Great phone, and you should know...
Before I write my review, I'd like to list a couple things about the phone which aren't included in the Amazon description: 1. This is a dual SIM device with one nano SIM and one micro SIM slot. HOWEVER, if you wish to use a micro SD card, it will occupy the nano SIM slot, leaving only the micro SIM slot. 2. There's more stuff in the box than the description says! Inside the box there is: > A charging/sync cable and wall adapter > A set of earbuds > A plastic screen protector (pre-installed) > A glass screen protector (not installed) > A quick-start guide > Two thin, plastic phone cases (one clear and one with some abstract art on the back - I included a picture of the case with this review) Now, as far as the actual review goes; this is a very nice phone for the price! I'm a long-time fan of Blu. I prefer mid-range unlocked vanilla android phones that aren't too expensive to replace -> And that's exactly what this is. The screen is amazing! I came from a 1080p phone, and I was expecting this elongated 720p screen to look noticably worse. It really doesn't! It's crisp, clear, and the small bezels are quite nice. If you don't like the way the display wraps around the front camera, you can enable a gesture in the settings to disable that. But I've found that I quite like it. The camera is good, and it even includes facemoji! The battery is excellent. The lowish resolution screen and low-power processor probably help this. I've had no problem using it all day. However, the phone doesn't feel sluggish at all! In fact, it scored right at 8,000 on the 3D Mark "Slingshot (non-extreme)" benchmark. The phone runs pretty much stock Android 8.1. The only changes I've noticed are a "clear apps" button on the recent apps screen and a new battery saving mode called "extreme" something-or-other. I haven't tried it. All-in-all, I'd say this is an excellent phone, especially if you can get it on sale for $100 like I did. I've only had it for 2 days, though, so I'll be sure to come back and change the review if I run into any major problems.

45 day break in EDIT : Listen .. if you're a parent , senior, smart teenager, this phone is great.
So far, I have gone through four generations of Blu phones. Two of them being the studio and two of them being the Vivo. Out of all the budget smartphones I have ever owned, this one surpasses my expectations by far. Although I have only had it for two weeks, the operating system is very stable. The 3gigs of onboard memory seem to have no problem switching between applications, I have no lag or freezing. The operating system itself is robust. The phone itself is made of quality materials, and the notch display - although a little bit gimmicky, is very effective after time. In the world of cases, you will be disappointed that the aftermarket appears to have not one single case available for this phone as of the 1st of January 2019. (Edit, see below).however, the phone does come with one clear silicone case, and one that has abstract art on it. So what I have done is left the phone in its silicone case and it looks wonderful. for only $150 this phone is absolutely fantastic and for the average to above-average user - they will find incredible value for this. If you want to make an amazing gift to your parents or grandparents and bring them into the smartphone community, this is a wonderful way to begin at all. The ease of the operating system, the speed of the processor, and the build quality of this phone are all very nice.... Now as for the the sound quality - coming from the twin rear speakers: it is above-average. Not fantastic, but totally acceptable. The speakers are rear firing, and facing out from the back they create pretty decent sound. I cannot speak on the fingerprint reader as I find any security on my phone obtrusive. The pictures that the camera produces are on par with any average smartphone. Totally usable and totally acceptable by sharing and showing standards. It is almost unbelievable that you get this much phone for the money. I will update this at the 2-month mark, as that is when the phone really shows its bones.... But thus far I can only give it my highest ratings and congratulate Blu. Micro USB.. no problem. The standard today is USB-c but transmission and data rates are still fine. And lucky you! you probably have a lot of micro USB cables laying around the house 🙂 I mean what the heck do you expect for a unlocked smartphone less than 150.00?? With specs close to an Iphone, it blows my mind people spend more. And I read a review about the operating system. In my opinion, it is modern, fully functional and will be relevant for at least two years. If you make it to the two year mark with this phone, then truly you will know what quality and value can be, thanks to Blu. In all my years as a tech guy even in the army, this device is worth every penny and I stand by my review 100% I do not work for Blu , I do not get paid or compensated for anything. I write this as a thank you to them for saving me and my elderly mother money and allowing us to have nice phones we can enjoy and afford. (I have now purchased 3 of these.) For one new iPhone you could get 7 of these for your friends and family that would love to have them, if they weren't jaded children anticipating something 500+$ This phone is the KING of the budget smartphones oh, and if you are ever in a jam and needed an unlocked phone immediately, you could just keep this one on deck and be good to go for a very long time. Oh did I mention that the battery lasts all day long and then some, and I'm a super user 😋😋😋. again, I will edit the review at the 2-month Mark but so far I give this phone a solid A. Edit : so it's been about 45 days with the phone. And I continue to only praise it. I keep reading the highest rated comment about blu not upgrading their operating system. As I said in my review before, who really cares about that? This operating system will be totally usable for at least 3 2 years. I've also read comments that say that the hardware messes up the experience. Okay whoever you are out there.. what in the heck are you expecting for $150. I'm 40 years old, middle class, I use the phone more than a regular person.. and I say once again I recommend this phone absolutely. If you don't like it, you can return it as well, what do you have to lose?? Also as of the last week you can buy an extremely nice case to fit this phone. It was just released about a week ago and I compare it to a Spigen... It has a nice internal bumper as well as a solid rubber shell . It is the case that you want and it's only 14 bucks. Tudia case for vivo xl4, they sell it on Amazon right now. So, get the phone, and get a black case.. you spent $180 and you have a fantastic piece of technology. Don't believe the other headlines, especially the one about Wi-Fi. That is definitely not a phone issue. The phone cannot connect to your home internet because it's not on the same radio band. That is a very easy fix done through your Wi-Fi router settings. Not everyone is going to have a great experience - but I would say for the most part these phones perform excellent. After 45 days I still grade this phone A.

Worth The HEADACE
Okay honest Opinion and FACTS !!!!!. Phone came on time I paid for next day ship... Phone feels nice in hand , I was impressed but all the extras that came in the box!!!!! FYI...Don't buy a case for this phone no case on the market is better than the one it comes with .. TRUST ME ... Phone came fully charged and ready for activation .. Upon activation my pone would NOT connect to WiFi ... I read some comments below on how to fix this And IT WORKED... I think the shipper should include these instructions because according to all the comments this is all too normal... Lastly IT WAS A NIGHTMARE to activate the cellular data.. Number one the sim card I had was too small. Thank God my son had a sim card adapter so it was able to fit ( you can buy one as well, ) The phone I had used previously used a sim card without the sleeve .. 2nd the phone has 2 IMEI numbers so make sure your phone company is aware of this .. I called my carrier ( metro ) twice .. nothing worked .. I went to the Store and a very knowledgeable person helped me .. He knew actually what to do.. But after all the DRAMA.. I loooovvvve this phone... I have paid hundreds for a phone this by far is the best Phone EVER ... I cant even tell you how Bomb the Camera is ... It was definitely worth hours of Drama.... . What a Steal .. Oh and the Battery life Is amazing.. I've only had it for 2 DAYS so I know there is more to discover .. Don't pass this DEAL UP .. FYI .. Best Buy is selling the BLU XL for 235.00 vs.. Amazon Blu XL4 FOR 145(ish).. I mean that alone should convince you.. Sweet deal !!!!!!

great phone
I ordered this because my "flag ship" phone that I paid over 900 dollars for 2 years ago with android 6.0 started to flake out from in my opinion to many over the air updates 7.0 to recently 8.0... Rather than renew my contract I decided to try one of these cheap replacements. This phone out of the box runs 8.1 much better than my old one running 8.0 and the screen looks way better. and bigger! I was able to sync it to my Samsung watch no problems. Everything about this phone is great but I would like to pass along something I have noticed in my daily usage so far when it comes to unlocking and using the device. I ended up setting the lock screen to use face unlock, pattern, and the finger print reader. Let me start by saying I keep the phone in my front shirt pocket most of the time at work so I rarely press the finger print reader to unlock. That being said here is how I have been using it. When take it out I press the power button and look at it, 99 percent of the time it instantly unlocks. I'm not worried about someone steeling this low cost device and somehow spoofing my face so i'm fine with this however, If face unlock fails I press the finger print reader and that seems to work about 75 percent of the time usually if it fails after 2 or 3 presses I end up using pattern to unlock so I don't get that timed lockout. Now I haven't tried to exclusively use the fingerprint reader cause its awkward taking out of your chest pocket in that orientation but I have noticed that it does seem to always unlock with the fingerprint reader if that is the first unlock method you use. other than that I have to say the battery life is Incredible and the speakers may not be as loud as more expensive phones they do sound great not tin canish like I expected. the cameras both take great pictures. In the past I have tried to save money buying cheap replacement phones from mane brand companies that have really bad cameras and speakers but this phone here blows them all away I will be upgrading my wife's to this one soon.

Good value for low to mid range
I purchased this phone a little over a week ago and used it as my primary phone for a few days to test it out. Overall I give the phone a three out of five. For clarity, my previous primary cell was the iPhone 7 plus, which I decided to change simply because I was a bit bored with it and did not feel like spending $1000 to try out a new model Iphone. Phone itself looks and feels like a decent quality, the housing seems sturdy and I did not notice any issues with the build. Aesthetically, meh. I got the black and it was just a bit plain. Plus as some others have mentioned, the paint job on the cover is an absolute magnet for grease, oil, and fingerprints. Not a big deal for me as I always use a case anyway. The display was wonderful, beautiful bright color quality which was impressive. However, in sunlight it is terrible, even on the highest brightness outside it is barely usable. Definitely a deal breaker for me. Even so, I was impressed with the quality of the new display, barring that issue. What broke me was the general performance of the phone. Scrolling was laggy and stuttered, clicks didn't register sometimes for several seconds, just slow in general. I expected some adjustment coming from the smooth performance of Iphone, but for me it was more than I could deal with. The fingerprint scanner and face ID also did not perform well for me, which was surprising because the fingerprint scanner worked so well for me when I previously used the Blu Vivo XR. Two to three clicks always on this phone before it would register and unlock. face id open was a bit laughable, it never worked without two to three tries. Battery life was good, really about the same as my iphone. I did notice the phone lagged considerably more when the battery was low. I think the processor in this thing is significantly underpowered as well, which is the main cause of the issues of lag and general slowness. Camera, well its ok. I was pretty unimpressed with the front camera picture quality, didn't really use the back camera except for video. I was impressed with the video quality much more than the picture quality to be honest, very clear and crisp video, but so much static on the pictures, especially in low light. All in all, it just didn't do it for me. I am sending it back and have already upgraded to the Blu Vivo XI+ model, Blu's more expensive flagship device. For the money, you can't beat this phone. If you need a cheap phone with updated functions, this might be a good one for you. Yes it is a bit underpowered but it still functions well and has a lot of higher end goodies packed in an incredibly affordable price point. I paid $127 on Amazon Warehouse and got a pristine device and all accessories. It was just an adjustment for me personally coming from Iphone. If you can afford to spend a bit more, I definitely recommend upgrading to the XI+ instead. It is my primary now and the quality and power of the device has blown me away so far.

Perfect. Absolutely beautiful phone.
Perfect. Absolutely beautiful phone. Edit: 05/06/19 Update I think I originally bought this back in January. It was a solid phone for five months. On a day-to-day basis, I use a Samsung S8 for IT work and this Blu Vivo XL4 for personal use. There were considerable performance differences but as far as how it looked and held up against time, I really think this phone was a phenomenal deal. I would recommend it for anyone that isn't in IT or development or needs a high-performance phone for x, y, and z reasons. This will easily handle social media, netflix, internet browsing, email, etc just fine. It would be a very good phone for the intermediate user. Trust me, unless you are using your phone as a work device on a regular basis, this is an exceptionally valued phone. * Screen is impeccable, absolutely love it. * Intuitive design, everything - power buttons and the like - is where it's supposed to be (according to me, lol). * I had a tempered glass screen protector but it was funky so I removed it and there have been no scratches or cracks on the screen for several months until I dropped it two stories down. It hit every concrete step and then flew a whole story off the apartment stairs. I mean, nothing would have survived that. Not even me. So it was a champ for a very long time. * Great battery life. * Wasn't USB-C but it was a fast charge with the right adapter and cable. * Storage was not enough for me towards the end, but I ended up downloading a lot of stuff inadvertently for work or other productive reasons (microsoft apps and the like) but also for things like Audible and email to voicemail downloads, etc. * RAM was not enough for me towards the end. I ended up doing a factory data reset just to be sure and as it turns out, I needed a higher spec phone for the things I wanted and needed to do. This is a great phone. I made my brother jealous and he bought an iPhone X at around the same time that I bought this because the screen was pretty amazing and he paid 9-10x as much for his phone (ouch, brother, ouch). Again, this isn't going to handle an intensive load very well. It operates under 1.5GB of RAM just for regular OS apps and services, so you're really only working with 1.5GB of free RAM. Honestly, that's enough to do what most people want to do. You don't need a flagship phone anymore to watch youtube or get on social media. We need to move away from that trend. Buy only what you need and the flagship phone manufacturers will start coming down in price - as they should anyways since technology improves over time. A huge heartbreaker for me was, towards the end, messages and calls weren't being received as often as they probably should have been but my Galaxy would get them with no problem. I would later get them if I sent a text out or made a phone call. The bluetooth stopped working with some but not all of my devices. Not sure what was going on there but I didn't investigate too much. I paid $129 for crying out loud. That's a steal compared to the "more than my rent or mortgage payment" cost of a flagship phone these days. Overall, I'd recommend it to intermediate users or those who lost a phone and need something in the interim until they have enough money to buy a flagship.

please read updated review
Edited 12/15/19 Very unhappy with this phone. The software support is terrible. I wasn’t expecting android updates but literally the software itself is a mess. 1 -2 months after buying this phone. it had a tremendous slow down and every action from typing, taking photos, loading apps, even playing videos had an immense amount of lag. I thought I downloaded an app that caused this since it all slowed down so quickly without warning, so I factory reset the phone and slowly one by one started downloading only the more popular apps like YouTube, Facebook, etc. and would wait a week before downloading a new app. That way I could tell if it was a specific app that caused the phone to slow down - the apps had nothing to do with it. One month after resetting the phone I had the same massive slowdown like clockwork. Like i said in my original review, if you’re one to not care about specs, this phone is perfect for you. But on that same token, if you’re one to not care about specs, chances are it will annoy you to have to factory reset the phone to have it be even manageable in terms of any kind of performance. It would accidentally call people and it would literally take 1-2 minutes to be able to hang up the call or stop incorrect navigation for directions. Imagine these kind of issues if you’re in an emergency situation and need to make a call. Yikes. I switched back to an iPhone ($60 used) and literally have no issues with a 4 year old phone. The software is optimized for the device and isn’t a ridiculous mess. Everytime I switch back to an android I always think “maybe they got it this time“, and shortly after within a year I’m normally disappointed. To me, android seems to be great for the very gimmicky features, but when it comes to actual usability and longevity, it’s still many years behind iPhones optimization and simple software. If you are somebody that needs to tweak everything and have customization available, then android could be great for you, but if you really don’t care about what a phone says about you or gimmicky features, just got an iPhone. ********** Original review shortly after buying the phone: Mostly happy with this phone. For starters, this is a TREMENDOUS value. Phenomenal screen, decent camera, and snappy enough performance. If you're someone that doesn't really care about specs, this will most likely blow you away. If you care at all about specs, I'm sure you'll enjoy this phone too but just know that this is a budget smartphone at the end of the day. I'm extremely unhappy about the wifi not working and no support from the company even though they said they've been working on a fix. Be aware and do your research, like I said, great phone but just know what you're getting yourself into.

Best phone I've bought!
Let me preface this by first saying I was extremely skeptical of buying what was, to me, a previously unheard of tech brand! I typically stick to phones that are more mainstream and carried through whatever service carrier I'm currently with. This phone has completely changed my perspective on that! I had originally ordered a certified refurbished S7 off of Amazon, but after that phone did not end up working properly, I decided to take a chance and order this phone after I returned the defective S7. I have had this phone not quite a full week and have only had to charge it three times, and I'm a person who does a LOT on their phone. The speed is easily on par with the S7 as well as actually faster than my old ZTE. It's easy to use and, for me, the absolute perfect size. Screen quality is amazing, especially when you consider the fact that this is a very affordably priced phone. The ONLY thing I am not 100% happy with is the camera, and even that is still about 98% satisfaction. In bright lighting it takes AMAZING pictures. Low light isn't fantastic, but dabbling around with the different models and settings can get a passable low light picture. (I came from a Galaxy S7, so I might just be nitpicking and unfairly comparing this phone to a phone that costs several hundred more.) The call quality is also a pleasant surprise! Knocks my old ZTE out of the park, and while I only received one phone call on the S7 (it did not consistently receive phone calls, which is why I returned it) it seems pretty comparable to the call quality of that. The fingerprint scanner isn't super quick to respond, but it works every time without fail, which is more than I can say for my ZTE. I LOVE this phone. I have it on MetroPCS and the service is fantastic, especially considering I live in a remote area. I have not experienced any issues with WiFi connectivity, as others have mentioned. I will say that I did need to get a sim size adapter to get it up and running on MetroPCS, but that isn't really a problem so much as a heads up if you experience activation problems, and haven't tried a sim adapter. I can't recommend this phone enough! Considering the price (I purchased at 139.99) it is an extremely impressive piece of technology. It easily can hold its own with significantly more expensive phones. If you need a new phone, don't waste hundreds and hundreds of dollars! Just grab one of these because I can safely say it's very unlikely you will regret it.
