fire. Burn time per can is about 2 hours, give or take. I’d buy again!

I contacted the Sunjel company myself, and I must say it was a very rewarding experience. What Amazon could not figure out, the customer service lady Kami and the president (Steve) of the company did. When I got off the phone I was very, very happy to know that the president of Sunjel cared enough (out of his busy schedule) to take the time to contact. I have been using other gel fuel and was very dissatisfied. Sunjel fuel is GREAT, NO FURM, NO ORDORS just a wonderful experience and of cause the best price on the internet. I would from my experience advise any an everyone to buy this brand. You will not be sorry plus you will save a tremendous amount of money over the months of usage. Previous today I am retracting my message because I did not get the assistance that I should have receive when I called an spoke with a rep. at amazon. I guest this is what happens when you hire during the holiday season, people who really do not care about the customers. When I got off the phone with Amazon I could have chew a box of nails. Again, my experience with Sunjel after calling them was extraordinary! Thank you Steve you now have a customer for life!

UPDATE NO 2: I tried this gel again, and it is now clear (so no orange spatter!), which is great, BUT the cans are only filled 2/3 of the way now (they used to be full), and therefor only last 2 hours instead of 3. Disappointing. UPDATE NO 1: I originally gave this 5 stars, but would downgrade to 3, because the gel splatters on the back of the fireplace and leaves an orange speckled pattern. It comes off easy enough with a paper towel and water, but it’s annoying enough that I’ll switch back to my old brand (with the dreaded labels that need to be removed) ——- original review below —— I’ve tried a couple of different brands of gel fuel. This one is my favorite for a few reasons: 1. There is no label on the can. It sounds like a minor detail, but other brands have a label you must remove before using, and it’s annoying. 2. There is no smell. Other brands I’ve tried have a faint chemical smell. 3. There is a nice crackling noise that makes you feel like wood is burning, and the flame is strong.

Pretty good product for the money. Doesn't last as long as the label claims. Sounds like a real cracklin fire and does heat up a small room. Kinda messy though when opening a new can, but at least it doesn't rev up your electricity bill. Good for only very small rooms and mostly for decoration only.

UPDATE OCTOBER 16, 2018: I bought two cases and am I DISAPPOINTED! DO NOT BUY! BUYER BEWARE. Don't know what to say save your money. I have used Sun-jel for over 2-3 years now. I received these new two cases and the cans now say terra flame. Ok I thought new name same product! WRONG. The gel is NOT the same. It has a slight odor and DOES NOT burn as well. The old stuff burned all the way to the end of can. This stuff leave 1/4 can full of fuel but can't hold a burn. MAJOR WASTE. Now I have to find new stuff and pay twice as much....BAD JOB SunJel!!! Well we just burned our first can and the other reviews were spot on. There is no odor and it burns until it is completely gone. There was some crackling but not annoying amount. It did its job by taking the chill out of the area. We usually buy Jensen's Real Flame Fuel, we have for years; however, after only two cans we returned the case. The odor was horrible and we could not tolerate it. Real Flame also doesn't completely burn, it leaves 1/8 to 1/3 of a can. What a scam. Stick with this brand and you will be happy. Remember to shake gently and opened carefully...love it!
