“ Korean Home Cooking is a revelation. It is an education in Korean cuisine and a roadmap for bringing it into your kitchen, with recipes that are as smart and delicious as they are achievable. Herein is a body of knowledge that needed a generous cook like Sohui to shape and share it, and it deserves a spot on every serious cook’s bookshelf.” —Peter Meehan, author, founder of Lucky Peach Sohui Kim is the Brooklyn-based owner and chef of three successful and popular restaurants: The Good Fork, Gage & Tollner, and Insa, a restaurant dedicated to the Korean food she grew up with. In Korean Home Cooking , she shares the authentic Korean flavors found in the dishes at Insa and her favorite family recipes. Kim is well-regarded for her classic recipes, popular restaurants, and the ease and agility she has with making her food taste delicious. With 100 recipes, her book Korean Home Cooking is a comprehensive look at Korean cuisine, and includes recipes for: Kimchee Crisp mung bean pancakes Seaweed soup Spicy chicken stew Japchae noodles Soondae (blood sausage) Yuk hwe (beef tartare) And dozens more Kim writes in her introduction, “The greatest compliment I have received about my cooking was from my mom and aunt, who told me right before I opened the restaurant that I have good sohn mat . A Korean cook’s talent is measured in her sohn mat: The literal translation is ‘taste of the hand.’ Someone who has a good sohn mat has a deft hand with seasonings, yes, but is also someone who was born with a passion for food. . . . I want to introduce you to the seasonal, the homemade, the sewed and the pickled, the real Korean way of cooking, all made with as much sohn mat as I can muster.” With Sohui Kim’s guidance, stories from her family, and photographs of her travels in Korea, Korean Home Cooking —written with James Beard Award–winning journalist Rachel Wharton—brings rich cultural traditions into your home kitchen. “If you’re looking to further develop your sohn mat , or ‘taste of the hand,’ this book is a must-have.” ― Saveur Review: Fabulous Korean Home-Cooking - I am not Korean and have now made several recipes from this book, banchan, soups, braised ribs (the baby back ribs are to die for), and juk. Every single one has been a hit with my family, and though a few were more involved, none were terribly hard to make. There is an explanation of all the ingredients, pictures, and recipe procedures are very clear. Our family has really gotten into banchan, so I can make fresh small batches as needed just by reducing the recipes. You can also adjust the recipes to your family's tastes, such as I will reduce the sugar and/or salt in most recipes (not just in this cookbook), and it doesn't affect the end result. I have yet to try making the kimbap - those sushi-like rolls - because I haven't gotten around to buying a bamboo mat to make the rolls, but I'm looking forward to making them soon for summer picnics. This has been my go-to cookbook all winter into the spring. And I have to say, my end results look pretty similar to the pictures, which says a lot for the cookbook! Review: A rare find! - This is one of the best Korean cookbooks I’ve ever read. Recipes are delicious and traditional.

Authentic and delicious recipes
We've made 4 or 5 recipes from this book so far, and have been impressed with every one. Each recipe has bold and authentic flavors. We made beef bulgogi, bean sprout salad, seaweed soup, and more, and each one has been simple to follow and comes with clear directions. There is a comprehensive korean BBQ section which we are excited to try!

Best Korean cookbook I own
Recipes in this book taste so much better than the other popular Korean cookbook (you know which one I'm talking about). Each recipe comes with gorgeous, high quality pictures. The only downside is they don't include the average time to cook a dish at the beginning of the recipe.

Delicious and easy authentic Korean recipes!
I believe this book is one of the best Korean cookbooks in the market. The recipes I tried did taste authentic and delicious! It has pictures of the necessary special Korean ingredients you will need, some pictures of “how to”, but the most important thing for me was the easy reading and clear instructions that led to 100% success!

No easy glance of prep to finish time.
The book looks amazing. I’m just a little annoyed that the outside of the book especially the upper corner and bottom side edge is beat up. The inside is completely new though. Anyhow, everything looks doable and delicious in the book. Can’t wait to try! The only thing is I wish there was a place that tells you the prep time, time it takes to marinate, and the finish time. You have to scan through instructions to get the information.. So, a few of these dishes actually take overnight and up to 3 days to be ready.. Recipes: Gochujang baby back ribs: spectacular. So so good. I did opt out of the Korean dry red peppers (forgot what it’s called) since my kids can’t eat spicy. Also, I grated 1 tbsp of frozen ginger instead of the chopped ginger or whatever the recipe said..

Tolles Buch
Das Buch ist ein echtes Schmuckstück, reich bebildert und mit einer Menge Rezepte, die auch für den Hobbykoch gut nachzukochen sind. Haben schon Einiges ausprobiert und mit dem Ergebnis stets zufrieden.

Formal cook book
Among the many Korean cook books I had purchased from Amazon, this book did not align with what I was looking for. Each dish is accompanied by illustration which is good but a bit “too formal” for my preference in style and writing.

Korean cooking for beginners
A book definitely for beginners. As I do have experience in cooking Korean dishes, this book did not meet my expectations. However I did find the book, well presented, easy to read and lots of pictures alongside recipes.
