Great axe good value for money
Roughneck Axe Review The Roughneck Axe is a solid choice for anyone needing a reliable, heavy-duty tool for chopping, splitting, or general outdoor work. I recently put this axe through its paces during a weekend of firewood prep and clearing some small trees, and it performed admirably for its price point. Design and Build Quality (4/5): The Roughneck Axe features a forged steel head that feels sturdy and holds an edge well, even after repeated use on hardwood. The head’s weight (available in various sizes, typically 3-6 lbs) provides good momentum for splitting, though it might feel heavy for smaller users or prolonged tasks. The fiberglass handle is a standout—lightweight, shock-absorbent, and weather-resistant, with a comfortable, non-slip grip that reduces hand fatigue. My only gripe is that the handle’s connection to the head could feel slightly less secure under heavy swinging; a metal-reinforced collar would add confidence. Performance (4.5/5): This axe bites deep into wood with minimal effort, thanks to its sharp, well-angled blade. It excels at splitting logs up to 12 inches in diameter, and the balance makes it versatile for both chopping and finer tasks like kindling prep. I noticed it holds its edge better than some budget competitors, though it’s not on par with premium brands like Gransfors Bruk. After a few hours of use, I had to touch up the edge, but that’s expected for heavy work. Durability (4/5): The Roughneck Axe feels built to last, with the fiberglass handle shrugging off impacts and wet conditions. The head shows minimal chipping or rolling after moderate use, but I’d recommend occasional sharpening and proper storage to avoid rust in humid environments. It’s not indestructible—abusing it on knots or metal could damage the edge—but it’s tough for the price. Value for Money (5/the Roughneck Axe. It’s not a high-end heirloom tool, but it’s a workhorse that outperforms many in its class. For casual campers, homesteaders, or anyone needing a dependable axe without breaking the bank, it’s a no-brainer. Pros: - Affordable and widely available - Sharp, effective blade for splitting and chopping - Comfortable, durable fiberglass handle - Good balance for versatile use Cons: - Head-to-handle connection could be sturdier - Requires occasional sharpening for heavy use - Not as refined as premium axes Overall (4.3/5): The Roughneck Axe is a reliable, budget-friendly tool that punches above its weight. It’s ideal for homeowners, campers, or anyone tackling occasional woodwork. While it lacks the finesse of pricier axes, its performance and durability make it a great value for most users. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a solid axe without spending a fortune. Note: Always wear proper safety gear and follow axe-handling guidelines to avoid injury.

ROUGHNECK ROU65678
This is a great piece of kit and very good value for the money. It is lightweight and cuts straight through wood effectively. It is light enough to carry on short walks. The handle provides great sturdiness; despite being a beginner who has missed the target and clipped the handle and metal a few times, there has been no damage that affects its chopping ability. I would say it's super easy to use and comes nice and sharp. The axe also includes a protective cover that can be attached to gear. I didn't use the attachment feature myself, but it's handy for keeping the sharp edge safe and preventing snags.

Top quality wood splitter.

Decent for small to medium logs/rounds
Decent cheap splitting axe. Does the job well enough. There's obviously not much weight in it, so it'd struggle with any big rounds, but it's good for splitting small logs. With some TLC, it should last a good long while.

Good wood splitter
I have been using this for 3 years now and have not had any issues. The handle is sturdy and the axe head is a very good fit. The weight is good and the results cant be argued with! The head has kept its sharp edge and hasnt needed to be sharpened yet. Good value for money and length of service.

Absolutely brilliant for the price
Let me start by saying that I restore axes and log splitters for a hobby I wanted something light because as a large bloke I like my axes heavy. This isn't heavy but is yet more than capable! It's got a lovely handle, rub some oil and it's set to go. The axes head looks fairly robust. It's not easy to jam and when it does it comes off easy because its small and light. I've done Holly tree trunks half a meter in diameter and half a meter in height. For most logs this is more than enough and easier to use than larger ones. The only thing I can't comment on is longevity but it doesn't look like it will fall apart any time soon.

Works a treat
I've now used this splitting maul to split a load of ash and oak, and it's worked perfectly. I find it very comfortable to hold and use. It's not too heavy and the handle is shaped well. It split the green ash and oak effortlessly, even going through knots without any problem. Just be aware this is a splitting maul, not a sharp axe for felling. At just over £35 I think this is worth every penny. I hope you find my review helpful.

Great quality
Great quality axe, feels amazing in the hand and very good weight. Not super sharp but it doesn’t need to be for log splitting. Handle is lovely wood and it performs well in splitting logs - good value for money. Not super versatile as you couldn’t use it for chopping a tree but that is not it’s purpose! Just bear in mind that generally hard wood gets harder to chop as it dries out and soft wood gets easier so it might be a bit of a workout to split kiln dried/seasoned hard wood.
