I purchased size 39 which corresponds to the U.S. 8 - 8 1/2. When putting on the Birks for the first time, it is important to make sure to undo the straps, place your heel in the heel bed, and then tighten the straps accordingly. I found that if I tightened the straps it didn't allow my foot to slide around as much. At first I had them looser and I think that is what really ended up causing the blisters in between my toes.

but they are by far the most comfortable shoes I own
They might not be the most fashionable, but they are by far the most comfortable shoes I own. The toe post takes a little breaking in, but I've stopped wearing all my other summer footwear because these just feel so good. They are especially great if you have any foot pain/problems, and you want a footbed that allows your foot splay correctly.

Little Large For True Size 8. 39 Ordered
I ordered a size 39 which I have had in other brands. I'm a true size 8 with medium width foot and these were to loose on my foot. Great Birkenstock quality as usual. Just watch your size. Returned and bought another pair size 38 locally. Needed on vacation.

If you've never bought a pair of these before, I strongly recommend getting fitted at a brick & mortar store before purchasing. I've owned Birkinstocks for over 20 years & their size numbers are European & can be a bit confusing to buy online sight unseen/tried on. This pair fit like the rest of the pairs I own, absolutely LOVE them!

Faulty products
A month after buying these the cork foot bed is broken down. I’ve owned 3 pairs of these and never had the footbed bear out so soon for at least a year or more.
